(22/5/16) - Means of attaining Honour: Through the Qur'an (20)

بِسْم الله الرحمن الرحيم

We witness the impacts of Allah's عزة day and night in our lives. We see the impact of it in the Qur'an. In His hand is the power, strength, and honour. If we seek it, we should seek it from Him - and that's through taking the legal means of doing so.

From among the means:
1) Obedience to Allah
2) Pardoning Others
3) Humbling Yourself to Allah
4) Being Independant from the People

5) Through the Qur'an

Amir ibn Wathila reported: Nafi ibn Abd al-Harith met Umar at Usfan and Umar had employed him as a collector in Mecca. Umar said to him, “Who have you appointed as a collector for the people of the valley?”
He said, “Ibn Abza.”
Umar said, “Who is Ibn Abza?”
He said, “He is one of our emancipated slaves.”
Umar said, “You have appointed a freed slave over them?”
He said, “He is learned in the Book of Allah the Exalted and he is knowledgeable of the religious commandments.”
Umar said: It is as your Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Allah raises the status of a people with this Book and he debases others.[Muslim #817]

Keep in mind that القراء during those days didn't merely memorize the Qur'an. They were Scholars.
What does this mean? The more your share of acting upon the Qur'an increases, the more your share of elevation with Allah increases.

Ibn Hajr said that Elevation is of two kinds:
1) In this Dunya -> This is through raising the status of the person amongst people, and him having a good reputation.

2) In the Hereafter -> The person will have high degrees in Paradiss

And high status and reputation in the Dunya could exist after the death of the person. It's not a condition that he have it while he is alive. We all know what happened with Bukhari. At the end of his life he went through an affliction, where he was falsely accused of believing that the Qur'an is created (wheras it's the speech of Allah, an attribute of Allah, and thus uncreated).
The people abandoned him, until he died, and hardly 10 people attended his funeral. But look what happened after his death. Look at how Allah elevated his fame and reputation, such that all Muslims know him. There's hardly anyone that says Bukhari, without saying رحمه الله. His Saheeh is the most authentic book after the Qur'an, as classified by the Scholars. So it's not a condition for the person to be famous during his lifetime; don't be deceived by this.

Not everyone who recites the Qur'an will be elevated. You have to act upon its teachings and abstain from its prohibitions in order to be elevated.

The early generations were blessed with honour from Allah because of their love for the Qur'an and because they acted upon it. But nowadays the Muslims memorize the Qur'an, have it in their houses, yet it's covered in dust. And then they wonder why the Muslims are overpowered by the disbelievers. Many don't know the Qur'an except in Ramadan, if they even recite it then.

We have to look at our state and check how much we're acting upon the Qur'an. How much is it a light and guidance for us?

From the Impacts of the name of Allah العزيز, is that He made His book عزيز. In [41:41-42]:

What is the description of the Qur'an?
كتاب عزيز
It is protected and guarded from falsehood and corruption.
We have to build up our Aqeedah on the Qur'an from this verse. More than 1400 years have elapsed without a word being deleted or added to it, without its meaning being changed. Allah promised in [15:9] that He would protect the Qur'an:

When Allah revealed the Qur'an from the heavens to the Prophet ﷺ, He protected it from any Shaytan adding, changing, or touching it. If they ever tried to, they would fail miserably.

Allah protected the Qur'an by His عزة. It is immune, protected, rare, there is no book like it. Apply all the meanings of عزيز to the Qur'an. It's a powerful book. Look at its effect on the hearts of those who don't even understand Arabic. How can you say this isn't the speech of Allah?
Notice something important in the Qur'an; Notice how many times Allah connected "تنزيل الكتاب" with His name العزيز:

1) [36:5]:

2) [39:1]:

3) [40:2]:

4) [45:2]:

5) [46:2]:

This is to tell us something very important: That when Allah revealed the Qur'an, He guarded it with His عزة.

And the attribute of the speaker, tells you about the speech. If a good person is speaking, then good words will come out his mouth. If a bad person is speaking, then not so good words will come out.
When Allah says 'تنزيل العزيز الحكيم', then what does it tell you about His book?
