"Except Your chosen slaves amongst them (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism)."
Allah is العزيز, and made His book عزيز. In [41:41-42]:
"Verily, those who disbelieved in the Reminder (i.e. the Quran) when it came to them (shall receive the punishment). And verily, it is an honourable respected Book (because it is Allah's Speech, and He has protected it from corruption, etc.)."
"Falsehood cannot come to it from before it or behind it (it is) sent down by the All-Wise, Worthy of all praise (Allah)."
No matter how much the people of falsehood try to change its wording and meaning, they'll fail miserably. Allah promised He would preserve it in [15:9]:
"Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption)."
The Qur'an is the same book which Allah revealed upon the Prophet ﷺ. It is a protected, immune book. Even when Allah revealed it upon the Prophet ﷺ, the Shayateen couldn't steal, add, or delete anything it. And in 5 verses in the Qur'an, Allah connected the revelation of the Qur'an with His names العزيز الحكيم.
And in [40:2-3]:
"The revelation of the Book (this Quran) is from Allah the All-Mighty, the All-Knower."
"The Forgiver of sin, the Acceptor of repentance, the Severe in punishment, the Bestower (of favours), La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), to Him is the final return."
Allah connects the revelation of the Qur'an with the following:
1) العزيز
The All-Knowing
Forgiver of Sins
Acceptor of Repentance
Severe in Punishment
Owner of Graces and Bounties
There is no God who deserves to be worshipped except Him
To Him is the Final Destination
السعدي said this tells you that the entire Qur'an is about all the impacts of these names and attributes of Allah. The Qur'an is the news about Allah's names, attributes, and actions.
-> It tells us about the news of the ancient, the future, the unseen. And this indicates the knowledge of Allah.
-> The Qur'an calls the sinners to ask forgiveness and repent.
-> It mentions Allah's punishment and anger, and this indicates Allah's severity in punishment
-> The Qur'an is all evidences for
-> The Qur'an tells you about the news of the Day of Judgement, His recompense. And this is indicated by "إليه المصير"
Other Impacts of the name العزيز from the Sunnah
1) It is narrated by Ibn Abbas, that Allah's Messenger ﷺ used to invoke Allah saying:
No one can protect you from misguidance except Allah. Iblis, the father of the Shayateen, swore by Allah's عزة to misguide us. How can you not ask Allah by His عزة to keep us guided?
In [38:82]:
"[Iblis (Satan)] said: "By Your Might, then I will
surely mislead them all"
surely mislead them all"
The "ب" either is:
1) القسم - Shaytan is swearing by Allah's عزة, that he'll misguide the sons of Adam.
2) الإستعانة - He is seeking help in Allah's عزة to misguide us
In Verse 83:
As-Sa'di makes a دعاء in interpretation of this verse:
So we should seek help in Allah's عزة to drive away the harm of the Shaytan upon us. And this is how we should invoke Allah. Admit your weakness and incapacity, and seek help in Allah's عزة, so no Shaytan from the Jinn or humans can harm you.
2)
Muslim (2202) narrated from ‘Uthmaan ibn Abi’l-Aas that he complained to the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ about pain that he had felt in his body from the time he had become Muslim. The Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said to him: “Put your hand on the part of your body where you feel pain and say ‘Bismillaah (in the name of Allaah) three times, then say seven times, "I seek refuge in the glory and power of Allaah from the evil of what I feel and worry about"
Al-Tirmidhi (2080) added: He said, I did that, and Allaah took away what I had been suffering, and I kept on enjoining my family and others to do that.” (Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 1696)
3) If a person says the following words when he retires to bed, he will praise Allah equal to the praise of the entire creation.
الحمد لله الذي كفاني وآواني. الحمد لله الذي أطعمني وسقاني. الحمد لله الذي مَنَّ عليَّ وأفضلَ، اللهم إنِّي أسألك بعزَّتك أنْ تُنَجِّيَني من النّار;
In Conclusion:
Belief in this name should correct and perfect our If we really believe Allah is العزيز, whose command is executive, whatever He wills will happen, whatever He doesn't will won't happen, we won't show humility to anyone except Allah. If we need anything, we will put our needs at the gate of Allah. If we are in distress we wil resort to Him. If we are powerless and weak, we'll seek the strength from Him. We will not humiliate ourselves to the people, if we really believe Allah is العزيز, in whose hand is everything. No one can help me unless Allah wills it for me. No matter how much effort I put, if Allah doesn't give the permission, it won't happen. If I seek guidance, I seek it from العزيز. I want provision, I seek it from العزيز. I want relief from my distress, I seek it from العزيز.
If I really believe in the name of Allah العزيز, my heart won't turn to the people or anyone else. It'll only turn to Him. And this is what Allah wants from us. He doesn't like or accept, that we, His slaves, become slaves of the creation. He wants to honour us.
Doesn't He descend every night to the lowest heaven and say:
مَنْ يَدْعُونِي فَأَسْتَجِيبَ لَهُ
Who is calling upon me that I may answer him?
Who is asking from me that I may give him?
Who is seeking my forgiveness that I may forgive him?”
He's offering because He doesn't want to be humiliated, with our hearts attached to this and that person. He wants us to be attached to Him and no one else. And this is Tawheed.
We have to repeat the meaning of this name again and again to ourselves. If your sickness is not cured, Allah is العزيز. If your distress is not lifted, Allah is العزيز. He knows the best time.
In 3 verses in سورة آلِ عمران, the word لا اله الا الله is connected with His names العزيز الحكيم. This is to tell you that your Tawheed will not be correct unless you believe in it. We have to understand this name very well and live under its shade for the rest of our lives.
