Surah Al-Fatihah Part 2 - (30/10/16)

بِسْم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Verse 5:

"You (Alone) we worship, and you (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything)."

This verse calls the believers to acquire knowledge in many matters:

1) Tawheed
"إياك نعبد و إياك نستعين" basically means, "We worship You and we seek Your Help" however the sentence is structured as "إياك - You alone, O Allah, do we worship" instead of "We worship You O Allah". In other words you are saying, "I particularize you, O Allah, with Worship and no one else"  - and this is Tawheed.
Because Tawheed means that no one deserves to be worshipped except Allah; no one deserves to be sought help from except Allah.

What is now required from me after knowing the meaning of this? To worship Allah alone and no one else throughout my life.

2) Shirk
In Surah Zumar [39:65], Allah severely warns and threatens us against Shirk:

"And indeed it has been revealed to you (O Muhammad ﷺ), as it was to those (Allah's Messengers) before you: "If you join others in worship with Allah, (then) surely (all) your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers."

Why do we have people sitting down and reciting the Qur'an in a place where dead people are worshipped and Shirk is committed? What is the problem with this person? He has no knowledge. He is reading the Qur'an like any other book, not understanding what Allah is telling Him. He reads "إياك نعبد و إياك نستعين" and the above verse, yet he has no knowledge of Shirk and the different aspects of Shirk.
Many Muslims believe that Shirk is limited to worshipping idols, and do not understand that it takes different forms.

In Surah Al-A'raf [7:33]:

"Say (O Muhammad ﷺ): "(But) the things that my Lord has indeed forbidden are Al-Fawahish (great evil sins, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse, etc.) whether committed openly or secretly, sins (of all kinds), unrighteous oppression, joining partners (in worship) with Allah for which He has given no authority, and saying things about Allah of which you have no knowledge.""

Allah clearly states the prohibiton of Shirk. Even more serious than Shirk is to say about Allah things which you have no knowledge of.
E.g. To say Allah loves this, Allah hates this, Allah put this person in Hell, making Tafseer out of his Ian interpretation without evidence, etc.

Everyone knows Shirk is Haraam, but they do not understand the different forms of Shirk. They do not know that calling unto dead people is Shirk, vowing or sacrificing in the name of their Walis is called Shirk, wearing strings around hands and necks for bringing good or averting harm is Shirk. Although they know that Shirk is Haraam.

This is why when we say "إياك نعيد.." we need to learn Tawheed and the different types of Shirk.

If one does not know Tawheed he would not know how to make Jihad
E.g. A person is in a mixed community with both polytheists and monotheists.  Whenever a calamity befalls him he is told to go call this dead person, get water from this Wali, etc.
Only the person who knows Tawheed will stick to Tawheed. He will say:  Allah is مالك الملك, He is the One who will remove my calamity and no one else.
They will say "Just go once and try" - trying to push him to commit Shirk. If he do not know  Tawheed, and the different aspects of Shirk, he would easily be driven away by their suggestions. But if you have knowledge about Tawheed and the different forms of Shirk, you would never even dare to think about committing Shirk.
This is what Muslims lack in -  knowledge about Tawheed and the different forms of Shirk. This is why people commit Shirk easily. They recite رب الناس، ملك الناس، اله الناس and they do not know the meaning of what they are reciting.

Nowadays the magicians are not like the magicians of the previous times - living in dark places. The magicians have offices nowadays and secretaries outside. They do not call themselves magicians, but people who solve problems. And ignorant people go and seek help from them. People who know that the Messengers were not sent except to call the people to Tawheed but they do not know what they are doing opposes that.

Mutarrif reported that his father said, "I went in the delegation of the Banu 'Amir to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. They said, 'You are our master.' He said, 'The Master is Allah.' [Adab Al-Mufrad, Authenticated by Al-Albani]

Even though the Prophet ﷺ will really be the master of people on the Day of Judgement, he wanted to block the doors of committing Shirk and protect the sanctity of the Tawheed. Because over praising and exaggeration regarding the status of a person led people to commit Shirk. We have to be careful of overpraising anyone. They are just humans, whom Allah honoured. So we honour them as Allah honoured them, but not raise them above the status of Allah.

The Prophet ﷺ used to fear the Hidden Shirk: Ar-Riyaa. How would you feel this Shirk if you did not know it? The slight movement of the heart towards someone other than Allah is hidden Shirk - Seeking  the praise of people, fame, hoping to get something from them.
How would we know this if we had no knowledge? Do not say I finished studying Kitab At-Tawheed. We have to read this book again and again. Every Muslim should have this book in their house, learn it and teach it to their children. Whenever you do any good deed you should direct your heart to Allah, do it because you want Allahs pleasure, the reward of Allah; do not let your heart be attached to other than Allah.

Every verse in Surah Al-Fatihah tells us about the importance of knowledge.
