بِسْم الله الرحمن الرحيم
"Say: (O Muhammad ﷺ) "He will give life to them Who created them for the first time! And He is the All-Knower of every creation!"
16-12-1437H
The Salaf used to magnify three things:
1) The Last 10 Nights of Ramadan
2) The First 10 Days of Dhul-Hijjah
3) The First 10 Days of Muharram
The life of the believer is filled with good deeds, because he does not know when he is going to die.
Always purify your intention with Allah. No one knows what is in your heart except Him. When you are concerned and fearful of a bad end, and invoke Allah, Allah will grant you a good end. But the more heedless you are, the more Allah will neglect you.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"كن في الدنيا كأنك غريب، أو عابر سبيل"
وكان ابن عمر، رضي الله عنهما، يقول: إذا أمسيت، فلا تنتظر الصباح، وإذا أصبحت لا تنتظر المساء، وخذ من صحتك لمرضك ومن حياتك لموتك
"Be in the world like a stranger or a wayfarer".
Ibn 'Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) used to say: "When you survive till the evening, do not expect to live until the morning; and when you survive until the morning, do not expect to live until the evening; (do good deeds) when you are in good health before you fall sick, and (do good deeds) as long as you are alive before death strikes". [Bukhari]
Surah Qaf - سورة ق
The Connection between the Beginning and End of the Surah:
In the Beginning: [50:1-3]:
""Qaf. [These letters (Qaf, etc.) are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. By the Glorious Quran."
"Nay, they wonder that there has come to them a warner (Muhammad ﷺ) from among themselves. So the disbelievers say: "This is a strange thing!"
At the End: [50:43-45]:
"Verily, We it is Who give life and cause death; and to Us is the final return"
"On the Day when the earth shall be cleft, from off them, (they will come out) hastening forth. That will be a gathering, quite easy for Us."
"We know of best what they say; and you (O Muhammad ﷺ) are not a tyrant over them (to force them to Belief). But warn by the Quran, him who fears My Threat."
Allah began the Surah talking about the disbelievers denial of the Resurrection. Allah replies to them at the end of the Surah; He is the One who gives life and causes death, and it is quite easy for Allah to gather them all again. Allah also addresses the Prophet ﷺ, advising him to be patient with what they say, and to remind with the Qur'an.
Allah also began the Surah talking about the Qur'an, and ended it talking about the Qur'an.
The Connection between the End of the Previous Surah (سورة الحجرات) and the Beginning of سورة ق:
At the End of Surah AlHujurat: [49:18]:
"Verily, Allah knows the unseen of the heavens and the earth. And Allah is the All-Seer of what you do"
At the Beginning of Surah Qaf: [50:4]:
"We know that which the earth takes of them (their dead bodies), and with Us is a Book preserved (i.e. the Book of Decrees)."
Allah ended Surah AlHujurat talking about His Knowledge, and mentioned it in the beginning of Surah Qaf.
Part #1 - The Introduction [Denial of the Resurrection] - Verses 1-5
Verse 1:
"Qaf. [These letters (Qaf, etc.) are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. By the Glorious Quran."
"قٓ"
This is of the Huroof Muqata'at.
Most of the verses that follow these broken letters talk about the Qur'an. This is in order to show you the greatness of the Qur'an, that the Arabic Language is made up of these letters, yet no one could come up with anything similar to the Qur'an. Because it is the Speech of Allah
"و"
This is واو القسم. Allah swears by the Qur'an.
Allah can swear by any of His creation. However, we are only allowed to swear by Allah. We can swear by the Qur'an because it is the Speech of Allah; One of His Attributes. We cannot swear by the Ka'bah, etc.
"القرآن المجيد"
المجيد is one of the Names of Allah, however Allah also named the Qur'an with it in two positions in the Qur'an: This Verse and [85:21]:
"Nay! This is a Glorious Quran"
Of the مجد (Greatness and Honour) of the Qur'an is that no Jinn or Man can bring anything like it, even if they all gathered together. In [17:88]:
"Say: "If the mankind and the jinns were together to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they helped one another."
The Qur'an is also مجيد because Allah has preserved it fully from corruption or change until the Day of Judgement. In [15:9]:
"Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption)."
From the مجد of the Qur'an is that anyone who recites it, follows it, and acts upon it will be elevated in ranks in Paradise.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
" إِنَّ لِلَّهِ أَهْلِينَ مِنَ النَّاسِ "
.قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَنْ هُمْ
قَالَ " هُمْ أَهْلُ الْقُرْآنِ أَهْلُ اللَّهِ وَخَاصَّتُهُ "
"Allah has His own people among mankind.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, who are they?' He said: 'The people of the Qur'an, the people of Allah and those who are closest to Him.'" [Ibn Majah]
Verse 2:
"Nay, they wonder that there has come to them a warner (Muhammad ﷺ) from among themselves. So the disbelievers say: "This is a strange thing!"
The disbelievers were amazed with two things:
1) The fact that this Prophet was a human being
2) The Resurrection.
And this amazement is out of their weak minds. They are like the miser who is amazed with the generosity of the generous.
Verse 3:
They think it is something far fetched, because they equate their ability with the ability of the Creator. They equate the One with Perfect Attributes with the attributes of weak slaves.
Then Allah gives them an evidence of His ability to recreate: His Knowledge
Verse 4:
"We know that which the earth takes of them (their dead bodies), and with Us is a Book preserved (i.e. the Book of Decrees)."
The dead man does not disintegrate in one second. Everyday something goes away from his body. The Scholars would advise each other saying, "The first thing that rots is your stomach, so eat lawfully"
Allah knows what the earth will take from their bodies. He knows where each body will go and what will happen to it. Some people are lost in the sea, others are in the stomachs of the animals. Allah knows about them and will resurrect them again.
Allah protected the Preserved Tablet from the Shayateen. None of them can find out what is in it. And Allah protected it from change.
Ibn AlQayyim said, "The evidence of resurrection from the Perfect Attributes of Allah in the Qur'an are three:
1) The Complete Knowledge of Allah.
He knows in complete about His creation. Because of His knowledge of them, He is Able to resurrect them again. In [36:78-79]:
"And he puts forth for Us a parable, and forgets his own creation. He says: "Who will give life to these bones when they have rotted away and became dust?"
"Say: (O Muhammad ﷺ) "He will give life to them Who created them for the first time! And He is the All-Knower of every creation!"
Allah gives 10 evidences for resurrection at the end of Surah Ya-Sin.
To clearly illustrate how the knowledge of Allah is proof for His ability to recreate: An atheist once said to his student, "I can create." He put old food in a jar and after a while maggots were born. The student said to him, "If you created it then you should be able to tell me exactly how many there are, how many are male, how many are female, etc."
2) The Complete Ability of Allah.
In [36:81]:
"Is not He, Who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the like of them? Yes, indeed! He is the All-Knowing Supreme Creator."
3) The Perfect Wisdom of Allah
In [38:27]:
"And We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them without purpose! That is the consideration of those who disbelieve! Then woe to those who disbelieve (in Islamic Monotheism) from the Fire!"
In [23:115]:
"Did you think that We had created you in play (without any purpose), and that you would not be brought back to Us?"
In [75:36]:
"Does man think that he will be left Suda [neglected without being punished or rewarded for the obligatory duties enjoined by his Lord (Allah) on him]?"
The doubts of those who deny the resurrection:
1) Their bodies will be lost in earth, how can it ever be gathered again?
2) They equate their ability to the ability of the Creator
3) They do not think they are created with a purpose
Verse 5:
"Nay, but they have denied the truth (this Quran) when it has come to them, so they are in a confused state (can not differentiate between right and wrong)."
الحق refers to the Qur'an.
Because they denied it, they are confused. And this is rule: Every time you find someone who denies the truth, you will find him confused. Sometimes he says this, other times he says that. If you follow the truth you will be firm; you will have rules. You will not change your mind every time.
Allah then gives them evidence from the Universe around them:
Part #2 - The Universal Evidence for Resurrection - Verses 6-15
Verse 6:
"Have they not looked at the heaven above them, how We have made it and adorned it, and there are no rifts in it?"
Allah is telling them to raise their heads, look at the sky. Look how Allah created the sky above us without pillars. He adorned it with different colored stars, with their light being according to their age. Look at the sky and how there are no rifts or cracks.
The Scholars would remind each other to reflect over the creation. Instead of looking at the people and cars, look at the stars, sky, moon. Look at the creation of Allah.
Sufyan ibn Uyainah, one of the Tabi'een said, "Reflecting over the creation of Allah is a light which enters the heart"
Tadabbur is pondering over the Qur'an, Tafakkur is pondering over the creation of Allah. They are two acts of worship. The more you ponder the more you will increase in faith, the more you will praise Allah and glorify Him.
Verse 7:
"And the earth! We have spread it out, and set thereon mountains standing firm, and have produced therein every kind of lovely growth (plants)."
Allah did not just create the earth, He spread it out. He made it easy to travel from place to place. And He set mountains on it and put all lovely kinds of plants on it.
Verse 8:
"تبصرة"
It is as if you were blind and Allah gave you sight when you reflected over these creation. Because the creation teaches you about the Creator. If you see the benefits in the creation, you will see the Mercy of the Creator behind it. If you see the greatness in the creation, you will know the Greatness of the Creator.
"تذكرة"
Reminding is the opposite of forgetting. If you forget the purpose you will think this is the life to enjoy and be adventurous. The goal of the Muslim is very clear, He is in a test and he does not know when his test is going to finish.
It is not a reminder and an insight for just anyone, it is a reminder and insight for the:
"عبد منيب"
Inabah has four parts:
1) Love.
The slave loves His Lord. How can you love if you do not know your Lord? This slave knows how Allah is dealing with him in every situation, he knows that everything happens because Allah is running his life and nurturing him.
2) Submission.
3) To Head to Allah
4) Leave anything other than Allah behind you.
This is Tawheed.
The منيب is not an angel, he commits sins. But when he does, he repents. He is like a horse tied with a long rope, he can only go so far, and he will come back. If he commits a sin he will not go commit another until he loses his faith. He regrets and makes Inabah to Allah, asks Allah to forgive him. He knows if he asks Allah to forgive him, Allah will forgive him. If Allah remind him of his previous sin, he repents again. He does not feel pleasure when he remembers or commits the sin nor does he hope that he can commit the sin again; he feels pain. He commits sin out of forgetfulness and heedlessness.
He is a slave who loves Allah, submits himself to Allah, has Tawheed - every time he commits a sin he repents to Allah.
Then Allahs sets a third evidence from the Universe around us: The Rain
Verse 9:
"And We send down blessed water (rain) from the sky, then We produce therewith gardens and grain (every kind of harvests) that are reaped."
Allah called it Blessed Water. بركة means to maintain the goodness and increase. When the water falls down, Allah turns the earth into gardens. The people, animals, drink and benefit from it. Your food comes from the plants and the plants come from the rain. Your clothes and animals and the gardens all come from the rain. And the gardens have different colored and tasting fruits and vegetables. And Allah mentioned the grain; there are more than 100 types of rice. That is why Allah called the rain blessed. And this is the evidence of the great ability of Allah. He is Able to do anything.
Verse 10:
"And tall date-palms, with ranged clusters;"
Allah is asking us to look at a certain type of trees: Tall date palms. This is not a strange tree they did not know about.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘There is a kind of tree whose leaves do not fall and it is like the Muslim. Tell me what it is.’ The people mentioned different kinds of desert trees … and I said to myself, ‘It is the date palm tree,’ but I felt too shy to speak up. Then the people said, ‘Tell us what it is, O Messenger of Allaah.’ He said: ‘It is the date palm tree.’" (al-Bukhaari, 60)
The Prophet ﷺ resembled the believer with the palm tree for more than 20 or 30 reasons. The leaves of the Palm tree do not fall, the fruits are sweet, you can use dates throughout the year, the tree is strong - the wind cannot pluck it. Just like the faith in the heart of the believer.
Look and reflect over how Allah arranged the dates in clusters.
Verse 11:
"A provision for (Allah's) slaves. And We give life therewith to a dead land. Thus will be the resurrection (of the dead)."
Allah planted all these trees and fruit as a provision for His Slaves. Just as He planted these trees and vegetables, He can give you life after death.
It was narrated by Abu Hurayra that the Prophet ﷺ said:
" بين النفختين أربعون"
قالوا: يا أبا هريرة أربعون يوماً؟ قال: أبيت، قالوا: أربعون سنة؟ قال: أبيت، قالوا: أربعون شهراً؟ قال: أبيت" ويبلى كل شئ من الإنسان إلا عجب ذنبه، فيه يركب الخلق، ثم ينزل الله من السماء ماء، فينبتون كما ينبت البقل"
"Between the two Blowing of the Trumpet there will be an interval of forty."
The people said, "O Abu Hurairah! Do you mean forty days?" He said, "I cannot say anything." They said, "Do you mean forty years?" He said, "I cannot say anything." They said, "Do you mean forty months?" He said, "I cannot say anything.
The Prophet added: 'Everything of the human body will perish except the last coccyx bone (end part of the spinal cord), and from that bone Allah will reconstruct the whole body. Then Allah will send down water from the sky and people will grow like green vegetables'." [Al- Bukhari and Muslim].
Then Allah will order Israfeel to blow the trumpet so the souls will be blown into these bodies. The bodies will be different - it can take seeing Allah, the Angels, etc. Each soul will go exactly to the body it was in in this life. Then everyone will come out of the earth, and the Prophet ﷺ will be the first who comes out. Then everyone will gather for the Day of Judgement.
