Hadith #306:
The Time of Witr: After 'Isha until Fajr
When the Athan for Fajr is called, the time for Witr ends.
Hadith #307:
If you missed Witr, you can make it up at Duha time. If you begin performing a good deed, you should continuously perform it as much as you are able to.
If your heart is awake, you would not oversleep past the prayer. If we had a flight at that time, we would sleep lightly and constantly wake up, out of fear of missing it. Therefore, every night before you sleep, ask Allah to wake you up for Qiyam and Fajr. Do not rely on yourself. If you rely on Allah, Allah will give you. If you rely on yourself, Allah will leave you to yourself.
Hadith #308:
It is better to pray Witr in the late night. It is when Allah descends to the nearest heaven and says:
We are all poor and have thousands of needs and wishes. Allah opens His gate and descends to the nearest heavens just asking you to ask. All your needs are between the Hands of Allah, so do not miss that time.
Allah and the Angels of the day and night witness your prayer. In Surah Al-Isra'a [17:78]:
"Perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) from mid-day till the darkness of the night (i.e. the Zuhr, 'Asr, Maghrib, and 'Isha' prayers), and recite the Quran in the early dawn (i.e. the morning prayer). Verily, the recitation of the Quran in the early dawn is ever witnessed (attended by the angels in charge of mankind of the day and the night)."
The more you want to please Allah, the more you will leave your bed and sleep for His sake. It is not a matter of how much knowledge we have. We learn the rewards to motivate ourselves to take actions. Do not be like a candle that enlightens what is around it but burns itself. You should enlighten yourself before enlightening the people, by acting upon the knowledge you learn.
But if you know yourself, that you never wake up, then do not miss praying Witr everyday. Pray it after Isha, and if you wake up before Fajr pray the Qiyam without Witr.
Hadith #309:
The Duha Prayer
Hadith #310:
Verdict: Sunnah by the saying and action of the Prophet ﷺ.
Saying:
Narrated Abu Huraira: My friend (the Prophet) advised me to do three things and I shall not leave them till I die, these are: To fast three days every month, to offer the Duha prayer, and to offer witr before sleeping. [Al-Bukhari]
Action:Above Hadith
Minimum amount of Rak'ahs: 2 Rak'ah
Maximum amount of Rak'ahs: 12 Rak'ahs
Time of Duha Prayer: 10 minutes after sunrise until 10 minutes before Thuhr
It is forbidden to pray at sunrise because it rises between the horns of the Shaytan and the sun worshippers worship at that time.
It is forbidden to pray when the sun reaches its meridian because the Hellfire is lit (تسعر نار جهنم) at that time.
The Prophet ﷺ would go to the Masjid thanking Allah for bringing him safely back.
The Prophet ﷺ did not pray it in front of the people all the time out of fear of it becoming obligatory on people, which is why sometimes he left it.
Ibn Taymiyah رحمه الله said that if you do not pray Qiyam at not, you can pray Duha continuously instead of it.
Hadith #311:
This is the best time to pray Duha; nearly one hour before Thuhr.
"الأوّابين"
These are people who always return to Allah when they commit a sin.
Hadith #312:
This Hadith is Weak.
This is the reward of the Raatibah, not the Duha Prayer.
Hadith #313:
Verdict of Congregational Prayer for Men: The Scholars differed. Some said it is obligatory, others said it is a stressed Sunnah, but the most correct opinion is that it is obligatory. The Author رحمه الله mentioned Hadiths in this chapter which prove its obligation.
The fruits of praying in congregation are uncountable. All the men in the neighborhood will know each other and the events that are happening in the community; they will be like one family. They will perform good deeds, help one another with money, etc. because they see each other every day in the Masjid.
There is also an evidence in the Quran. In Surah Al-Baqarah [2:43]:
"And perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give Zakat, and Irka' (i.e. bow down or submit yourselves with obedience to Allah) along with Ar-Raki'un."
The Virtue of Praying in Congregation
Hadith #314:
The reward differs according to the person and the Masjid he is in.
E.g. The reward of praying in Masjid Al-Haraam is equal to 100,000 prayers.
E.g. If a Masjid is old, the reward praying in it is more than in a new Masjid, because it has been established on worship.
E.g. According to the Khushoo' of the person. The Prophet ﷺ said, "A person may finish from [the prayer] and all that is recorded for him of his prayer is one-tenth of it, one-ninth, one-eight, one-seventh, one-sixth, one-fifth, one-fourth, one-third or one-half.” [Abu Dawood and Ahmad]
Proof of the Obligation of praying in Congregation (for Men)
Hadith #315:
"والذي نفسي بيده" - By Him in whose Hand my soul is
The Prophet ﷺ swore, which shows us the importance of what he is saying.
"لقد هممت أن......" - I have thought of....
He did not carry it out, otherwise it would cause a Fitnah.
"فأحرق عليهم بيوتهم"- And burning their houses upon them
He means either burn it while they are inside or burn it while they are out (to ruin their property and money)
"والذي نفسي بيده لو يعلم أحدهم أنه يجد عرقا سمينا أو مرماتين حسنتين لشهد العشاء" - By Him in whose Hand my soul is, if one of them knew he would find a fat meaty bone or two fine sheep hooves he would attend the Isha Prayer
If it was for the Dunya, they would come running and stand in lines waiting. But for the Hereafter, they delay their prayers, pray at home, etc. And yet the reward of the hereafter never decreases, while the reward of the Dunya will not be there for long.
Hadith #316:
Why 'Isha and Fajr specifically? Because it is night and at the that time, the people would not know who was there and who was not at the Masjid, and the hypocrites only do acts of worship to show people. Another reason because it is the time of sleeping.
"و لو حبوا" - "Even if they have to come crawling"
The Prophet ﷺ said,
"Give glad tidings for those who walk in darkness to the Masjid with complete light on the Day of Judgement" [At-Tirmithi]
The Day of Judgement is complete darkness, and on that day, Allah will distribute light.
Hadith #317:
Even the blind man, who did not have someone to guide him, did not have an excuse to not pray in the Masjid.
Hadith #318:
"فلا صلاة له"
It does not mean that his prayer is not accepted, it means that it is not perfect. This is a negation of the perfection of the prayer, not its validity.
Even when a person was sick amongst the companions, he would pray leaning on two people beside him.
What should you do if you have already prayed and the Imam in the Masjid is commencing the prayer?
Hadith #319:
You should pray with them, and the prayer you prayed in congregation will be counted as voluntary.
Some men pray at congregational prayer home, and this is wrong. You should pray in the Mosque.
