The Importance of Learning about Allah / Tawheed

1) The entire Religion of Islam is based on Tawheed.
Tawheed means لا اله الا الله, and لا اله الا الله means Tawheed. The entire Religion of Islam is based on Tawheed; A person will not be considered a مؤمن (Believer) without لا اله الا الله.

2) A person will not be kept firm in his grave without it.
We will be asked three questions in our grave. The person will not be kept firm in answering these questions unless he knows who Allah is, who the Prophet ﷺ is, and what his religion is.

3) Allah sent Messengers to call the people to Tawheed and to teach the people about Allah.
All the Messengers from Nuh عليه السلام until the Prophet ﷺ called their people to Tawheed. Therefore it is the duty of all preachers to call their people to Tawheed. Make your focus Tawheed and who Allah is; repeat this matter again and again to the people. This is the most important topic you need to focus on all the time.

The Prophet ﷺ stayed in Makkah for 13 years; 10 of which he spent calling people to worship Allah alone - to Tawheed.

We have to call the people to Tawheed, because if Tawheed is established in the hearts of the people, all their affairs will be good and they will carry out every command of Allah.
If you teach your child from the age of 4 who Allah is, when they become 7 and you tell them to pray, they will pray. You have already told them who Allah, whom they are praying to is. But if you neglect your duty of telling them who Allah is, no matter how much you tell them to pray they will not. When they become teenagers they will starting questioning why they should pray, etc. It is because we fell into shortcomings regarding telling our children who Allah is.

4) Tawheed is the basis for the acceptance of deeds.
Deeds will not be accepted until it is based on Tawheed. In [14:24-25]:

"See you not how Allah sets forth a parable? - A goodly word as a goodly tree, whose root is firmly fixed, and its branches (reach) to the sky (i.e. very high)."

"Giving its fruit at all times, by the Leave of its Lord and Allah sets forth parables for mankind in order that they may remember."

Allah set forth a parable for the كلمة طيبة which is لا اله الا الله. Allah likened it to a tree - the description of which is:

-> Its roots are firmly fixed in the ground. And these roots represent the conditions of لا اله الا الله:
1) Knowledge
2) Certainty
3) Acceptance
4) Submission
5) Truthfulness
6) Sincerity
7) Love

-> Its branches extend high in the sky. These represent the actions of the heart and limbs, as well as the utterances of the person. They extend high to the sky and Allah accepts these deeds.

-> This tree gives fruits all the time. And this represents the reward that the person gets.

5) Tawheed makes a person upright and perfects ones conduct

Point #1 - The entire Religion of Islam is based on Tawheed.

Tawheed is derived from the words واحد، أحد. It revolves around وحدنية; meaning that we should believe that Allah is the One true God and no one else. As Allah says in [112:1]:

"Say (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)): "He is Allah, (the) One."

We need to single Allah out in His Lordship, Worship, and in His Names and Attributes.

1) Singling Allah out in His Ruboobiya (توحيد الربوبية)
Allah is the only ربّ - He is the Only One who Created, He is the Only One who provides with sustenance; with what we need for our existence in life, He is the Only One who nurtures us with His Blessings.
We need to repeat this piece of information to ourselves. There should no be feelings in our heart that anyone other than Allah creates, provides, nurtures us, or manages our affairs.

Every time we look around us and see any of Allahs creation, whether they are humans, birds, the sky, we should talk to ourselves and say, 'Allah created and no one else.' in order to strengthen this aspect of Tawheed in your heart.

Whenever you go through any situation say, 'No one is managing my life except Allah, no one is disposing my affairs except Allah.
You plan and somethings contrary to what you planned happens. You say, "This is the أمر الله, Allah يدبر الأمر. Allah knows and I do not know. Allah is the only One who gives, prevents, guides, humiliates, honours, and no one else."

The Ruboobiya of Allah is not something separate to our lives; it is connected to every minute detail of it. But how much do we feel it? When something contrary to what we like happens we accuse and blame people, forgetting that Allah is the One managing our lives. We only focus on the people, as if they are the ones giving, preventing, and disposing the affairs. We know that Allah is the One managing our lives, but how much do we act upon this knowledge?

Tawheed Ar-Ruboobiya is the foundation of our Tawheed, we live it daily. If Tawheed Ar-Ruboobiya is correct, accordingly our Tawheed Al-Uloohiya will become correct. If you see that your acts of worship are not correct, you have to look into your Tawheed Ruboobiya.  So in order that our faith is not fragile and fades away when we go through the tiniest situations, we have to strengthen our Tawheed Ruboobiya.

Every day we say in Surah Nas:

"Say: "I seek refuge with (Allah) the Lord of mankind,"

Allah is رب الناس - The One who Created Man, the One who gives Man Sustenance, the One who provides them with what they need, the One who nurtures them with blessings. This should result with love in your heart for Allah.

"The King of mankind"
ملك الناس - The King is the One who disposes our affairs and the affairs of the whole dominion, enjoins laws upon us and takes us into account for what we do. This should make you feel Magnification in your heart for Allah.

Therefore Allah says:

"The Ilah (God) of mankind"

إله الناس - This is the One whom you Love and Magnfiy: the one whom you worship. This is what Uloohiyah is:

2) The One whom you worship out love and magnification
Allah did not mention it in this sequence in vain.

The Muwwahid believes in the Ruboobiya of Allah and his heart is filled with remembrance of Allah. Even if he forgets sometimes through association with the people, as soon as he is reminded, he goes back to Tawheed.

He thinks and looks into the impacts of Allahs actions. He sees Allahs Management in the Universe and in his life. He looks into the sky and sees dark clouds. People say that it will rain soon, yet the clouds pass without one drop of rain. He will say, "Allah is the One Managing these clouds, He gives and prevents and no one else." We see this so many times, yet we do not attribute it to Allah.

If you read the Quran you will find that Allah mentions the sun, moon, the alternation of the day and night profusely. Allah attracts our attention to these great creations of His, which point to their great Creator. Look - who manages these great creation? Who makes the sun rise, reach full strength, then decline. Does this not indicate Allahs ability in Resurrection? Everything in this life goes through the same cycle: They are born weak, then attain full strength, then they become weak until they die.bAllah tells us this fact in many verses in the Qur'an, in order for our hearts to not be attached to this world, and to be prepared for the hereafter.

When you ponder over the actions if Allah, the word لا اله الا الله will truly come out of your tongue. It will not come out truly unless you first think and reflect - That no One does these actions except Allah. And then you will be rewarded for your لا اله الا الله. Because even the hypocrites say لا اله الا الله.

We need to be reminded of Tawheed again and again. Whenever you go to your people and countries do not let your time pass without telling the people who Allah is and talking about Tawheed Ruboobiya. This is a duty upon us.

Millions pray in the Haram. After the Imam says "و لضالئن" these millions say Ameen. You may not hear the one next to you, but Allah hears the Ameen of these millions. He knows who was خاشع, who was half aware, and who is a hypocrite. He hears them all and knows what is in all their hearts. This indicates Allahs greatness, but we have to reflect and think.

When the heart thinks in this way it indicates that this heart is moving in the correct direction and is a healthy, sound heart.

The true Tawheed is not the one we write in the notebooks, but the Tawheed we live in accordance to. It is not what you write and memorize, it is about how much you live it in your life. It is this Tawheed which will make your scale heavy on the Day of Judgement - the Tawheed which purifies your soul and changes you.

E.g. In [18:14]: - The People of the Cave

"And We made their hearts firm and strong (with the light of Faith in Allah and bestowed upon them patience to bear the separation of their kith and kin and dwellings, etc.) when they stood up and said: "Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, never shall we call upon any ilah (god) other than Him; if we did, we should indeed have uttered an enormity in disbelief."

" إذ قاموا"
This means  عزم (They resolved)

"ربنا رب السماوات و الارض"
Allah never mentioned that a Prophet came to them. But how did they believe? What made them reach the conclusion that the One who created us, provides us with sustenance, manages our lives is the same Lord of the Heavens and Earth?
When they looked around them they saw that although people died, the universe still continued in a perfect system. The sun still rises and sets, the rain still falls down. Generations come and go and yet the universe still goes in its perfect systematic way. Obviously it is not the people providing, the one who disposes and controls the whole universe is the one providing for us also. This is how they reached the conclusion our رب is the same one who manages the whole universe.

This is Tawheed Ruboobiya. Because their Tawheed Ruboobiya was correct, it led them to say:

"لن ندعوا من دونه من إلها"
He is the only One who deserves to be invoked and worshipped. Tawheed alUloohiyah.

No Prophets came to them but they were guided. They used the فطرة (Natural Disposition) which Allah gave them - their فطرة which says that every event has a Creator, and this Creator did not create except for a purpose, and this Creator should be Perfect. They looked into the Universe and found that Allah is الحكيم - He puts everything in the right place. They saw great creations and concluded that the Creator must be Great. This Creator knows what the creation needs and provides, He is العليم. He is القدير - Able to do everything. They concluded this by just reflecting over the Universe.

We should do the same thing. This faith which we inherit from our parents will not benefit us. We have to renew our faith and Tawheed in order to be kept firm in our graves

إيمان العادة و المربى - Our parents brought us up on certain aspects of Eeman. This will not benefit until you yourself think, admits, confesses.

E.g. In [21:30-33]:

"Have not those who disbelieve known that the heavens and the earth were joined together as one united piece, then We parted them? And We have made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?"

ففتقناهما - Allah is the One who Seperated the Heavens and Earth
جعلنا - Allah Created every living creature from Water.

"And We have placed on the earth firm mountains, lest it should shake with them, and We placed therein broad highways for them to pass through, that they may be guided."

جعلنا - Allah is the One who made Mountains on the Earth lest it shakes
جعلنا - Allah made between the mountains roads in order for people to pass

Connect what you see in the Universe with what you read in the Qur'an.

"And We have made the heaven a roof, safe and well guarded. Yet they turn away from its signs (i.e. sun, moon, winds, clouds, etc.)."

جعلنا - Allah protected the Heavens

"And He it is Who has created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon, each in an orbit floating."

خلق - Allah is the One who created the night, the day, the sun, the moon.

Has anyone among the creation claimed that they can perform these actions? Allah is the One who does it and no one else. And when you know this, it should make you love Allah and attribute every blessing to Allah. But this only comes after thinking and reflecting.
