Day 9: Surah Al-Hajj - (11/9/16) - Verses 69 to 74

9-12-1437

Allah ordained rituals for every nation to follow - so do not let anyone argue you with you. Continue on your way to Allah. But if they argue, you should tell them that Allah is the All-Knower of what they are doing. Believing in the Knowledge of Allah can prevent arguing.

Hajj is once in a lifetime, but it is a great reformation. It teaches you to make your goal Allah. You are around millions of people, with various rituals and decrees, but you need to gather your heart and focus on Allah.

When Allah sent Messengers to their people, the people divided into two groups:
1) People who accept and follow the guidance from Allah
2) People who do not accept the guidance

We find this in Hajj as well;- there are people who submit to the instructions, and there are people who argue. Do not let anyone who disputes or argue affect you, and believe:

Verse 69:

"Allah will judge between you on the Day of Resurrection about that wherein you used to differ."

You do not have to always dispute with the one who disputes with you. Continue on your way and believe that Allah will judge between you all on the Day of Judgement. Gather your heart and make your قصد إلى الله. Concentrate on your task. We should keep this in mind whether we are in Hajj or in life.

Knowing that Allah is the only Judge makes it easy for us. Even if you are doing anything and people are judging you, you will not care.

Verse 70:

"Know you not that Allah knows all that is in heaven and on earth? Verily, it is (all) in the Book (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). Verily! That is easy for Allah."

Allah encompasses everything by His Knowledge; There is nothing hidden from Allah. He knows the hidden and apparent matters. We only hear and know what is apparent, that is why we cannot judge others. Allah is the only Judge because He knows the hidden matters as well. He is العليم - He knew about everything before it was created.

"إنّ ذالك في كتاب"
Then Allah wrote this Knowledge, of what will happen, in a Book - The Preserved Tablet.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"إِنَّ أَوَّلَ مَا خَلَقَ اللَّهُ الْقَلَمَ فَقَالَ لَهُ اكْتُبْ . قَالَ رَبِّ وَمَاذَا أَكْتُبُ قَالَ اكْتُبْ مَقَادِيرَ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ حَتَّى تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ "
"The first thing Allah created was the pen. He said to it: Write. It asked: What should I write, my Lord? He said: Write what was decreed about everything till the Last Hour comes." [Sunan Abi Dawud]

"إنّ ذللك على الله يسير"
It is so easy for Allah to write it. And everything that happens is exactly what is written in The Preserved Tablet, even though it was written 50,000 years before the creation of the heavens and earth. No one can change this book, replace it, add into it, or decrease it - because it is Preserved. Your judgement on the Day of Judgement will not be according to The Preserved Tablet, but according to your record which the Angels on your left and right shoulder have written. But everything these Angels have written are in The Preserved Tablet already.

This is Belief in the Qadar, which is made up of four ranks:
1) Knowledge
2) Writing
3) Will
4) Creation

We need to believe in the Qadar, especially in Hajj. With anything that happens, Allah knew about it and wrote it, so do not argue about it, submit to Allah.

Leave the people for the Lord of the People. He is the only Judge and He is the All-Knower. When you judge others, your goal is not Allah, because your heart is distracted with that. You do not know the winner or the failures, only Allah knows. Just focus on Allah.

Verse 71:

"And they worship besides Allah others for which He has sent down no authority, and of which they have no knowledge and for the Zalimun (wrong-doers, polytheists and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah) there is no helper."

Allah then speaks about the case of the Mushrikeen - who are in the worst of cases. They have no evidence for what they are doing, because they have no knowledge. They have no basis or foundation. They are merely imitating their forefathers.

We should be thankful for the Qur'an. We have concrete evidence to stand on which does not change, so we do not get distracted with different opinions and ways.

"ما لم ينزّل به سلطاناً"
No one other than Allah has any authority; they cannot harm nor benefit. If you want anything, you should only ask the One who has Authority.

"و ما ليس له به علم"
They are performing things without authority nor knowledge. Everything they are doing will be a waste, because they are just blindly following.

Hajj is the قصد to Allah. We need to focus, make our concern Allah. We are heading to Allah - so we should hope from Him, fear Him, attach our hearts to Him alone. He should be the main goal in our life.
In this verse Allah is mentioning a group of people whose قصد is wrong - they are heading to something wrong and fake; with no authority nor knowledge.

"و ما للظالمين من نّصير"
Allah called these people ظالم - because they are not putting things in its right place. You are leaving the Creator and worshipping the creation. You are leaving The Rich and going to the poor. You are leaving the Mighty and going to those who are humiliated.
لا اله الا الله is good for us. Do not attach your heart to anyone other than Allah. And do not think that when your heart is attached to anyone other than Allah, it will affect Allah, or decrease His Kingdom. He is الصمد - He is Solid. No one can influence, affect Him, or reach Him with any type of harm. Your لا اله الا الله is good for you. If you are doing ظلم, you are doing it against yourself.

And no one can help the ظالمين when they need help. We will always go through situations of need - in this world and the next. As for the believer, who puts everything in its place, Allah will be sufficient for him as a Guardian and Helper. But there is no helper for the ظالمين, and this is because of their ظلم. Allah will not help him because he does not deserve help.

Verse 72:

"And when Our Clear Verses are recited to them, you will notice a denial on the faces of the disbelievers! They are nearly ready to attack with violence those who recite Our Verses to them. Say: "Shall I tell you of something worse than that? The Fire (of Hell) which Allah has promised to those who disbelieve, and worst indeed is that destination!"

"و إذا تتلى عليهم ءاياتنا بينات"
Allah will make everyone hear His clear verses, and it will be recited again and again, to guide them. And this is out of the Mercy of Allah. But what is their reaction?

"تعرف في وجوه الذين كفروا المنكر"
You will recognize a denial on their faces. The reaction will be shown on their faces. They hate the truth so much, so what is in their heart appears on the face.
The person who disbelieves in Allah is not only the person who argues with his tongue.

"يكادون يسطون بالذين يتلون عليهم ءاياتنا"
They are actually almost - but cant - attack those who are reciting Allahs verses. They are almost about to explode. Allah knows the unseen.
Why do you want to attack the people who are reciting it? We need to look at the ءايات  as from Allah, not the people. This gives you purity of the heart. When you connect it with people, you will judge their intentions, etc. It is not about the outer appearance - merely performing the outer rituals. Its about your heart - it should be focused and connected with Allah.
Take whatever Allah gives you, and be grateful. Do not see anyone except Allah - He is the One dealing with you.

We lose hope from ourselves, because we cannot hope from someone who is weak, and poor, and who will die. But we hope in Allah.

"قل أفأنبئكم بشر ذالكم النار وعدها الله الذين كفروا و بئس المصير"
The state of the disbelievers in the Dunya is the worst of states. But Allah informs us of something even worse - The Hellfire which Allah has promised those who disbelieve.

Verse 73:

"O mankind! A similitude has been coined, so listen to it (carefully): Verily! Those on whom you call besides Allah, cannot create (even) a fly, even though they combine together for the purpose. And if the fly snatched away a thing from them, they would have no power to release it from the fly. So weak are (both) the seeker and the sought."

"يأيها الناس"
Allah is addressing all people. This is mentioned many times in Surah Hajj.

"ضرب مثل"
From the beginning of the Surah, Allah emphasizes that your قصد (Goal) should be Allah. And He sets forth a Parable in this verse to make it clear.
So what should you do?

"فاستمعوا له" - Listen attentively to it.
Give ear and heart to it. Do not let this parable reach closed ears or a heedless heart.
Even if you are a believer and already know لا اله الا الله, this parable will increase you in faith. As for the disbelievers, this parable is a proof against them.

"إن الذين تدعون من دون الله"
Allah set forth a parable for what other people invoke others besides Allah. Allah shows us how disabled and worthless they are; which is why we should not attach our hearts to them, worship them, invoke them.

"لن يخلقوا ذُبَابًا و لو اجتمعوا له"
They cannot even create something as small as a fly, which is of the tiniest and dirtiest creatures, even if they gathered together to do so. So why are you invoking that which cannot even create a fly?

In Surah AlBaqarah [2:26]:

"Verily, Allah is not ashamed to set forth a parable even of a mosquito or so much more when it is bigger (or less when it is smaller) than it. And as for those who believe, they know that it is the Truth from their Lord, but as for those who disbelieve, they say: "What did Allah intend by this parable?" By it He misleads many, and many He guides thereby. And He misleads thereby only those who are Al-Fasiqun (the rebellious, disobedient to Allah)."

"و إنّ يسلبهم الذبابّ شيئا لا يستنقذوه منه"
And if the fly takes anything, you will not be able to take back what they took. If any other animal snatches something you can take it back from them.

Why are you worshipping someone who cannot create a small thing? If they cannot create small things, they will never be able to create big things. Then they are not worthy of your worship.
And if the fly takes anything from them, they will not be able to help themselves. So why are you worshipping them? Everyone other than Allah is worthless and helpless.

"ضعف الطالب و المطلوب"
Both the seeker and the sought are weak.

Verse 74:
"They have not estimated Allah His Rightful Estimate; Verily, Allah is All-Strong, All-Mighty."

People who leave the King and go behind one who is weak and a slave underestimate the Greatness of Allah.

No matter how much we talk about Allah, we can never give Him a just estimate, because الله أكبر. The Prophet ﷺ would say in a supplication:
لاَ أُحْصِي ثَنَاءً عَلَيْكَ أَنْتَ كَمَا أَثْنَيْتَ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ
"...I cannot count Your praises. You are as You have praised Yourself.." [Tirmithi #3493]

No matter how much worship you do, do not be proud of your worship. We will never be able to give Allah His due estimate. This humbles you. His Reward is greater than what we do, His Forgiveness is greater than all the sins we commit. He is Greater than anything great in our lives. We just need to attach our hearts to Him.

"إن الله لقوي عزيز"
Allah is Powerful. Out of His Power, He holds the heavens and earth from moving from its places. Out of His Power, He will resurrect all the people with a single shout. Out of His Power, He sees everyone at the same time, hears everyone at the same time, and responds to everyone. Out of His Power, He destroyed all the previous nations, who thought they had power. That is why one of the treasures of Paradise is Do not be deceived with your strength or power. Your test is not on how strong you are, but how much you attach yourself to and rely on the Most Powerful. We need Allah to give us power to fight the Shaytan, to fight our enemies, to dedicate our lives for Him.

And Allah is The Almighty. Whatever He wants will happen, even if it is against peoples will and wishes. If Allah Humiliates anyone, no one can give him honour. No one can encompass His Might. If you want might and honour, ask The Almighty, and Allah will give it to you.
