Class 4 - (3/4/16)

The Prophet ﷺ said, "...If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much"

This doesn't mean you would perpetually cry and be miserable, but that you'd look at life through a different perspective. If you look into the life of the Prophet ﷺ, you'd find that he used to always smile.

What knowledge should we know in order to reach this state?
1) Knowledge of the Reality of this Life
This life is an abode of test, and it's enjoyment is a temporary, unreal enjoyment.

2) Knowledge of the Unseen
We need to know Allah, His names, attributes, the Angels, etc.

3) Knowledge regarding the Future (i.e. What we are going to face from death, until the final abode)
If you know about the Day of Judgement in detail, it'll undoubtedly affect your thoughts, your heart, etc.

What will happen on the Day of Judgement?
In [30:14]:

On the Day of Judgement people will be separated. Imagine this situation, which we're all going to go through. How will they be separated?

In this life, when we hear about separation by mother and children, it hurts a lot. When we travel and leave our beloved ones it causes us pain, although it's temporary. Then what about on the Day of Judgement? It's a matter of Hell and Paradise - it's a permanant, eternal separation - except those whom Allah has mercy on; those who will be punished in hell temporarily for their sins.

There's a further separation after this: between the believers and hypocrites.

This should make us think. There's a group among the believers, who attend lectures with the believers, sleep, eat with them, but they'll be separated because of their hypocrisy. The hypocrites don't feel or know they are hypocrites, and they'll walk with the believers on the Day of Judgement, as they used to in this life. But while they are walking, Allah will put a wall which seperates the believers from them. They thought they could deceive Allah, but Allah will show them their reality on that day. In [57:13-15]:

We should live this knowledge while we are alive. The separation we feel nowadays is painful; but real separation from our beloved ones is the separation on the Day of Judgement. It's a matter of Paradise and Hell. It's a matter of eternity.

This knowledge about what's going to happen on the Day of Judgement should affect you. It'll make you take life seriously. It'll make you seek reformation for your life, family, and children. It'll make you ask Allah to make you of the believers. It'll make you seek refuge from hypocrisy and disbelief. It'll make you ask Allah to forgive you for your shortcomings and sins. It'll make you exert your utmost in doing good deeds.

It'll make you laugh little and weep much.

Another thing that we'll face is the agony of death. If you ponder over it, it'll change you and your way of thinking.

What will happen at the time of death?
At the time of death, we'll all lose our bodily strength. The only thing that will remain is the strength of the heart, which will beat until the last moment,p; when the soul leaves. If you live in this life occupied with the glorification and remembrance of Allah, this will become apparent at the time of death. Your heart was strong in the glorification of Allah while you lived, so you'll die glorifying Allah.

But if your heart, while you were alive, was occupied with this worldly life - busy with what you eat, drink, with traveling, business, earning, etc. - this will be made apparent at the time of death.
There was a person who used to buy and sell material. When he was dying he said, "This meter costs this much...etc" until he died.

Another woman was sitting in a meeting, and at that moment she felt she was dying. She said, "My son...My son....call my son" until she died. This indicates that her heart was filled and busy with the love of her son.

Whoever lives on something, will die upon it.

Check your life, ask yourself what you're always busy with. You'll die upon it.

Uttering لا اله الا الله at the time of death, is a gift and guidance of Allah for that person. No one can say it, unless Allah keeps Him firm.  In [14:27]:

But who are the people whom Allah will keep firm? Those who occupied their hearts with لا اله الا الله
How can you expect to live occupied with the Dunya and say لا اله الا الله at the time of death? The Dunya and Aakhirah will never meet in the heart of a person.

Our concern should be a good ending. How much are you asking Allah to grant you a good end? To make the means of being kept firm easy for you?

اللهم ثابتنا بالقول الثابت فالحياة الدنيا و الآخرة

If we know the reality of what we're going to face at the end of our lives in detail, we won't live in the state we're living in now. The way of our thinking would change. We wouldn't be the same people.

“Angels come to the dying person and if the man was righteous, they say: ‘Come out, O good soul that was in a good body, come out praiseworthy and receive the glad tidings of mercy and fragrance and a Lord Who is not angry.’

And this is repeated until it comes out, then it is taken up to heaven, and it is opened for it, and it is asked, ‘Who is this?’ They say:  ‘[It is] So and so.’ It is said: ‘Welcome to the good soul that was in a good body. Enter praiseworthy and receive the glad tidings of mercy and fragrance and a Lord Who is not angry.’ And this is repeated until it is brought to the heaven above which is Allah, may He be glorified and exalted.

But if the man was evil, they say: ‘Come out O evil soul that was in an evil body. Come out blameworthy and receive the tidings of boiling water and dirty wound discharges, and other torments of similar kind, all together.

And this is repeated until it comes out, then it is taken up to heaven and it is not opened for it. And it is said: ‘No welcome to the evil soul that was in an evil body. Go back blameworthy, for the gates of heaven will not be opened to you.’ So it is sent back down from heaven, then it goes to the grave.” [Ibn Majah - Authenticated by Al-Albani]

In [79:1-2]:

If these facts are always alive in your heart, it'd make you laugh little and weep much. You wouldn't constantly make fun of and joke around with everyone and everything. You'd be a serious person. Yet you find when you remind people, they say, "Don't tell us about this, don't make life miserable, let's enjoy and have fun". They consider what they're living in now an enjoyment and happiness.

And when they want to travel to a country in this world, they prepare in advance. But do they prepare for the inevitable journey in front of them?

Allah called the Day of Judgment يوم التغابون. On that day, people would regret. The believers will see those having higher grades than them in Paradise and the disbeliever will wish he believed. They had the chance but they didn't take it. Their negligence, carelessness, heedlessness prevented them.

We see youth who are strong but lazy. They take life easily and not seriously. If you don't take benefit of your strength now, when will you take advantage of it? Exhausting yourself in this Dunya for what? You'll lose your strength when you get older. You'll want to pray longer but you won't be able to. You'll want to fast, but you can't. You're young now so do as much as you can. Learn, seek knowledge, Make Da'wah. Don't spend it lazing around, lying down, wishing, wishing. Life is passing without you doing any good. Don't be a loser.

Allah said this Dunya is, "متاع الغرور". Don't be deceived by it, it's perishable and temporary. It'll go away one day. Don't prefer this life over the next. اللهم لا عيش الا عيش الآخرة.

We need the facts of the hereafter to be alive in front of our eyes. Make this information wake you up; not waste time anymore. It's enough what you've wasted already.

Another impact of knowledge about the reality of this life, the unseen, and the future, is that it'll make you a wise person. You'll think correctly and not make something unimportant your concern - especially if it's something worldly. You won't even think about it.
You'll do what pleases Allah, and you'll avoid everything Allah hates. You won't rejoice excessively when you get a worldly blessing. You won't be excessively sad if you lose anything in this world. You'll be moderate in your feelings. You know that this is a worldly matter - Allah is the One who gives and takes, the one who expands and constricts provision. You'll be stable; having a heart with rest and peace. Regardless of how much you taste of the pleasure of the Dunya, you'll know that it's a متاع الغرور. Your concerns won't be restricted to eating, drinking, exercising, enjoyment. But that's only if you know the reality of everything.

Another impact is that it'd make you sincere. You'd do everything for the sake of Allah, not waiting for praise, a good word, or a gift for a good deed. In fact, you'd become upset if you received a gift, and view it as a مصيبة, fearing that it might be a hastened recompense for your good deeds in this world. Your only concern is your status with Allah, if He's pleased with you or not. You wouldn't care if the people love you or not.

If we lived according to this Hadith, our lives would be different.
