Dreams - Part 2 - (17/4/16)

Ibn Hajar said: To sum up what has been said about good dreams, we may say three things:
1) A person should praise Allaah for the good dream
2) He should feel happy about it (and expect good)
3) He should talk about it to those whom he loves but not to those whom he dislikes.
The person you tell the dream to should meet the following conditions:
He should be a person who loves you, a scholar, advisor, a wise person.
The first condition is very very important, because even if he meets the other conditions, if he doesn't love you, how do you think he'll feel about your dream? What happened with Yusuf and his brothers?
He should also be a scholar who has knowledge of the Qur'an and Sunnah and can interpret your dream accordingly. You can't get a dream interpretation from just anyone, because they're considered Fatwas.
Every time someone sought a dream interpretation in Surah Yusuf, you find it with the other derivations of the word Fatwa.
E.g. [12:56]:

The person you tell should also be able to advise and guide you to what's best for you.
And he should be wise. He should know when to talk and when to keep silent.

To sum up what has been said about bad dreams, we may say four things:
1) He should seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of the dream
2) He should seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of the Shaytaan
From a Hadith mentioned in Bukhari, you can say:
"اللهم إني أعوذبك من شر الشيطان و من شر ما رأيت"

3) He should spit to his left three times when he wakes up (and change his position)
4) He should not mention it to anyone at all.
Don't talk about it, just completely ignore it, and Allah will remove it from you. If you don't, the Shaytan will constantly remind you of it.

Ibn Uthaymeen said that if the dream reoccurs, get up, perform ablution and two units of voluntary prayer.

Dream Interpretation
Dream interpretation is a knowledge. Not anyone can interpret dreams.

There are some types of dreams which have the opposite meaning. For example death indicates your repentance and that you've become a better person. Fear could mean security and safety.
Only those who have knowledge of dream interpretation can interpret this.

Interpreters should also have knowledge of the commonly known proverbs amongst people.
Seeing yourself falling into a hole, for example, could mean someone is plotting against you, based on a well known proverb.

They should also know the language.
E.g. You see a man in your dream named صالح or راشد. This indicates something good, it could be reformation, etc.
But not everyone can interpret; you have to have knowledge.

Imaam al-Baghawi said: Know that the interpretation of dreams falls into various categories. Dreams may be interpreted in the light of the Qur’aan or in the light of the Sunnah, or by means of the proverbs that are current among people, or by names and metaphors, or in terms of opposites. (Sharh al-Sunnah, 12/220)
