العزيز is derived from the word "عز" which has the meaning of strength, power, الغلبة (dominance), exaltedness, honour, uniqueness.
Allah has 3 types of عزة:
1) عزة القوى - The Might of Power
There is nothing comparable to Allah's might and strength. Even if the whole creation gathered together, their strength is nothing compared to the strength of Allah.
2) عزة القهر و الغلبة - The Might of Dominance
Allah overpowers everything; everything is subdued to Him and submits to His greatness. Nothing moves and takes an action in this world without the permission/will of Allah. All the forelocks of the creation are in Allah's hands. Whatever He wills will happen, and whatever He wills not will not happen.
3) عزة الامتناع
Allah is Perfect; He is free of all defects and everything that doesn't suit His majesty. He is free of need to offspring, partners, wives. No one can bring benefit to Allah or cause harm to Him.
Whenever you come accross any verse which mentions Allah's name العزيز, or talks about Allah's عزة, you should know what type of عزة He's talking about.
E.g.
1) In (3:26-27):
What type of عزة is mentioned here? عزة القهر و الغلبة. Because it's associated with the will of Allah - whenever you hear about the will of Allah it is indicative of this type of عزة.
What type of عزة is mentioned here? عزة القوى - He created the heavens and earth by His strength.
3) (30:27):
What type of عزة is mentioned here? عزة الامتناع - Because to Him belong the perfect and highest attributes.
4) In (6:96):
What type of عزة is mentioned here? عزة القهر و الغلبة
5) In (34:27):
What type of عزة is mentioned here? عزة الإمتناع - Allah is free of need of partners.
6) In (14:4):
What type of عزة is mentioned here? عزة القهر و الغلبة
Sometimes we are very keen to guide people, but we are unable to. Because guidance is in Allah's hands.
7) In (26:65-68):
What type of عزة is mentioned here? عزة القوى
8) In (35:2):
What type of عزة is mentioned here? عزة القهر و الغلبة
Whatever Allah wills will happen. If he brings the رحمة to someone no one can withhold it, and if He prevents it from someone, no one can grant it.
9) In (35:16-17):
What type of عزة is mentioned here? عزة الامتناع
If Allah wills, He can remove you and bring forth a new creation. And that's not impossible for Allah; It's not hard for Him.
