Verse 25:
"Verily! Those who disbelieve and hinder (men) from the Path of Allah, and from Al-Masjid-al-Haram (at Makkah) which We have made (open) to (all) men, the dweller in it and the visitor from the country are equal there [as regards its sanctity and pilgrimage (Hajj and 'Umrah)]. And whoever inclines to evil actions therein or to do wrong (i.e. practise polytheism and leave Islamic Monotheism), him We shall cause to taste a painful torment."
"إن الذين كفروا و يصدّون عن سبيل الله و المسجد الحرام الذي جعلناه لِلنَّاس سواءً العاكف فيه و الباد"
Those who disbelieve try to hinder people from the Praiseworthy Path; from the way to Allah. They prevent people from faith and from going to Masjid Al-Haram, although it is for everyone and they do not own it.
E.g. They say, "If you go there such and such will happen" and as a result people get scared and abstain from going. Do not be a means preventing people from the way of Allah and Masjid Al-Haram.
"و من يرد فيه باإلحاد بظلم نّذقه من عذاب إليم"
Allah said that whoever intends to do mischief or any kind of deviation at Masjid Al-Haram, Allah will make him taste a painful punishment. It is a sacred place and people are in a sacred state, we need to be extra cautious when we are there.
Verse 26:
"And (remember) when We showed Ibrahim (Abraham) the site of the (Sacred) House (the Ka'bah at Makkah) (saying): "Associate not anything (in worship) with Me, [La ilaha ill-Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah Islamic Monotheism], and sanctify My House for those who circumambulate it, and those who stand up for prayer, and those who bow (submit themselves with humility and obedience to Allah), and make prostration (in prayer, etc.);"
"و إذ بوّأنا لإبراهيم مكان البيت"
Allah assigned Ibrahim عليه السلام to raise the foundation of the Ka'bah.
"لا تشرك بي شيئا"
He and his son Ismaeel built the House with sincerity and in the Name of Allah. And Allah commanded them to not commit the worst of sins - Shirk.
"طهّر بيتي "
Allah then commanded them to purify His House.
Purification is through two ways:
1) Inside - By not committing Shirk
2) Outside
Allah called it "بيتي" (My House) in order to honour it. Allah magnified it, so we should magnify it in our hearts.
"للطائفين و القائمين و الركع السجود"
It is important that the place where worship is performed is pure. It will affect the worship of those who worship there. And purifying and magnifying the places of worship is indicative of your magnification of Allah.
Verse 27:
"And proclaim to mankind the Hajj (pilgrimage). They will come to you on foot and on every lean camel, they will come from every deep and distant (wide) mountain highway (to perform Hajj)."
"و أذٌن النَّاس بالحجّ"
Allah commanded Ibrahim عليه السلام, the father of the Messengers, to proclaim the Hajj to mankind - whether obligatory or voluntary Hajj. Purification comes first, then you make the announcement. And Allah took care of fulfilling this commandment.
It was said that Ibrahim said: "O Lord, how can I convey this to people when my voice will not reach them'' It was said: "Call them and We will convey it.'' So Ibrahim stood up and said, "O mankind! Your Lord has established a House so come on pilgrimage to it.'' It is said that the mountains lowered themselves so that his voice would reach all the regions of the earth, and those who were still in their mothers' wombs and their fathers' loins would hear the call. The response came from everyone in the cities, deserts and countryside, and those whom Allah has decreed will make the pilgrimage, until the Day of Resurrection: "At Your service, O Allah, at Your service.' [Ibn Kathir]
It is not you. You just make Da'wah and do what is required from you, and Allah will carry your voice to all the nations and generations until the Day of Judgement. Whoever is going to Hajj is in reality answering the call of Ibrahim عليه السلام. And this teaches us not to allow the lack of means to be an obstacle. Just because there are no people, it does not mean you should not do any goodness. Race to do good deeds even if there is no one around. Plant the seed and Allah will make it spread and grow in the future. Sometimes you may say a word, and Allah is able to make that word reach so many people, if you have a good intention. Just be sincere.
"يأتوك رجالا و على كل ضامر يأتين من كلّ فج عميق"
People will go for Hajj on feet, on tired camels, coming from every deep and distant mountain highway. All these people have one wish - to go for Hajj. This brings out magnification of Allah in your heart.
There are people who eat and drink simple food for years, just to save money to go for Hajj.
Verse 28:
"That they may witness things that are of benefit to them (i.e. reward of Hajj in the Hereafter, and also some worldly gain from trade, etc.), and mention the Name of Allah on appointed days (i.e. 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th day of Dhul-Hijjah), over the beast of cattle that He has provided for them (for sacrifice) (at the time of their slaughtering by saying: Bismillah, WAllahu-Akbar, Allahumma Minka wa Ilaik). Then eat thereof and feed therewith the poor who have a very hard time."
What are the goals of Hajj?
Those who go for Hajj, come through different ways and from different places, so that:
1) "ليشهدوا منافع لهم"
They witness what benefits them. And this includes both worldly and religious benefits. Hajj is a reformation.
E.g. Selling, buying, meeting people, teaching you your faults and sicknesses. You are out of your comfort zone, so it teaches you to look at the Dunya through a different perspective, it shows you your reality and the reality of this world. It removes arrogance from your heart, makes you humble.
To remember Allah in the appointed days. And this is of what benefits. Everyone around you is magnifying and remembering Allah.
This is the best training. When you remember Allah during a busy season, it will help you remember Allah during normal days.
"على ما رزقهم من بهيمة الأنعام"
When you slaughter you remember Allah. You say "الله آكبر". You have power over this camel and spent your money on it, but "الله أكبر". It is Allah who gave you the money and you have no real power. You slaughter out of your gratitude and magnification of Allah.
Verse 29:
"Then let them complete the prescribed duties (Manasik of Hajj) for them, and perform their vows, and circumambulate the Ancient House (the Ka'bah at Makkah)."
"ثمّ ليقضوا تفثهم"
Then let them fulfill and complete all the prescribed rituals, clean themselves and come out of Ihram.
"وليوفوا نذورهم"
And fulfill any vows and oaths.
"وليطّوّقوا بالبيت العتيق"
And make the finishing Tawaf around the Ancient House (The Ka'bah).
Verse 30:
"That (Manasik prescribed duties of Hajj is the obligation that mankind owes to Allah), and whoever honours the sacred things of Allah, then that is better for him with his Lord. The cattle are lawful to you, except those (that will be) mentioned to you (as exceptions). So shun the abomination (worshipping) of idol, and shun lying speech (false statements)"
"ذالك"
"That" - All the aforementioned
"و من يُعَظِّم حرمات الله فهو خير له عند ربه"
Allah made the place, time, and condition sacred. We should magnify what Allah magnifies. Allah told us all the above rules in order to magnify Him and accordingly magnify what He magnifies.
And this magnification is good for us. We are the ones who benefit from it. Allah loves and appreciates when you magnify and exalt what He made sacred; when you magnify this Pillar of Islam, when you magnify the House of Allah, etc.
"و أُحِلَّت لكم الأَنْعَام إلا ما يتلى عليكم"
Allah made the cattle lawful for us, and it is one of the rituals of Hajj. There are so many physical actions; walking, running, throwing, slaughtering, eating. Hajj teaches us that it is not just about the physical actions, it is about worshipping Allah through all of them. It is all about being a Slave of Allah; doing everything for Allah.
And the fact that Allah made the cattle lawful is a favour from Allah and a mercy for us.
"فاجتنبوا الرِّجْس من الأوثان"
You need to protect yourself by avoiding all Shirk.
"واجتنبوا قول الزُّور"
And avoiding all bad and evil speech.
Hajj is a reformation, for your heart, tongue, etc.
