(23/2/16) - Class 1 - اسم الله الواسع

Allah said in [20:8]:

And He said in [84:19]:

There's no one deserving or worthy of your attachment except Allah.

We all go through different situations in our life, whether it's about a job, friends, schools, children, cars, etc. But the problem isn't the problem. It's not about your house, or children, the test is about your لا اله الا الله. But most people's eyes are restricted to the Dunya, they don't see the test behind it.

When you're in a difficult situation, Allah wants to see if you'll run to Him or someone else.
The more we have technology the less we rely on Allah. As soon as something breaks, our hearts run to the person who fixes it. The issue is in how much you attach your heart to Allah, how patient you are, how much Taqwa you have, etc.

Allah said in [93:1-11]:

One of the meaning of this verse is that any matter in your life: whether it's marriage, a job, etc. the beginning will be constricted and difficult. But you need to believe that if you are patient on this tightness, later will be better. Allah will make it vaster. Tomorrow will be better than today. Next week will be better than this week. Allah is الواسع, but you need to be patient for what Allah gave you. Be happy with your situation and Allah will make it better and better.

E.g. People are such a Fitnah, they say you have children, you're going to be miserable. The more children you have the more they say it'll be difficult. If you listen to them, that's exactly how it's going to be. But if you believe in this, the more time goes by, the vaster and better your situation will be. We experience tightness in life, and see how Allah makes it large and vast

Allah makes us experience this even before we studied this name. Allah teaches us and gives us more and more; even our understanding is getting more. In the beginning of seeking knowledge just listening was a struggle, because Allah wanted to test our truthfulness. And now everything's wide and easy. He's making us live His name الواسع.

Allah created the Dunya, which is الأولى vast in our eyes. The seas are vast, the sky is vast, the universe is fast. Imagine جنة عرضها السماوات و الارض. And what we learn about Allah is so vast.

Allah is teaching us about His name الواسع because He wants to upgrade us, make life vast for us.

المعني اللغوي - The Linguistic Meaning
و س ع
The opposite of it is:
a) الضيق - Tightness/Constriction
b) العسر - Difficulty

Where this name is mentioned in the Qur'an
The majority of times it's mentioned is in سورة البقرة. It's mentioned in four positions, more than any other Surahs.

What's the connection?
-> The Prophet ﷺ said that سورة البقرة has بركة in it.
-> It's the longest Surah
-> You find legislations and rules mentioned in سورة البقرة, and they're not there to make your life difficult, but to give you ease and vastness.
-> Allah gave Bani Israeel a command to kill any cow. It was so vast. But they narrowed it down for themselves because they didn't submit to Allah, and ended up with having to slaughter one type of cow.
-> If you want to live in vastness and ease, submit to Allah, don't be like Bani Israeel. At the end of سورة البقرة, in [2:286]:

In [2:115]:

In [2:261]:

And in [2:268]:

Vastness includes:
-> Vastness in Place
-> Vastness in a Situation
-> Vastness in Actions

المعنى الشرعي

A Transitive Attribute             A Personal Attribute

E.g. A person is rich, he's rich in himself. But he doesn't give others, so it isn't a صفة متعدية.

صفة ذاتية

1) (بذاته واسع)
Allah is by Himself vast. No one influences His vastness and no one can tighten the vastness of Allah. Even if there's no one, He is vast.
The sky and earth is vast, but they're not vast because of themselves. Allah made it vast, and He can cause it to go away on the Day of Judgement.
Allah enlarges our understanding, He enlarges our provision, etc. We were misguided, Allah enlarged it and made guidance easy for us.
But Allah being الواسع means that He didn't get it from anyone. He is vast by Himself.

This makes you feel confidence with Allah - I attach my heart to the One who is الواسع in Himself. Why should I attach my heart to someone who can change and become tight later? If you attach your heart to Allah الواسع you'll never fall, you'll never feel miserable.

In life we need to deal with people like they're people. And we need to attach our hearts to Allah. Anyone else can change, there's no stability with them.

2) (الواسع في أسمائه)
We hear the names of Allah الرب، الرحم، الرحيم، الخالق، الجبار، الحي، الغفور، الوهاب، السميع، البصير، القهار, etc. Every name of Allah is واسع - there are no boundaries to them. There's no end to his names, we don't give the due estimation we should to the names of Allah. We say we finished studying a name, but there's actually so much more to it.
That's why in [6:103]:

No one can encompass Allah. That's why it's such a great prize to see Allah on the Day of Judgement - to see الواسع.

3) (الواسع في صفاته)
The attributes of Allah are vast. There are no boundaries to His knowledge.
In [20:98]:

4) (الواسع في كلماته)
In [18:109]:

The words of anyone other than Allah is limited. The words are limited, and the meaning of the words are limited.
The Qur'an is the speech of Allah and it's meaning is unlimited. The application of it is unlimited.
"العبرة بعموم اللفظ لا بخصوص السبب"

One verse might cure a jealous person, guide another to Islam, cure your sickness, etc. We have different problems, sicknesses, and there is one Qur'an.

5) (الواسع في رحمته)
In [7:156]:

Allah's punishment, anger, wrath is restricted, but His mercy reaches out to everything. This is Allah الواسع. Why are you worshipping someone who can get constricted? Why are you making it difficult for yourself?

And in [40:7]:

The One who knows everything has mercy. Even our knowledge about ourselves is limited and constricted. But Allah knows everything about us, He knows exactly who we are and what our characteristics are. And this knowledge is connected to His mercy. That's why He sends people to bring out your negative points so you can cure them.
