Surah Qaf - Class 2 - (4/9/16)

بِسْم الله الرحمن الرحيم
2-12-1437H

-> Surah Qaf is Makiyyah. The content of Makki Surahs are different from Madani, because the Surahs in Makkah were revealed upon a disbelieving audience, whereas the Madani Surahs were revealed upon believers.

The Theme of Surah Qaf: Evidence for the Resurrection

Division of the Surah:
Part #1 - The Introduction [Denial of the Resurrection] - Verses 1-5
Part #2 - The Universal Evidence for Resurrection - Verses 6-15
Part #3 - The Resurrection of Yourself [From your origin until Paradise and Hell] - Verses 16-38
Part #4 - The Conclusion [Order to the Prophet ﷺ to be patient, the means of patience, the Resurrection, the Qur'an] - Verse 39-45

One of the means of patience is to glorify Allah before sunrise and sunset. After Fajr, sit until Shurooq remembering Allah. You were not able to go for Hajj, but hope that Allah writes 10 Hajj for you by remembering Allah until then and praying 2 Rak'ahs after.
The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Whoever prays Fajr in congregation, then sits remembering Allah until the sun has risen, then he prays two Rak'ah, then for him is the reward like that of a Hajj and Umrah." He said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Complete, complete, complete.'" [Tirmithi]

Allah began the Surah talking about the Qur'an and ended it talking about the Qur'an.

The Repeated Words in the Surah:

1) The Names of the Day of Resurrection  x3
Verse 20 -> يوم الوعيد
Verse 34 -> يوم الخلود
Verse 42 -> يوم الخروج

"And the Trumpet will be blown, that will be the Day whereof warning (had been given) (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)."

"Enter you therein in peace and security; this is a Day of eternal life!"

"The Day when they will hear As-Saihah (shout, etc.) in truth, that will be the Day of coming out (from the graves i.e. the Day of Resurrection)."

This Surah talks about the Day of Resurrection; it gives evidence that the Day of Judgement is the truth, and is going to come.

2) السماء, السماوات x3
Verse 6
Verse 9
Verses 38

"Have they not looked at the heaven above them, how We have made it and adorned it, and there are no rifts in it?"

"And We send down blessed water (rain) from the sky, then We produce therewith gardens and grain (every kind of harvests) that are reaped."

"And indeed We created the heavens and the earth and all between them in six Days and nothing of fatigue touched Us."

One of the evidences of resurrection is to look at the sky. Look at how Allah built it without pillars.

3) الأرض x4
Verse 4
Verse 7
Verse 38
Verse 44

"We know that which the earth takes of them (their dead bodies), and with Us is a Book preserved (i.e. the Book of Decrees)."

"And the earth! We have spread it out, and set thereon mountains standing firm, and have produced therein every kind of lovely growth (plants)."

"And indeed We created the heavens and the earth and all between them in six Days and nothing of fatigue touched Us."

"On the Day when the earth shall be cleft, from off them, (they will come out) hastening forth. That will be a gathering, quite easy for Us."

4) "بما يقولون" x2
Verse 39: Be patient
Verse 45: We know

"So bear with patience (O Muhammad ﷺ) all that they say, and glorify the Praises of your Lord, before the rising of the sun and before (its) setting (i.e. the Fajr, Zuhr, and 'Asr prayers)."

"We know of best what they say; and you (O Muhammad ﷺ) are not a tyrant over them (to force them to Belief). But warn by the Quran, him who fears My Threat."

Allah knows about what they are saying, you need to be patient.

5) "الموت" x4
Verse 3
Verse 11
Verse 19
Verse 43

"When we are dead and have become dust (shall we be resurrected?) That is a far return."

"A provision for (Allah's) slaves. And We give life therewith to a dead land. Thus will be the resurrection (of the dead)."

"And the stupor of death will come in truth: "This is what you have been avoiding!"

"Verily, We it is Who give life and cause death; and to Us is the final return,"

Resurrection occurs after death.

6) ذكّر ، ذكرا x3
Verse 8:
Verse 37:
Verse 45:

"An insight and a Reminder for every slave turning to Allah (i.e. the one who believes in Allah and performs deeds of His obedience, and always begs His pardon)."

"Verily, therein is indeed a reminder for him who has a heart or gives ear while he is heedful."

"We know of best what they say; and you (O Muhammad ﷺ) are not a tyrant over them (to force them to Belief). But warn by the Quran, him who fears My Threat."

Allah is reminding us in this Qur'an and through the Universal Signs. When you see the rain falling and Allah giving life to the dead earth, know that Allah will give life to you again in the same way.

7) وعيد، توعدون x5
Verse 14:
Verse 20:
Verse 28:
Verse 32:
Verse 45:

"And the dwellers of the Wood, and the people of Tubba'; everyone of them denied (their) Messengers, so My Threat took effect."

"And the Trumpet will be blown, that will be the Day whereof warning (had been given) (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)."

"Allah will say: "Dispute not in front of Me, I had already, in advance, sent you the threat."

"(It will be said): "This is what you were promised, - (it is) for those oft-returning (to Allah) in sincere repentance, and those who preserve their covenant with Allah (by obeying Him in all what He has ordered, and worship none but Allah Alone, i.e. follow Allah's Religion, Islamic Monotheism)."

"We know of best what they say; and you (O Muhammad ﷺ) are not a tyrant over them (to force them to Belief). But warn by the Quran, him who fears My Threat."

8) الحق x4
Verse 5:
Verse 14:
Verse 19:
Verse 42:

"Nay, but they have denied the truth (this Quran) when it has come to them, so they are in a confused state (can not differentiate between right and wrong)."

"And the dwellers of the Wood, and the people of Tubba'; everyone of them denied (their) Messengers, so My Threat took effect."

"And the stupor of death will come in truth: "This is what you have been avoiding!"

"The Day when they will hear As-Saihah (shout, etc.) in truth, that will be the Day of coming out (from the graves i.e. the Day of Resurrection)."

The Resurrection is truth.

9) العلم x3
Verse 4:
Verse 16:
Verse 45:

"We know that which the earth takes of them (their dead bodies), and with Us is a Book preserved (i.e. the Book of Decrees)."

"And indeed We have created man, and We know what his ownself whispers to him. And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein (by Our Knowledge)."

"We know of best what they say; and you (O Muhammad ﷺ) are not a tyrant over them (to force them to Belief). But warn by the Quran, him who fears My Threat."

Allah knows everything, even:
-> what the earth will take from us when we are dead.
-> what we whisper in ourselves, what no one knows about, even the Angels who sit on our shoulders.
-> what they say. Do not grieve at what they say, Allah knows.

Knowing that Allah knows is a relief during the calamity. Hajar, for example. She agreed to stay in the middle of the desert when she knew that Allah knows about her. Allah knew and would not leave her.

The more you know about the Perfect Attributes of Allah the more you will be relieved. The more you will repel the doubts of the Shaytan. The Shaytan is your enemy and knows about you more than yourself. He knows what weakens you and causes you fear, so he attacks you in those areas. Seek refuge in Allah from the Shaytan. Sometimes the Shaytan paralyzes the slave with fear; always whispering.
