(14/3/17) - The Sickness and The Cure - الدَّاء و الدّواء - Class 25

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

There are four groups of people, the first of which deserve leadership in the Religion: Those who combine Knowledge + Action.

So Allah informed us that with patience and certainty one attains Leadership in the Religion, and these are those whom Allah excluded from the sentence of the خاسرين (Losers), and Allah swore by العصر - which is the time of striving for the Losers and Winners. In Surah Al-'Asr [103:1-3]:

"By Al-'Asr (the time)."

"Verily! Man is in loss,"

"Except those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth (i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds (Al-Ma'ruf) which Allah has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar) which Allah has forbidden), and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter in Allah's Cause during preaching His religion of Islamic Monotheism or Jihad, etc.)."

And it is not sufficient for them to know the truth and have patience upon it, but to advise one another with it, and guide each other to it, and urge one another upon it.

And from the Consequences (of sins and disobedience): It assists a persons enemies against himself

The Shaytan has more power over the sinner than anyone else. Of the consequences of your sins are that you give strength to the Shaytan - you are aiding your enemy.

Sins and disobedience are a sword and support with which ones enemies get assistance from, and which help his enemies against himself, so they will kill him with his weapon, so he will be with them against himself, and this is the highest level of ignorance.

Your sins are a weapon with which you give your enemies to kill you with.

What enemies are able to attain from an ignorant      Is (nothing in comparison) to what reaches an ignorant from himself.

And from the Consequences: It makes the slave forget his own self. And if he forgets himself, he will neglect it, corrupt it, and destroy it.

A person forgets himself by forgetting to do what benefits him. He may advise everyone else, and neglect himself. But before you save anyone, you need to save yourself. And the cause of you forgetting yourself is your sins.

In Surah Al-Hashr [59:19]:

"And be not like those who forgot Allah (i.e. became disobedient to Allah) and He caused them to forget their ownselves, (let them to forget to do righteous deeds). Those are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah)."

You wonder how there are people who destroy themselves with their own hands.

E.g. People know drugs and cigarettes are bad for them, but do it anyway. Their sins create a barrier which prevent them from thinking about what benefits them.

And from the Consequences: It removes existing blessings and cuts off any connecting blessings.

So it removes what is present, and cuts off what is connected, and nothing preserves the present blessings of Allah like obedience to Him, and nothing brings what is missing like obedience to Him, for what is with Him will not be attained except through Obedience.

Connecting blessings are blessings which would have reached you tomorrow, but because of your sin today, you prevented it from coming.

We do not know what sins we are committing in the Day and Night; so the solution is to perpetually do استغفار

All blessings, whether you have it or not, are in the Hand of Allah. So obey Him, and He will grant you blessings. Allah is Rich and does not need us, if you disobey Him, you will only deprive yourself.

There were people who were gifted a hall to conduct lectures in. But they complained about it and even went to the owner and complained. In the end it was removed from them. In Surah Ibrahim [14:7]:

"And (remember) when your Lord proclaimed: "If you give thanks (by accepting Faith and worshipping none but Allah), I will give you more (of My Blessings), but if you are thankless (i.e. disbelievers), verily! My Punishment is indeed severe."

And from the Consequences: It makes far away from the slave his close friend, the most beneficial of people to him, and most sincere to him. And it is from ones happiness to be near to him, and this is the angel that is entrusted over him. And it makes his enemy closer to him, who is the most deceiving of creation to him, and the greatest in harm to him - and that is the Shaytan.

For verily, if the slave disobeys Allah, the angel will go far away from him in accordance to the level of his sin. The angel may even go a far distance because of one lie.

It can be an angel giving you good thoughts or a good companion.

E.g. You have a pious friend who reminds and advises you, which is a blessing. You commit a sin, and it will make that pious person who benefits you in your Religion far away from you. We usually wonder the reason behind the sudden change - but Allah is the One who makes people close to us and others far, and it is due to our sins. When the good Companion is far from us, the Shaytan will be close to us.

Sometimes we have inner motivation and strength to do good deeds, other times we don't; this is due to the effect of the Angel or the Shaytan on us.
