The Meaning of the Name of Allah Al-Musa'ir - (7/1/2018)

In Surah Aal-Imran [3:26-27]:

"Say (O Muhammad): "O Allah! Possessor of the kingdom, You give the kingdom to whom You will, and You take the kingdom from whom You will, and You endue with honour whom You will, and You humiliate whom You will. In Your Hand is the good. Verily, You are Able to do all things."

"You make the night to enter into the day, and You make the day to enter into the night (i.e. increase and decrease in the hours of the night and the day during winter and summer), You bring the living out of the dead, and You bring the dead out of the living. And You give wealth and sustenance to whom You will, without limit (measure or account)."

The theme of Surah Aal-Imran is about firmness in the Religion. There are so many chances of slipping in this life in decrees and situations, which is why we should not separate Religion from our life. How you face the decree shows your
level of faith.

The happiest people in life are the believers, because they understand everything in this life is not at random; they do not  associate the tests with the actions of the people. It is important to upgrade our thinking. Allah said in Surah Ar-Ra'd [13:11]:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ
"...Verily! Allah will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves (by committing sins and by being ungrateful and disobedient to Allah)..."

We need to change in order for everything else to be changed. And this change is faith; belief in Allah - that nothing in this world happens without a reason. It is Allah and Allah is testing you. You cannot achieve happiness without knowing who Allah is.

"قل اللهم مالك الملك" - 'Say (O Muhammad): "O Allah! Possessor of the kingdom"'
Allah is the Owner of the Dominion. He owns everything whether it is a single leaf or a big house or people. This entire world belongs to Allah. Everything is Allah's property and He is controlling everything.

Sometimes Allah shows you that you cannot control your own house or your own children. This is to teach you that Allah is مالك الملك.

"تؤتي الملك من تشاء و تنزع الملك ممن تشاء" - "You give the kingdom to whom You will, and You take the kingdom from whom You will"

"و تعز من تشاء و تذل من تشاء" - "and You endue with honour whom You will, and You humiliate whom You will."

All of Allah's actions are all good - the ups and the downs.  Allah gives the dominion to whomever He wills, based on His knowledge and wisdom. And in one day or one night you can see a change of positions.

"بيدك الخير" - "In Your Hand is the good."
Whether Allah takes or gives or honours or humiliates, all goodness is in Hands.

"إنك على كل شيء قدير" - "Verily, You are Able to do all things."
Allah is able to do all that.

When you see these ups and downs, what do you need to think? "بيدك الخير إنك على كل شيء قدير" - "In Your Hand is the good. Verily, You are Able to do all things."

Then Allah mentions something in the universe which no one can do:

"تولج الليل في النهار وتولج النهار في الليل" - "You make the night to enter into the day, and You make the day to enter into the night"

This is how Allah made life. You don't have all day all long nor do you have all night all long. Your life can be day and night.
We need good and bad in our life for our nurturing.

"و تخرج الحي من الميت و تخرج الميت من الحي" - "You bring the living out of the dead, and You bring the dead out of the living."

No one can do these actions, so we see that Allah is doing it. But we fail in the first actions because we do not see beyond the actions of people. We do not realize that Allah is مالك الملك (Malik Al-Mulk; The Owner of the Dominion)

"و ترزق من تشاء بغير حساب" - "And You give wealth and sustenance to whom You will, without limit (measure or account)."

Prices became excessive during the time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), so they said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Set prices for us!'
 So he said:
"Indeed Allah is Al-Musa'ir, Al-Qabid, Al-Basir, Ar-Razzaq."
[At-Tirmithi]

The Prophet ﷺ's solutions are the best solutions and are valid for all times. He could have easily change the prices, but he wanted to teach them. They wanted a change, and he wanted them to change, by knowing who Allah is.

Some Scholars say that it is not a name of Allah but an attribute.

Linguistic Meaning of المسعر:
Raised

Value

Kindle the fire

Religious Meaning of المسعر:
Allah is المسعر in:
Things
a) القيمة (The value of things)
Allah is الأول - He is the first one who put the price. And He is الآخر - He brings the result. We are stuck on the middle focusing on people. In life it is not about your intelligence, it is about your belief.

In one place you may find that one thing has a high value to those people, whilst it has little value to you. This value is from Allah.

b) التأثير (The effect)
If you go to a toy shop, it has a great effect on children as opposed to adults. If you go to the gold shop, it has a great effect on adults as opposed to children. The effect is from Allah.

c) المكانة (The position)
I.e. The rank it has.

The Punishment
By His justice He will يسعر the fire for the disbelievers.

Why are the prices raised?
b) قلة الشيء و ندرته - The rarity of the item
c) ابتلاء و تمحيص - A test for people

The raising of prices are a test just like the reduction of prices is a test.
We need to go back to ourselves and ask Allah to forgive us, because with forgiveness, Allah gives us strength, enlarges our provision, and gives us rain. By your repentance, Allah can reduce the prices . By your wrongdoing and ungratefulness, prices can be raised. In Surah ar-Rum [30:41]:

"Evil (sins and disobedience of Allah, etc.) has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of men have earned (by oppression and evil deeds, etc.), that Allah may make them taste a part of that which they have done, in order that they may return (by repenting to Allah, and begging His Pardon)."
These are all a nurturing for us.
