الحج means القصد
Surah Al-Hajj is about القصد إلى الله and the role of Hajj in building a Nation.

Allah presents two proofs for the Day of Judgement: The Origin of our Creation and Giving Life to the Dead Earth with Rain because and to show us that:
Verse 6:
"That is because Allah, He is the Truth, and it is He Who gives life to the dead, and it is He Who is Able to do all things."
1) "أنّ الله هو الحق" - Allah is the True God. Worshipping Him is the Truth and worshipping other than Him is Falsehood
2) "و أنّه يحي الموتى" - He is the One who gives life to the dead
3) "و أنّه على كلّ شيء قدير" - and Allah is Able to do everything.
Verse 7:
"And surely, the Hour is coming, there is no doubt about it, and certainly, Allah will resurrect those who are in the graves."
4) "و أنّ السَّاعَة ءاتية لا ريب فيها" - The Day of Judgement is coming and there is no doubt about it.
5) "و أنّ الله يبعث من في القبور" - And Allah will resurrect those who are in their graves. He will not just give them life, He will resurrect them for accounting and recompense.
Most people who go for Hajj have read a book on Hajj, but not Surah Al-Hajj. We should go to the Qur'an first, and it will make a difference. When everyones goal is Allah, this will upgrade and reform the entire nation.
Verse 8:
"And among men is he who disputes about Allah, without knowledge or guidance, or a Book giving light (from Allah)"
Arguing demolishes and destroys a nation. We need to practice Taqwa and prevent ourselves from following our desires and arguing with each other.
"و من الناس من يجادل "
This is the second group of people in this Surah. The first group were followers, this group are the heads - those who start the argument and lead it.
"في الله"
They argue concerning Allah
"بغير"
And they argue without:
1) علم - Knowledge
2) هدى - Guidance
3) كتاب منير - A Book giving Light
They do not want to follow the truth. They argue for the sake of their desires, and do not have knowledge, guidance, nor a clear book. They do not have an excuse, it is just the Shaytan that whispers into them and makes them argue.
Verse 9:
"Bending his neck in pride (far astray from the Path of Allah), and leading (others) too (far) astray from the Path of Allah. For him there is disgrace in this worldly life, and on the Day of Resurrection We shall make him taste the torment of burning (Fire)."
"ثانى عطفه"
This person is arrogant. He bends his neck out of pride and is happy with himself for putting the truth and the people down. This is the description of the person who disputes without any guidance.
"ليضل عن سبيل الله"
He invites people to misguidance. He is the Leader of Falsehood.
You will find these type of people in Hajj, and you will find these type of people in life.
"له في الدنيا خزي"
He wanted to be the top, so Allah recompensed him with the opposite of what he wanted. Allah will disgrace the person who argues for the sake of putting himself up.
"و نذيقه يوم القيامة عذاب الحريق"
And on the Day of Judgement he will face the torment of Hellfire.
Verse 10:
"That is because of what your hands have sent forth, and verily, Allah is not unjust to (His) slaves."
When Allah punished him in this world and next, He was not unfair. It is the person who did this to himself.
From Verses 11-13 Allah mentions the Third Group of People:
Verse 11:
"And among mankind is he who worships Allah as it were, upon the very edge (i.e. in doubt); if good befalls him, he is content therewith; but if a trial befalls him, he turns back on his face (i.e. reverts back to disbelief after embracing Islam). He loses both this world and the Hereafter. That is the evident loss."
"و من الناس من يعبد الله على حرف"
This group of people are shy, they do not argue. But they worship Allah on edge; anything that happens can cause them to fall.
How does a person worship Allah on edge?
"فإن أصابه خير اطمأنّ به"
If good happens he is at rest, stable, performing good deeds. It is not faith that keeps him firm and stable, but the situation. But situations change, so:
"و إن أصابته فتنة انقلب على وجه"
When a trial strikes him, he turns back on his face.
When your faith is weak, you will be at the edge.
"خسر الدنيا و الآخرة"
If you are thrown away from obedience to Allah, you have lost this world and the next.
"ذالك هو الخسران المبين"
And that is the clear loss.
Verse 12:
"He calls besides Allah unto that which hurts him not, nor profits him. That is a straying far away."
"يدعوا من دون الله ما لا يضرَّه و مالا ينفعه"
When there is a problem, he runs to anyone other than Allah, and calls those who do not have the ability to harm nor benefit him.
"ذالك هو الضّلال البعيد"
When you turn away from Allah and call others during hardship that is a far far misguidance.
In both Hajj and life you go through decrees and situations. When your goal is Allah and the Day of Judgement is in front of your eyes, you will submit and surrender to Him and be firm in all situations.
Verse 13:
"He calls unto him whose harm is nearer than his profit; certainly, and evil Maula (patron) and certainly an evil friend!"
"يدعوا لمن ضره أقرب من نّفعه"
Invoking other than Allah is closer to harming you than benefitting. It will harm your brain, body, heart, in this world, and in the next.
All the three above groups follow their desires and do not practice Taqwa. In order to solve these problems and avoid falling into any of the three categories, remember the Day of Judgement.
Verse 14:
"Truly, Allah will admit those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds (according to the Quran and the Sunnah) to Gardens underneath which rivers flow (in Paradise). Verily, Allah does what He wills."
"إن الله يدخل الذين ءامنوا و عملوا الصَّالِحَات"
This is the fourth group, and the successful group. They are those who:
1) Believe
2) And do righteous good deeds
Their goal is Allah.
Those who argue do not perform good deeds, and those on the edge have weak belief.
"جَنَّات تجري من تحتها الأنهار"
Allah will admit this group to Paradise; Gardens under which rivers flow.
"إنّ الله يفعل ما يريد"
Allah wants the people of Paradise to enter Paradise. No one can object or prevent it from happening.
Notice that when Allah mentioned the successful group He mentioned them in plural, and the rest in singular. This builds an Ummah.
Verse 15:
"Whoever thinks that Allah will not help him (Muhammad ﷺ) in this world and in the Hereafter, let him stretch out a rope to the ceiling and let him strangle himself. Then let him see whether his plan will remove that whereat he rages!"
"من كان يظن أن لّن ينصره الله في الدُّنْيَا و الأخرة"
Victory comes from Allah.
Whoever thinks that Allah will not give victory to the Religion, to the Prophet ﷺ, to the believers and those who are on the straight path, Allah tells him to stretch out a rope to the ceiling.
This example is as if to say: No matter how much they plot and strive, it will never prevent victory, nor will it even help them diffuse their anger. So why are they wasting their energy?
And you, O Believer, continue your way to Allah, do not worry about the enemies who are angry and plotting nor about the obstacles on your way.
