Supplications for Staying Firm on the Right Path - (16/10/16)

بِسْم الله الرحمن الرحيم

The believer should take care of remaining firm on the straight path. There are people whom as the days go by feel lazy, weak, and believe that they will never be deviated. This is because they rely on themselves - due to ignorance of themselves, and ignorance of their Lord. The more you increase in faith, the more afraid you become of deviation.

Allah mentioned in Surah Aal-Imran [3:7-8]:

"It is He Who has sent down to you (Muhammad ﷺ) the Book (this Quran). In it are Verses that are entirely clear, they are the foundations of the Book; and others not entirely clear. So as for those in whose hearts there is a deviation (from the truth) they follow that which is not entirely clear thereof, seeking Al-Fitnah (polytheism and trials, etc.), and seeking for its hidden meanings, but none knows its hidden meanings save Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: "We believe in it; the whole of it (clear and unclear Verses) are from our Lord." And none receive admonition except men of understanding."

"They say): "Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You. Truly, You are the Bestower."

How can you not feel afraid when you hear the Hadith where the Prophet ﷺ said:

"A person may do deeds that seem to the people as the deeds of the people of Paradise while in fact, he is from the dwellers of the (Hell) Fire: and similarly a person may do deeds that seem to the people as the deeds of the people of the (Hell) Fire while in fact, he is from the dwellers of Paradise. Verily, the (results of) deeds done, depend upon the last actions." [Bukhari #6493]

If this matter is important to you, you would be concerned about it; you would have feelings regarding it.

The Means of Keeping Firm

1) Making Dua (دعاء)
This is the strongest means of keeping firm. Because you know that keeping you firm is in the Hands of Allah. If you ask Allah, Allah will give you. If you neglect asking, you will not be given.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"وَإِنَّ أَعْجَزَ النَّاسِ مَنْ عَجَزَ بِالدُّعَاءِ."
"The most incapable of people of people is the one who is the most incapable of supplication." [Adab AlMufrad]

2) Good Companions.
Your friends will either remind you when you forget and push you towards the straight the path or they will remind you of the Dunya, cause you to forget the hereafter, and divert you from guidance. Take care when choosing your friends.

3) Take care of Increasing in Faith and Good Deeds.
We are traveling to Allah. We will all stand in front of Him one day. You will take luggage with you -  not anything from this world, but your good deeds. So increase in performing them as much as you can.

4) Inspect your heart for Sicknesses and Diseases.
Your heart will not be kept firm if it has sicknesses in it. If your heart is always filled with thinking bad about people, envy, how will your worship be correct? You will pray and your heart will be occupied with planning on how to take revenge, etc.

You need to find out your sickness and seek the cure from the Qur'an and Sunnah.

Some Supplications for Keeping Firm:

1)

You recite Surah Al-Fatihah in every Rak'ah in your prayer. When you reach this part of the Surah collect your heart and remind yourself that the purpose behind you reciting this entire Surah is to ask Allah for guidance.

2) In a Hadith narrated by Muslim:

Say this دعاء during your Sujood during the last third of the night, between the Athan and Iqama, every time دعاء's are answered.

You are seeking refuge with the عزة of Allah from being misguided.
Then you affirm Tawheed.

3) In another Hadith narrated by Muslim:

This is a very general comprehensive دعاء which covers everything,

4)

In another narration:

Ali reported that Allah's Messenger ﷺ said to him: Say," O Allah, direct me to the right path and make me adhere to the straight path," and when you make a mention of right guidance, keep in mind the right path and when you consider of the straight (path), keep in mind the straightness of the arrow." [Muslim]
