Tadabbur Class 3b - (31/3/16) - Revision of the Characteristics of the Hypocrites

When we make Tadabbur we should seek purification of our souls from sins. And the most serious sin and sickness is النفاق - Hypocrisy.

Don't get bored when we repeat over the descriptions of the hypocrites. The meanings of the Qur'an will never be well established in your heart in just one course. You'll never get all its jewels in one sitting. You need to repeat and repeat, again and again. And the more you repeat, the more Allah will open new understandings and knowledge for you. Every time you repeat, your faith will increase and the meaning will become well established in your heart. This shows us the miracle of the Qur'an.

Verses 56-57:

Allah mentions that they swear falsely again.

They are afraid.

Verse 58:

They criticize and defame. Here they are criticizing the Prophet ﷺ regarding charity. They don't criticize constructively, but to show that they are better than him. This is a major sin. Allah said in (104:1):

They are materialistic. If they are given of worldly things, they are satisfied and pleased. If they aren't given they are displeased. Their concern is limited to this world.

Verse 61:

They annoy the Prophet ﷺ. They said he listens to everyone and can't distinguish falsehood from truth. And he is far above what they attribute him with. When he accepted their excuses, he didn't do so because he believed them, but because Allah told him to turn away from them. This action of theirs indicates that they don't magnify Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.

Generally, annoying or harming the Prophet ﷺ is considered Kufr.

Verse 62:

Allah mentions they falsely swear again. And this characteristic is repeated throughout the Surah:

In Verse 74:

In Verse 95:

In Verse 96:

In Verse 107:

Muhammed Ibn AbdulWahhab has a chapter in Kitab At-Tawheed dedicated to those who swear - either falsely or frequently. They do so because they don't give Allah His due magnification. It's their lack of honour of Allah which causes them to swear for worldly and trivial matters.
Teach your children to not swear for the sake of pleasing you.

Verse 63:

They oppose Allah and His Messenger

Verses 64-66:

They mock Allah, the religion of Islam, the Prophet ﷺ, His companions, etc.

Whoever mocks Allah, His religion, or Islamic symbols, has become a Kaafir. (E.g. Mocking a scholars knowledge of Islam.)

Whoever mocks the manners of people, what they wear, and how they act, has committed a Major Sin. (E.g. Mocking the way the scholar walks, etc)

Verse 67:

Allah didn't say, "و منهم". All the hypocrites have the following characteristics:
1) بعضهم من بعض - They resemble each other
2) يأمرون بالمنكر
3) ينهون عن المعروف

They beautify evil and encourage people to do it, and uglify the good.
We hear much of this nowadays - people calling to freedom, to follow whatever religion you want, do whatever you want, have relationships before marriage, not have many children, for women to mingle with men, that her staying at home is backwards, being modern is going out and working - even though the Prophet ﷺ said:
"Woman is an ‘awrah, and if she goes out, the shaytaan raises his hopes (of misguiding her). She is never closer to Allaah than when she stays in her house.” [Narrated by Ibn Hibbaan and Ibn Khuzaymah; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Shaheehah, no. 2688

They are calling against Islam; against what Allah and His Messenger ﷺ call for.

4) يقبضون أيديهم
They are miserly.

5) نسوا الله
They neglected remembering Allah much and deliberately turned away from the commands of Allah.

In the Qur'an, Allah said in (4:132)  that the hypocrites remember Allah, but very little:

In (33:41) Allah says to the believers:

When you join all the verses together, you get the full picture. Remember Allah much, and you will leave the fold of hypocrisy.  Remember Allah in the morning and evening, after every obligatory prayer, before and after eating, before going to sleep. Remember Allah in every state.

In return, how did Allah deal with the hypocrites? "فنسيهم" -> Allah abandoned them.
This is a very scary, serious action of Allah.

How did Allah abandon them?
a) He didn't guide them to His mercy
b) He made their hearts heedless. They don't remember to intend good before doing a good deed.
c) He made them waste their time and life in vain. They don't get benefit of their life and time.
Look into your day - how much good have you done from morning till evening?

Verse 68:

There are three punishments prepared for them:
1) نار جهنم for eternity
2) لعنهم الله -> They are far away from the mercy of Allah.
3) عذاب مقيم
