Surah Qaf - Class 4 - (16/10/16)

Revision:
-> Surah Qaf is a Makiyyah Surah
-> The Surahs revealed in Makkah discuss Tawheed, the Last Day, The Proof of the Message and the Messengership of the Prophet ﷺ.

-> The Theme: Evidences for the Resurrection

-> Division of the Surah:
Verses 1-5 - Introduction
Verses 6-15 - The Universal Proofs for Resurrection
Verses 16-38 - The Resurrection [From your origin until Paradise and Hell]
Verses 39-45 - Conclusion

-> Allah gave us an evidence of the Resurrection through His Wisdom. Would Allah create a human being with a mind, with every action he does and says written, without a reason?
Your children are not satisfied with you just telling them that Allah created them to worship Him. You have to explain that the meaning of worship is to love Him and magnify Him with utmost love and magnification;- That Allah created a heart inside you, and your heart will not ever be at rest until it fulfills its purpose - to know Allah, and when you know Him, to accordingly love and magnify him.

We go to places to try fill our hearts with joy, but we come back home sadder than before. Because real happiness comes from knowing who Allah is. Real happiness comes when you know that Allah is running your life every second throughout the whole day, and that Allah ordered everything that happens to you. Real happiness comes when your heart is with Allah all the time.

-> Allah mentioned the Resurrection in past tense.
E.g. In Verse 19:

Allah said "جاءت"

Part #2 - The Universal Evidence for Resurrection - Verses 6-15

-> In Verse 12 - 15, after Allah talks about the Universal Proofs around them, Allah reminds them about what happened to the previous nations. Allah then summarizes this again in Verse 36.
Do not belie your Messenger as the other nations belied their Messengers before.

Allah mentions 8 nations:

Verse 12:
"Denied before them (i.e. these pagans of Makkah who denied you, O Muhammad ﷺ) the people of Nuh (Noah), and the dwellers of Rass, and the Thamud,"

The People of Nuh
Ibn Abbas said they are a tribe from Thamud.
Ibn Jarir said they are the people who dug the ditch in Surah Al-Burooj

3) "و ثمود" - The People of Saleh عليه السلام

Verse 13:
"And 'Ad, and Fir'aun (Pharaoh), and the brethren of Lout (Lot),"

4) "و عاد" - The People of Hud عليه السلام
And Pharoah
6) "و إخوان لوط" - And the Brethren of Lut عليه السلام

Verse 14:
"And the dwellers of the Wood, and the people of Tubba'; everyone of them denied (their) Messengers, so My Threat took effect."

الأيكة is a tree. And this refers to the people of Shua'ib عليه السلام.

They were a people in Yemen. The King was called "تبع" just like he was called "Pharoah" in Egypt.

Then Allah mentioned what they did:- "كل كذّب الرٌسل فحقّ وعيد" (Every one of them denied their Messengers, so My Threat took effect)

How did Allah destroy each of them?
1) Allah drowned the People of Nuh عليه السلام, save those on the ark.
2) We do not know how Allah destroyed the أصحاب الرّسّ. Allah did not mention their Prophet nor how He destroyed them.
3) Allah sent a cry which killed Thamud.
4) Allah sent a violent wind to Ad.

Allah punished each people with a punishment that was in accordance to their sin. The People of Ad were arrogant, as Allah mentioned in Surah Fussilat [41:15]:

"As for 'Ad, they were arrogant in the land without right, and they said: "Who is mightier than us in strength?" See they not that Allah, Who created them was mightier in strength than them. And they used to deny Our Ayat"

They said, "Who is stronger than us?" and Allah punished them with the lightest thing - the wind.

5) Allah drowned Pharoah. He had previously said that rivers run under him, as Allah mentioned in Surah Zukhruf [43:51]:

"And Fir'aun (Pharaoh) proclaimed among his people, saying: "O my people! Is not mine the dominion of Egypt, and these rivers flowing underneath me. See you not then?"

And Allah drowned him with water.

6) The earth swallowed the People of Lut

7) Allah also destroyed the People of Shua'yb عليه السلامwith an awful cry.

8) Allah did not inform us of the Name of the Messenger or the punishment of "قوم تبع".
But know that Allah destroyed any previous nation that rejected their Messenger. After Musa عليه السلام, Allah raised the punishment of complete destroyal until the Day of Judgement. Nowadays you find people committing the sins of the previous nations, like the permissibility of sodomy, but Allah has not destroyed them like He destroyed the previous nations. Do not think though that Allah will leave them without punishment in this world, they will be afflicted with diseases, difficult lives, etc.

What should we feel when reading these verses?
1) We should have fear. If Allah wants to destroy a nation all He has to say is Be and it will happen.
2) Be cautious of doing what they did.
3) We should feel a sense of protective jealousy - How could they disbelieve in Allah and their Messengers?

Allah concluded this saying, in Verse 15:

"Were We then tired with the first creation? Nay, They are in confused doubt about a new creation (i.e. Resurrection)?"

Allah created us in the beginning, from nothing. Would it not be easier to create us again? Logic dictates that if you do something a second time, it will be easier than when you do it the first time.
As Allah said in Surah Ya-Sin [36:79]:

"Say: (O Muhammad ﷺ) "He will give life to them Who created them for the first time! And He is the All-Knower of every creation!"

And in Surah Al-Israa [17:51]:

"Or some created thing that is yet greater (or harder) in your breasts (thoughts to be resurrected, even then you shall be resurrected)" Then, they will say: "Who shall bring us back (to life)?" Say: "He Who created you first!" Then, they will shake their heads at you and say: "When will that be ?" Say: "Perhaps it is near!"

They are confused and in doubt about a new creation. They do not know what is right and wrong. You should be certain about the Resurrection - and certainty is the second condition of It is the hypocrites who have doubt. Belief in the Day of Judgement is one of the Pillars of Faith, and you should have certainty regarding it. That is why Allah frequently connected between Believing in Him and the Last Day in the Qur'an. For example, in Surah Aal Imran [3:114]:

"They believe in Allah and the Last Day; they enjoin Al-Ma'ruf (Islamic Monotheism, and following Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and opposing Prophet Muhammad ﷺ); and they hasten in (all) good works; and they are among the righteous."

If you believe in Allah, you will do your deed sincerely for Allah. If you believe in the Day of Judgement, you will work for the reward there. You will not wait for anyone to praise or give you the reward here, you will wait for the Day of Judgement.

Part #3 - The Resurrection [From your origin until Paradise and Hell] - Verses 16-38

Verse 16:
"And indeed We have created man, and We know what his ownself whispers to him. And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein (by Our Knowledge)."

"و لقد خلقنا الإنسان"
Allah is reminding us that He is the only One who Created us. When you know that no one created you except Allah, then you should know that He has a right over us. And His right over us is to worship Him alone.

"و نعلم"
Allah knows about you during all situations.

"ما توسوس به نفسه"
When we hear the word وسواس we always think of the Shaytan. You should know that you have another enemy;- your own self. This is why one of the morning and evening supplications is:

You begin seeking refuge in Allah from the evil of your self before the evil of the Shaytan.

Your self whispers to you, and Allah knows about that whisper.
E.g. You want to wake up for the night prayer, your self says 5 minutes 5 minutes, until you sleep and do not pray.

The Scholars say you should deal with yourself as if it is a camel or horse. Ride your self, do not let it ride you. When it tells you to do something later, say now. You should discipline yourself. With time, your self will be مطمئنة (tranquil). It will wake up for the night prayer without alarm. If you want to do a good deed you will do it without struggling. Your heart will be as the Prophet ﷺ described it in a Hadith, like a very white stone - where no trial or turmoil will harm you. Because every time Allah tested you, you passed, until your heart became white.

Allah mentioned two of His Perfect Attributes, then one Attribute of the Human Self, and then another of His Perfect Attributes: His Nearness.

"و نحن أقرب إليه من حبل الوريد"

If you have a calamity, need, or are feeling sad without any reason - who is nearer to you than anyone else? Who is the King of Kings? Who can remove this affliction from you? Only Allah.

Ibn AlQayyim mentioned three ranks of people who complain:
1) People who complain about Allah to people. And this is the lowest rank.
The calamity you are going through is from Allah and yet you run to people complaining and complaining seeking relief from them. If you do this you are a sinner.

2) People who complain to Allah about people.
E.g. People oppress you and you ask Allah to relieve you from them.

3) People who complain to Allah about themselves. And this is the highest rank.
E.g. "O Allah I am lazy, give me strength. I am heedless and forgetful, increase me in faith"

When you believe Allah is القريبl you will:

1) Turn Him to fulfill every need you have in life.
Because you know that the One who has Perfect Attributes is so close. Allah knows about you all the time, He knows about the pain inside your heart even if you do not talk about. No one can help you, they are all tools in the Hand of Allah. They cannot do anything for you unless Allah gives them permission.

Even your children, who came out of your womb and whom you raised them up, change in their emotions and temper. They are never satisfied. Allah is the One who can make them satisfied.

Once Mua'wiyah wrote a letter to Aaisha رضي الله عنها, "Give me an advice from the advices of the Prophet ﷺ and make it short". Aaisha رضي الله عنها said, "The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever seeks Allah's pleasure at the cost of mens displeasure, will win the pleasure of Allah and Allah will cause men to be pleased with him.Whoever seeks to please men at the cost of Allah's displeasure, will win the displeasure of Allah, and Allah will cause men to be displeased with Him."[Reported by Ibn Hibban in his Sahih].

If you disobey Allah in raising your children, seeking their love; instead of loving you, they will
disrespect you.

Allah is Able to make everything easy. We have heard and witnessed so many stories, where you thought something was impossible, but when you made Tawakkul and trusted Allah, such and such happened. This is because Allah is the One running all the affairs. All you have to do is trust and think good about Him. He is nearer to you than anything.

2) You would not commit sins.

The Scholars said that Allah is near to us with His Knowledge and by His Angels:

Verse 17:
"(Remember!) that the two receivers (recording angels) receive (each human being after he or she has attained the age of puberty), one sitting on the right and one on the left (to note his or her actions).

You have Angels writing everything you do until you die. They only change shifts during Fajr and Asr time.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Angels come to you in succession by night and day and all of them get together at the time of the Fajr and `Asr prayers. Those who have passed the night with you (or stayed with you) ascend (to the Heaven) and Allah asks them, though He knows everything about you, well, "In what state did you leave my slaves?" The angels reply: "When we left them they were praying and when we reached them, they were praying." [Bukhari]

This is why it is very important to pray Fajr and Asr on time. Some mothers let their children sleep to rest so they can wake up later to do their homework. What about their prayers?

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"الَّذِي تَفُوتُهُ صَلاَةُ الْعَصْرِ فَكَأَنَّمَا وُتِرَ أَهْلَهُ وَمَالَهُ "
"Whoever misses the Asr prayer, then it is as if he was robbed of his family and his property." [Tirmithi]

And the Prophet ﷺ said:

"You people will see your Lord as you see this full moon, and you will have no trouble in seeing Him, so if you can avoid missing (through sleep or business, etc.) a prayer before sunrise (Fajr) and a prayer before sunset (`Asr) you must do so" [Bukhari]

Also, The Prophet ﷺ liked to fast Monday's and Thursday's because the Angels who write our deeds take it to Allah. In the Hadith:

"تُعْرَضُ الأَعْمَالُ يَوْمَ الاِثْنَيْنِ وَالْخَمِيسِ فَأُحِبُّ أَنْ يُعْرَضَ عَمَلِي وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ "

"Deeds are presented on Monday and Thursday, and I love that my deeds be presented while I am fasting." [Tirmithi]

You are responsible for what you raise your children on. We should train our children on prayer for 3 years. Ages 7-10. Until Allah makes it easy for them and put love in their hearts for the prayer.

The Angels write the good and bad deeds of a person. They begin their work when the man or woman reaches the age of puberty. When they are young they still have the Angels who protect them in front, behind them, on their right, and left. Look at how Allah takes care of His slaves. We are walking and we have four Angels around us guarding us from all the harm which Allah did not decree. And we have two angels on our shoulders writing our good and bad deeds. When a person dies they will close his record until the Day of Judgement. Then, on the Day of Judgement we will take our records, either on our left or right hands.

Verse 18:
"Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it)."

"ما يلفظ من قول"
The Prophet ﷺ said:

"A slave (of Allah) may utter a word which pleases Allah without giving it much importance, and because of that Allah will raise him to degrees (of reward): a slave (of Allah) may utter a word (carelessly) which displeases Allah without thinking of its gravity and because of that he will be thrown into the Hell-Fire." [Bukhari]

Allah describes the Angels:
1) "رقيب" - They are watching everything you do. They will be witnesses for or against you on the Day of Judgement. We have different witnesses for or against us on the Day of Judgement:

a) Our Body.
That is why we do Dhikr on our fingers, hoping it will be a witness.

b) The Earth
In Surah Zalzalah [99:4]:

"That Day it will declare its information (about all what happened over it of good or evil)."

Pray in as many places as you can so they can all be witnesses for you on the Day of Judgement.

c) The Angels
d) The Believers
e) The Prophets.

They are always there and ready to record. They are not absent. All they do is change shifts in the Fajr and Asr prayer.

This is one of the Pillars of Faith. If you believe in this, you should feel shy of committing sins, or doing something that harms them. What are some things that harm the Angels?
1- Sins
2- Bad Smells
3- Dogs inside the house
4- Pictures inside the house

Verse 19:
"And the stupor of death will come in truth: "This is what you have been avoiding!"

Allah is talking about the Minor Qiyama;  the end of our test - When we die. And we do not know when we are going to die.

"و جآءت سكرة الموت"
Death has severe pain which will affect and shut down the mind of a person, so that he only says  what he used to in life.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"مَنْ كَانَ آخِرُ كَلاَمِهِ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّة"
"If anyone's last words are "There is no god but Allah" he will enter Paradise." [Sunan Abi Dawud]

Do not think it is something easy to say. What you are used to doing in life will be what you say in your last moments.

"بالحق"
Even if you deny the Resurrection you see people dying. This is the truth. People are going to the hereafter whether they try to escape it or not. It is the truth - You will face it.

"ذالك ما كنت منه تحيد"
This is what you were running away and scared of. Death is like a bridge which will take you from this life to another life - the life of Barzakh.
There are four lives:
1- Life in the womb of your mother
2- Life in this world
3- Life in AlBarzakh
Here your soul is attached to your body similar to how it is when you sleep. You see things which people around you do not see. You see a dead body, but you do not see what its soul is seeing.

4- The Hereafter
This is eternal - either in Paradise or Hellfire.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

 " مَنْ أَحَبَّ لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ أَحَبَّ اللَّهُ لِقَاءَهُ، وَمَنْ كَرِهَ لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ كَرِهَ اللَّهُ لِقَاءَهُ ". قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ أَوْ بَعْضُ أَزْوَاجِهِ إِنَّا لَنَكْرَهُ الْمَوْتَ."
"Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah (too) loves to meet him and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah (too) hates to meet him". `Aisha, or some of the wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "But we dislike death....."

She equated the meeting of Allah to death, but death is just a bridge to take you to meeting Allah.

The Prophet ﷺ taught us to say:
"...وَأَسْأَلُكَ لَذَّةَ النَّظَرِ إِلَى وَجْهِكَ وَالشَّوْقَ إِلَى لِقَائِكَ....
"...I ask You for the sweetness of looking upon Your face and the longing for Your meeting.."

He connected two pleasures:
1- The Pleasure of the Hereafter
I.e. Seeing Allah when you enter Paradise. Allah will gather the people on a Friday and uncover the veil,  and when the People of Paradise see the Face of Allah, they will forget everything else, because the greatest pleasure is seeing Allah.

2- The Pleasure in this World
I.e. This is the longing of meeting Allah. We should feel it in this world, when we worship Him.
In Surah Al-Ankabut [29:5]:

"Whoever hopes for the Meeting with Allah, then Allah's Term is surely coming. and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower."

If, for example, you know of a woman who is Generous, Kind, and who sends you a gift every month - each time the gift is better than the other. You know her name, but you have never met her. You would look forward and wait to meet this generous, nice, kind lady. So what about Allah The more you know Allah, the more you will love and glorify Him. Differentiate between the Meeting of Allah and Death. Death is only a bridge to meeting Allah.

That is why the Prophet ﷺ said in response to Aaisha

"It is not like this, but it is meant that when the time of the death of a believer approaches, he receives the good news of Allah's pleasure with him and His blessings upon him, and so at that time nothing is dearer to him than what is in front of him. He therefore loves the meeting with Allah, and Allah (too) loves the meeting with him. But when the time of the death of a disbeliever approaches, he receives the evil news of Allah's torment and His Requital, whereupon nothing is more hateful to him than what is before him. Therefore, he hates the meeting with Allah, and Allah too, hates the meeting with him." [Bukhari #6507]

Allah shows us how the disbelievers are punished in their life before they die. The Jewish Minister was in a coma for 7 years, and they said that 7 hours before he died, they noticed an action in his heart and mind which indicated that he was seeing nightmares.

Verse 20:
"And the Trumpet will be blown, that will be the Day whereof warning (had been given) (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)."

Allah then talks about the Major Qiyama: This begins with the blowing of the trumpet. This is the first scene of the Day of Judgement.

"A Bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'What is the trumpet?' He said: 'A horn that will be blown into'" [Tirmithi]

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"إن طرف صاحب الصور منذ وكل به مستعد ينظر نحو العرش ، مخافة أن يؤمر قبل أن يرتد إليه طرفه كأن عينيه كوكبان دريان"
“The gaze of the one who will blow the Trumpet (The Angel Israfeel) has been fixed since he was entrusted with it, looking towards the throne, ready (to blow it), in case he will be commanded to do so before he blinks, as if his eyes are two shining stars.” [Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 1078.]

The Trumpet will be blown on a Friday. The Prophet ﷺ said:

 "إِنَّ مِنْ أَفْضَلِ أَيَّامِكُمْ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فِيهِ خُلِقَ آدَمُ وَفِيهِ النَّفْخَةُ وَفِيهِ الصَّعْقَةُ"
"The best of your days is Friday. On it Adam was created, on it the Trumpet will be blown, on it all creatures will swoon...." [Ibn Majah]

The trumpet will be blown twice, other scholars said three times. The Scholars who said twice said:
1- The first one will cause all the people alive to die when they hear the blow.
2- The second one will cause all the souls to go back to their respective bodies.

In a Hadith narrated by Abu Hurayrah:

The Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said: “Between the two blowings of the Trumpet there will be forty.” The people said, “O Abu Hurayrah! Forty days?” I said: “I am not sure.” They said, “Forty years?” I said: “I am not sure.” They said, “Forty months?” I said: “I am not sure. Then Allaah will send rain down from the sky and they will grow as herbs grow. There is no part of a man which will not decay except a single bone at the base of the coccyx, from which he will be re-created on the Day of Resurrection.” [Agreed upon]

In Surah Zumar [39:68]:

"And the Trumpet will be blown, and all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth will swoon away, except him whom Allah will. Then it will blown a second time and behold, they will be standing, looking on (waiting)."

Some Scholars said the exceptions to the death will be Jibreel, Mika'eel, Israfeel, and the Angels who hold the Throne. Others said the Martyrs. Others said Musa عليه السلام because of the Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ:

" إِنِّي أَوَّلُ مَنْ يَرْفَعُ رَأْسَهُ بَعْدَ النَّفْخَةِ الآخِرَةِ، فَإِذَا أَنَا بِمُوسَى مُتَعَلِّقٌ بِالْعَرْشِ فَلاَ أَدْرِي أَكَذَلِكَ كَانَ أَمْ بَعْدَ النَّفْخَةِ "
"I will be the first to raise my head after the second blowing of the trumpet and will see Moses hanging the Throne, and I will not know whether he had been in that state all the time or after the blowing of the trumpet." [Bukhari]

Then, everyone will emerge from the earth, and Allah will gather them in one place. There will be no ties of kinship between anyone. In Surah Al-Mu'minoon [23:101]:

"Then, when the Trumpet is blown, there will be no kinship among them that Day, nor will they ask of one another."

The mother will run away from her children, the husband will run away from his wife. The people close to you and who protect you in this life will run away from you.

Narrated Abu Hurairah "When (the following) was revealed: 'And warn your tribe of near kindred (26:214)' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gathered the (families) of the Quraish (calling them) one and all, he said: 'O people of the Quraish! Ransom yourselves from the Fire! I have no power to prevent harm or bring benefit to you before Allah! O people of Banu 'Abd Manaf! Ransom yourselves from the Fire! I have no power to prevent harm or bring benefit to you before Allah! O people of Banu Qusayy! Ransom yourselves from the Fire! I have no power to prevent harm or bring benefit to you! O people of Banu 'Abdul-Muttalib! Ransom yourselves from the Fire! I have no power to prevent harm or bring benefit to you! O Fatimah bint Muhammad! Ransom yourself from the Fire! I have no power to prevent harm or bring benefit to you before Allah! All you have is the womb, and the kind relations that shall come of it." [Tirmithi]

Nothing will benefit you except for your good deeds. اللهم سلم سلم - (O Allah, safety, safety) will be  the invocation of the Prophets on that day.

The earth will white, laid out without signs, like bread. In Surah Al-Fajr [89:21]:

"Nay! When the earth is ground to powder,"

You will not be able to hear a single voice. Everyone will listen and obey. Because the cover will be removed.  In this life there is a cover between some peoples eyes and hearts; they do not see the hereafter. On the Day of Judgement, everyone will see and believe, but it will not benefit them. Only if you believe in the unseen now.

Verse 21:
"And every person will come forth along with an (angel) to drive (him), and an (angel) to bear witness."

Every person will come forth with two angels: One to to drive him to the place of gathering and another to bear witness - these are the Angels who write our good and bad deeds.

Allah takes care of His Slaves; Nothing is lost with Him. Any good you do will not go to waste; Allah will guard it for you and you will see it on the Day of Judgement. Perform good deeds and trust that Allah will not waste an atom of good. In Surah Zalzalah [99:7-8]:

"So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it."

"And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it."

This is one of the things we need to train our children upon when they are young. There is good and bad. If you do an atom of good or bad you will see it in this life and the next. Do not say no one saw, no one rewarded me; you will see it in the hereafter.

Verse 22:

"(It will be said to the sinners): "Indeed you were heedless of this, now We have removed your covering, and sharp is your sight this Day!"

They were heedless of the Day of Judgement; about the asking of their deeds.

You have seen the reality now. You were blind in this Dunya. When you were told not do such and such because it was Haraam and it would lead you to hellfire, you used to say "You always Haraam Haraam, let's enjoy our lives; Allah is Forgiving"
You were blind and did not listen, but on that day Allah will remove the covering from your eyes.

Ibn Abbas said this is talking about the disbeliever. Others say it includes the believers as well. Because this Dunya is short and like a dream. And on the Day of Judgement it you wake up from that dream.
In Surah Al-Mu'minoon [23:112-114]:

"He (Allah) will say: "What number of years did you stay on earth?"

"They will say: "We stayed a day or part of a day. Ask of those who keep account."

"He (Allah) will say: "You stayed not but a little, if you had only known!"

They will say they lived for a day or part of a day while they lived for 70, 80, or 100 years. But it was as if they lived for one day. Ask Allah to fill your time with good deeds and to make your heart awake and not heedless of performing good deeds.

Allah described the state of the disbelievers on the Day of Judgement in other verses. In Surah Sajdah [32:12]:

"And if you only could see when the Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.) shall hang their heads before their Lord (saying): "Our Lord! We have now seen and heard, so send us back (to the world), we will do righteous good deeds. Verily! We now believe with certainty."

In Surah Maryam [19:38]:
"How clearly will they (polytheists and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah) see and hear, the Day when they will appear before Us! But the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers) today are in plain error."

Their hearing, seeing, and understanding will be sharp. But their certainty will not benefit them on that Day.

Verse 23:
"And his companion (angel) will say: "Here is (this Record) ready with me!"

The Angel in charge of writing your record will show Allah the record he wrote. Everything will be written, without increase or decreasing anything.

Nothing will benefit you on the Day of Judgement like your Tawheed.

Nothing will benefit you like saying لا اله الا الله with your tongue, believing it in your heart, and acting upon it. Allah will forgive all your sins because of Tawheed.

This is why Ibrahim عليه اسلام's invocation in Surah Ibrahim [14:35] was:

"And (remember) when Ibrahim (Abraham) said: "O my Lord! Make this city (Makkah) one of peace and security, and keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols."
