(15/3/16) - Class 3 - اسم الله الواسع

بِسْم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Everything about Allah is واسع. His creation is واسع, His commands are واسع, His reward is واسع, His knowledge is واسع, His mercy is واسع, His forgiveness is واسع - but His anger, wrath, and punishment is restricted.

Even sins and disobedience is narrow, and goodness is واسع.

Islam teaches us to have open hearts and broad minds.

A non-Muslim looks at the laws in Islam as something tight and difficult. They aren't looking at the bigger picture. Allah is الواسع and He gives us so many ways to fulfill the acts of worship.

In [8:5-6]:

And then in [8:11-12]:

The Muslims were commanded to go during the غزوة of Badr, and a party of them, although  they knew it was the truth felt it was difficult and tight. But look, when you submitted, and followed the commands of Allah, Allah sent Angels to help you, rain coming down, victory, and the booty. When you submit, Allah will show you vastness. When you refuse to submit, everything becomes tight.

Even when we deal with people, don't deal with the tightly. Deal with them vastly, and give them many excuses.

We learnt that Allah created the sky vast. And the universe keeps expanding and expanding. In [51:47]:

And yet there's something even vaster than السماء. The Kursi of Allah.
In [2:255]:

What is the كرسي? It's not a chair. It's the place where Allah puts His feet; in a way that suits His majesty. And nothing can surround Allah, be above them, or restrict Him.

What about the كرسي?
"وسع كرسيه السماوات و الارض"

But there's something greater than the Kursi - The Throne of Allah

The Prophet ﷺ said, "The Universe compared to Allah's Kursi is like a ring in the desert. And the Kursi compared to His Throne is like a ring in the desert" [Ibn Hibban]

And again, neither creation surrounds Allah, nor does Allah need them. And if this is the creation of Allah, then how vast is Allah? And Allah is vast in all aspects - All His names, actions, and attributes are vast.

E.g. Our actions are limited. They can be encompassed. If I'm writing, I'm writing. And the most you can give is the reason you're writing.
But all Allah's actions are limited. If He causes a leaf to fall, it's not like the leaf fell and that's it. The explanation of that leaf falling is so vast and unlimited.

It is narrated from Ibn Abbas that he said "The seven

heavens and seven earths will be as small in Allah's

Hand as a seed of mustard in one of your hands."

In [39:67]:

Any other religion besides Islam is very tight and constricted. But the religion of Allah, the commands, the rules, the legislations, is so واسع. And makes you free. Islam gives you freedom. Freedom comes when you're a slave of الواسع.

----------------------

In [2:268]:

The beginning of this verse talks about the Shaytan and his promises, and the end of the verse is Allah's name الواسع. This gives you the impression that whatever Shaytan promises and commands is tight and narrow and restricted, and what Allah promised is free and full of vastness. And yet our mindset is the opposite. People think that when you pray, fast, and do good deeds, you are miserable because there are many restrictions. But it's the complete opposite.

The Shaytan promises that you can do whatever you want, that's why you think it's freedom. Although it appears vast, it'll lead you to tightness. That's why people who follow the Shaytan are so miserable. When people fall into sins it's like a chain; a loop.

But obeying Allah frees you from slavery to your desires.

If you tell your child to do whatever he wants, he'll follow his desires, and be stuck in that circle and always be miserable. It's so narrow and restricted.

What does the Shaytan promise you? He always make you think bad. Promises you poverty. If you don't do this you'll be miserable, in need, no one will love you, etc.

What does he command you? الفحشاء; all the major sins.
People commit this because of the promises of the Shaytan. They indulge in Zina and alcohol because they're afraid of poverty. They fall into the Haraam because of his threats.

But what did Allah promise you? "مغفرة منه و فضلا"
Following Allah's commands are good for you. This is so vast. He'll forgive your sins and on top of that favours.

His promises are واسع, His bounty is واسع. And even if He gives everyone forgiveness and favours, it will never diminish anything from Him. His forgiveness and rewards will never be less; unlike human beings who are restricted. We forgive once, twice, thrice, then how many more? We give rewards once, twice, thrice, and then we have nothing left.

And He is عليم. He gives the forgiveness and favours according to what's in your heart. Most of the time واسع is connected to عليم, because Allah will give you according to He knows about you.
In [2:220]:

------------------

In [3:73]:

Don't think there's a restriction when Allah says He gives it to whom He wills. For us, we only give some because we don't always have the capacity to give everyone. But Allah is الواسع - He gives those who deserve it.

E.g. You make دعاء. Sometimes it doesn't come. In your mind you need to believe that Allah is الواسع, He has treasures, but He didn't give me because He knows it's not good for me. Think good of Allah.

What is the favour of Allah in this verse? The Guidance.
If people didn't accept the guidance, Allah didn't give it to them. Allah is vast in His guidance, but some people deprive themselves from it.

E.g. Someone has a feast and gives out an invitation to everyone in town. Those who accept the invitation get to eat from it, those who refuse don't get to.
When someone doesn't enjoy the favours of Allah, it's not because Allah is restricted, it's because they deprived themselves.

We are the narrow-minded ones, when we don't take the opportunity to go to Paradise عرضها كعرض السماوات و الأرض.

----------

In [4:130]:

This verse is about divorce between husband and wife.

Divorce isn't something pleasant, but it happens sometimes.

If people do, Allah gives them hope. Don't think that if it happens, your life is going to be unpleasant and constricted and even worse. We think that divorce cuts off provision, because during marriage, the husband and wife benefit from each other. We think that no one will ever want to marry a divorced woman.

But from Allah's vastness, He will enrich both of them. People make it sad and depressing and miserable and negative because of all the movies they watch. It's all from the Shaytan.

Divorce is not the end of the world. It doesn't mean you'll be both miserable and never find someone else. Allah will enrich both of you from His vastness. He is vast, and His vastness is connected with His wisdom. There'll be a time when Allah opens it for you, makes it easy. Believe in Allah. If one door closes, Allah will open a hundred.

We just need to be broad-minded, because society can make you feel constricted and tight. We expect and think bad, that's why we see bad in our lives. Think good about Allah's actions. There's always a solution with Allah.
