Day 3 - 8/6/16 - لا اله الا الله in the Qur'an - Surah Aal-Imran Verse 18

بِسْم الله الرحمن الرحيم

افضل الذكر (The Best of Remembrance) is لا اله الا الله because it has the name of Allah.

On the Day of Judgement, Allah will take out of the Hellfire anyone who said لا اله الا الله, even if he just had an atoms weight worth of faith in his heart. لا اله الا الله intercedes for the person, and it shows us how much Allah appreciates the one who says it.

Last class we spoke about the beginning of Surat Aal-Imran:

Verse 2:

"Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists."

We learnt who الحي القيوم is. There is no one like Allah; no one can resemble Him. There is no one whom we should attach ourselves to with love and magnification, except الحي القيوم.

Verse 6:
"He it is Who shapes you in the wombs as He pleases. La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the All-Mighty, the All-Wise."

The One whom we attach ourselves to is العزيز. He's Almighty. No one can resist Him. Whatever He wills will happen. If the entire creation willed for something to happen, and He willed otherwise, His will will happen. And whatever He wills is in accordance to His wisdom.

-----------------

In Verse 18:

"Allah bears witness that La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), and the angels, and those having knowledge (also give this witness); (He is always) maintaining His creation in Justice. La ilah illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the All-Mighty, the All-Wise."

 "شَهِدَ  "

This means testimony. This means that you have knowledge which reaches the point of certainty, until it's as if you're able to see it with your own eyes. Until you witness the knowledge.

Nobody can see Allah, nobody can hear Him. But we still say ‘Ash hadu an laa Ilaaha Illa Allah’ .

Who witnesses the testification?

1. Allah Himself.

2. The Angels.

3. The People of Knowledge

It's a great honor for the Angel to witness the same thing which Allah witnessed. And it is an even greater honor for the People of Knowledge to witness that which Allah and His Angels witnessed.

Allah witnesses لا اله الا الله

How does Allah witness Himself? It makes sense that He makes us witness Him, because we get a reward and it’s an honor for us.

For this you will find the name of Allah المؤمن. This means in order to make people to believe in Him, Allah verifies Himself to the people by witnessing Himself, and this is the best kind of witnessing.

How does Allah witness لا اله الا الله?

-> Through the ءايات
Whatever Allah in showing you in the universe, like the sun, the moon, the stars, the rain, the day, the night, the vegetation..etc are all evidences of لا اله آلِا الله
Everything you see around you are all Ayaat of Allah... And His signs are not just limited in the universe, it could also be in your life, in yourself and in the people around you.

E.g. Someone suddenly starts being nice to you, you don’t start to wonder why, what happened? These are the signs of Allah. What made her change? Its لا اله الا الله.
Who made it rain today? لا اله الا الله
All these changes going through in our life, situations changing every day, are all a witness of Allah on لا اله الا الله.

-> Through the Blessings of Allah upon us
Another way through which Allah witnesses لا اله الا الله is through the constant blessings He showers us with. And one cannot give thanks to big blessings if he isn't grateful to Allah for the small blessings. When you enjoy blessings, know Allah is witnessing لا اله الا الله through them.

-> Through protecting us from harm and averting calamities
Allah shows us that no one can protect us and avert calamity except Him. When the people are in the middle of a test and are cut off from all the worldly means and nobody can save them, Allah will make them witness that Only only One who can protect them from this harm is Allah alone. And this is a witness of لا اله الا الله from Allah.

Sometimes we go through a situation and feel like there is no solution, no cure, Allah is showing you لا اله الا الله. No matter how tight the situation, you don't need the means nor anyone else, Allah is enough for you. Don't run to anyone except Allah. Don't go to anyone besides Him to bring goodness or avert harm.

The Angels Witness لا اله الا الله

We don't see this, but Allah informs us about it. The most purest creation witness لا اله الا الله

The People of Knowledge witness لا اله الا الله

They didn't see Allah but witness لا اله الا الله because they know about Allah. The knowledge of Allah is the most beautiful knowledge. Allah elevates the person who knows Him. Knowledge about Allah is better than knowledge about the creation. When you know Allah, you'll understand everything that happens in life. When you know how perfect He is, you can interpret the situations around you easily. You'll understand why everything happens, and think good about Him. But when you know the creation, and don't know Allah, you'll have suspicions, bad thoughts, because the creation isn't perfect.

E.g. The computer isn't working. When you don't know Allah you'll blame the factory, the shop, the mechanics, etc. When you know Allah, even if you don't know how the computer works, you know that everything is by His permission and everything He wills happens for a good reason. You'll have clarity and think good.

Knowledge about Allah explains so many things in life, and makes you think positive. You'll never despair, and you'll be able to explain anything.

E.g. Tomorrow it'll be -20 degrees. No one will be able to explain this occurrence. The one who knows Allah will be balanced even with his expressions. He'll say "Allah is able to do anything"

Knowledge of Allah will elevate you in your mentality. You'll think differently.

The People who have Knowledge of Allah explain everything connected to Allah. In this situation they'll say this is the "لطف الله", in that is the, "حكمة of Allah", etc. and will express and spread their knowledge to the people. They'll make people think good about Allah in situations.

This verse tells you to keep firm on لا اله الا الله. Surah Aal-Imran is all about firmness. Because Allah testifies لا اله الا الله, the Angels testify لا اله الا الله, and the People of Knowledge testify لا اله الا الله.

"قائما بالقسط"
Allah testified لا اله الا الله - and He brings all justice. He is Just in all His actions, and disposing the affairs of all the creation. Everything is perfectly in its place and there's a purpose behind it.
Believe in لا اله الا الله and connect everything that happens in your life to it.

E.g. You wake up in the morning. لا اله آلا الله. No One woke me up except Allah.

"لا اله الا هو"
In one verse, لا اله الا الله is repeated twice. Don't attach yourself to anyone except Allah. Don't forget لا اله الا الله.

"العزيز الحكيم"

Allah, whom no one is like, is العزيز. So attach yourself to the Almighty, and you will have honour. And His Might is connected to His wisdom. Whenever Allah does anything, it's with wisdom. Everything is in its right place. So attach yourself to Him and no one else. Keep remembering Allah.

This verse makes us constantly remember لا اله الا الله. Whenever you go through a situation in your life and can't interpret or explain it whether it's due to the weather, the actions of the people, the universe, remember this verse. This is so that you don't fall into backbiting, spying, or any sicknesses of the heart.
If a person does good to you, remember لا اله الا الله. If something bad happened, لا اله الا الله. And you'll live in happiness. Because remembrance of Allah brings life to the hearts, and لا اله الا الله is the best of remembrances.
