Tadabbur Class 3c - (31/3/16) - The Characteristics of the Hypocrites in سورة التوبة

Verse 69:

Many people nowadays are committing this.

You may ask - Is it حرام to enjoy the portion of the Dunya Allah gave me?
It's not حرام - but the purpose behind Allah giving us a worldly portion, is not merely to enjoy it, but to worship Allah by it and use it to bring us closer to Him. Instead of using it for the purpose it was created for, the hypocrites allowed these worldly blessings to divert them from the remembrance of Allah - and this is what they are blamed for.
Everyone is given a worldly portion - what have you done with yours?

We need to look into every single blessing Allah gave us and ask ourselves to what extent this blessing had brought us closer to Allah.

E.g. The luxury we are living in now. We aren't talking about extremely wealthy people, but average people. We have more than what the people in the past had - everything's available to us. Take water for example. In the past people could hardly get clean water to drink. They used to bring water tanks from Iraq and distribute it to houses on the backs of donkeys

E.g. Everything is done by machines. The woman doesn't have to spend hours washing clothes, she can finish everything with a press of a button. This is a blessing. We have free time because of this - how did you spend it? Did you use this free time to get closer to Allah, or do you just play on your phone, go here and there, spend it in vain?

E.g. Your house is close to the Masjid. This is a favour from Allah. You hear the Athan for all prayers, throughout the day. How do you use this blessing? Do you repeat after the Athan, make dua between the Athan and Iqamah, send your children to the Masjid, pray on time?

The problem is we take so many blessings for granted, and even forget to consider them blessings, because we're used to the, existing. And this is exactly what "نسوا الله" is. They're used to these blessings and forget to use it to come closer to Allah...."فنسيهم"

2) "خضتم كالذي خاضوا"
This is to indulge in lies and falsehood. They indulge in mocking, making fun of everything, and falsehood. We have the same thing happening nowadays - when people broadcast inauthentic narrations, and call people to innovation.
We have to be careful. If you open a group on whatsapp you're responsible for everything people posted of YouTube video clips, forwards, etc. Allah will ask you about it.

People practice الخوض easily nowadays. And when you tell them that it's حرام, another attribute of hypocrisy comes out: الجدال. They start arguing with you.

We don't feel the burden of these sins, yet the Angel on the left is writing and writing. Why would you do this to yourself?

Because the Qur'an is مثاني, Allah mentions the descriptions of the believers after the hypocrites:

Verse 71-72:

Comparison between the attitude of the believers and the hypocrites

The believers love and support each other. They belong to one another. The hypocrites don't have this attribute. They resemble each other, but don't love each other. They're selfish, and only care about themselves.

When we see Muslims of different nationalities and countries, we feel like they belong to us and we to them. We love and support each other. If they are suffering, we suffer with them. You hear and read about the lives of the companions, of Bukhari, Muslim, Ibn Baz, Ibn Uthaymeen, and although you've never met them, you feel love and longing to meet them.

An-Nu’man ibn Basheer reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The example of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body. When any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.” [Agreed upon]

Abu Musa reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Verily, the believers are like a structure, each one strengthening the other,” and the Prophet clasped his fingers together." [Agreed upon]

المعروف is a comprehensive word which implies everything known that is good.

المنكر is what is denied by the natural disposition (The sound فطرة - not the distorted one)
Everyone with a sound disposition hates oppression and loves justice. No one likes theft, they deny it. Everyone with sound فطرة among the disbelievers deny and oppose Zina and obscene acts. Allah created us like this.
Out of His grace, Allah clarified it to all for us in the Qur'an, such that even those whose فطرة's are distorted can find out what's correct and incorrect from the Qur'an.

The false Aqeedah comes at the top of المنكر which we should forbid. And the best of معروف is calling people to Tawheed. You have to practice Tawheed and teach it to your children.

What are of the greatest معروف in Allah's sight?

"يقيمون الصلاة و يؤتون الزكاة"

يطيعون الله و رسوله   X      نسوا الله فنسيهم

The believers obey Allah and the Prophet ﷺ and adhere to His obedience, whereas the hypocrites deliberately turn away.

What is their recompense?

Allah will show mercy to the believers; guide them to good and repel evil from them whereas He'll abandon the hypocrites and not guide them to His mercy.

Don't just go through their descriptions without understanding. Go back to the Verses. Compare. Reflect.

"إن الله عزيز حكيم"
What's the wisdom behind ending the verse with these two names? -> ->
