Allah mentioned the state of the hypocrites in سورة النساء [Verses 136-144]. They took the disbelievers as allies to get honour. What is the correct attitude? They should seek it from Allah. By doing what? Allying with the believers.
Ash-Shinqitee said commenting on Allah's statement in [30:7]:
Allah mentions the state of the People of the Dunya. They know every single thing about this life in detail, but are heedless concerning the hereafter. They don't give it any importance. The fact that they're going to die and meet Allah doesn't concern them. All their intentions, concerns, efforts, are directed towards this life.
He said, "It is incumbent upon every Muslim to ponder upon this verse and explain its indications to others. This is because one of the greatest فتنة which will occur at the end of times is that when the weak minded see the progression of the disbelievers in worldly matters and the Muslims lagging behind in that specific field, they'll believe that the disbelievers are on the correct path and the Muslims aren't"
This is something that increases at the end of time, and is severe ignorance - to equate worldly development with being on the truth.
The Story of Qarun in سورة القصص
In [28:79-83]:
When Qarun came out with his worldly riches, the people divided into two groups:
1)
2)
After this, the reality of Qarun was shown to those who were deceived by him:
They previously wished to be like Qarun, but now they came to know that it is Allah who gives and takes, who grants and withholds, who expands and constricts.
The كافر will never be successful - neither in this life, nor in the hereafter. All this progress and civilization we see is nothing. But who knew this fact before the earth swallowed Qarun? Those who had been given knowledge.
But the people of the Dunya didn't believe until they saw it with their eyes. And this is the state of those who have weak knowledge and faith - they don't admit until the calamity happens.
Allah mentions two other facts in Verse 83:
Today the disbelievers may be superior. But it's a temporary, untrue superiority, and means nothing. The end is for the متقين.
If you really think about it, the disbelievers work day and night in order to invent something. In the end we're the ones benefitting. We're at rest and they're working hard. We get the Dunya and the hereafter - and the hereafter is far better.
The children always want to travel to the disbelievers countries, get certificates there, work there, etc. These facts are an Aqeedah which we need to teach them.
Allah mentioned something similar to the Verses from سورة النساء in [5:51-57]:
Verse 51:
Whoever takes the Jews and Christians as friends, supporters, is one of them, and a ظالم - He's done something wrong.
Who takes Jews and Christians as أولياء?
In Verse 52:
The Hypocrites. They have a disease in their heart -> Love of the Dunya.
Why do they hurry to be friends with the disbelievers? They are afraid that some misfortune or disaster might happen to the country they're in, so they strengthen their relationship with the disbelievers, so they'll have something with them in order to be saved.
If you ask them they'll say, "If something were to happen, we can go back there and live well...."
They seek their worldly interest regardless if Allah is pleased or not with them - as if they know better than Allah. They say they are worried about the future of their children, but what future for your children is there with the disbelievers? We are free of those people.
Allah mentioned the ruling regarding this in Verse 54:
Whoever does the previous mentioned actions, they're in danger of falling into apostasy. And if they turn away from the religion of Islam, Allah is in no need of them. He will bring people He loves, and who love Him. And it is easy for Allah to replace an entire nation. In [14:20]:
What is the attitude of the true believers?
They are merciful, kind, humble towards each other and are strong, stern towards the disbelievers.
According to Ibn Abbas, the believers are merciful to each other like the son is merciful to the father, the father to the son, the slave to his master.
Allah, again, says in Verse 57:
They laugh at you and take you as a subject of jest. How can you take them as allies?
Notice, in Verse 51, Allah says the same thing. Then right in the middle, in Verse 54, Allah says:
What's the relation between them? The scholars said that the verse of apostasy is sandwiched between the verses commanding us not take the disbelievers as allies, to indicate that taking the disbelievers as allies will lead a person to apostasy.
There are many verses in the Qur'an where Allah forbids us to take the disbelievers as allies. It's prohibition is mentioned almost as much as the prohibition of Shirk. It's that serious.
