(8/3/16) - Journey to Allah Day 3 - رحلة إلى الله - The Day of Judgement - يوم القيامة

In سورة القيامة:

Allah swore by the Day of Judgement. There are so many names for the Day of Judgement, one of which is يوم القيامة - because it's a day when we'll all stand in front of Allah.

Who benefits from being reminded of the Day of Judgement?

The self accusing soul.

To those who doubt the resurrection, know that Allah is not just able to bring our bones and skin together - but even our fingerprints.

There will be so many events and changes happening to the universe on the Day of Judgement:

In the middle of the Surah, Allah mentions the Qur'an:

This is the guidance we need to follow in our life. The Day of Judgement could happen any moment, and we need to prepare for it. But even then, don't hurry with the Qur'an. It is on Allah to gather it in our hearts and explain it.

Then Allah goes back to the topic of يوم القيامة. What's our problem- Why aren't we preparing for this Day?

We love the Dunya - and leave
Why is one of the names of the Day of Judgement يوم الآخر? Because there's no day after the Day of Judgement. It's the last day of the days we know. After the Day of Judgement will be eternity. This is the greatest day.

The disbelievers who are being tortured in their graves will beg Allah to not bring it - because it'll be a very severe day for the person who didn't work for it.
The believer in his grave wishes for it to be hasted. It'll be one day - but two very different experiences depending on who you are. Because security and safety comes when you attach yourself to Allah - السلام، المؤمن

If you put the next life in front of your eyes, you'll win the Dunya and the آخرة. If you put the Dunya in front of your eyes, you'll lose both lives.

Allah then mentions the different groups of people:

The destination is Allah. Allah didn't talk about Paradise - He talked about seeing Him. Because that's the goal.

--------------

The Names of the Day of Judgement

Everyone is standing. No one can sit, lie down, flee, run away. In (4:87):

It is the day of coming out from our graves. In (50:42):

50:42

In (32:29):

32:29

In (101:1-5):

In (80:33-37):

On the Day of Judgement the sound of the first blow of the trumpet will make the ears go deaf.

This is the second blow of the trumpet. It also means that nothing is more overpowering than يوم القيامة. Whatever you're worried or concerned about - the Day of Judgement is greater.

In (79:34-36):

It's the Day of Regret.
In (19:39):

Who will regret on the Day of Judgement? Everyone. The disbeliever will regret not believing. The believer will regret not doing more good deeds and abstaining from sins.

How can we estimate the amount of regret we'll feel on the Day of Judgement? Your life minus the time you spent remembering Allah. The rest of your time will be regret.

We are made from sand, our quality is so low - and yet if we do good deeds Allah will make us better than the Angels and live in Paradise for eternity. This is a huge opportunity and yet we're wasting our lives.

Allah's informed us of all this so that we're not blind in life. There will be a day of regret. So we need to ask Allah to help us - اللهم أعنا على ذكرك و شكرك و حسن عبادتك - because we can't rely on ourselves. If we rely on ourselves we'll fail.

I.e. This means that the Day of Judgement is near. In (53:57-58):

It's a day so overwhelming, it covers the brains.
In (88:1-5):

It's a day where there's so much calling. On the Day of Judgement the disbelievers are calling the believers, the Angels are calling, the Shaytan is calling, the people are calling the Prophets, etc. Everyone is calling one another. There's so much going on. And we can reflect on this every time we go to an airport or a market.

-----------

The End of this Life and the Beginning of the Day of Judgement

In (39:68):

The trumpet will be blown.

What will happen when the trumpet is blown? In the Hadith:

“… then the Trumpet will be blown and no one will hear it but he will bend his neck to one side and raise it from the other side.

The first one who will hear it will be a man who is busy in setting right the cistern meant for supplying water to the camels. He will swoon and the other people will also swoon.

Then Allah will send or He will send down rain which will be like dew and there will grow out of it the bodies of people. Then the trumpet will be blown again, and they will stand up and begin to look around.”

The Day of Judgement will come all of a sudden - while everyone is busy in their lives. The most wicked of people will be alive at its onset.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: "The Last Hour would come (so sudden) that a person would be milking the she- camel and the (milk) would not reach the brim of the vessel that the Last Hour would come, and the two persons would be engaged in buying and selling of the clothes and their bargain would not be struck before the Last Hour would come. And someone would be setting his tank in order and he would have hardly set it right when the Last Hour would come."

Who will blow the trumpet? The Angel Israfeel. In a Hadith:

From Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah
ﷺ said: “The gaze of the one who will blow the Trumpet has been fixed since he was entrusted with it, looking towards the throne, ready (to blow it), in case he will be commanded to do so before he blinks, as if his eyes are two shining stars.”

On what day will this occur? Friday. This is why every Friday, before the sun rises, all the animals are afraid. In the Hadith:

"...There is no Angel who is close to Allah, no heaven, no earth, no wind, no mountain and no sea that does not fear Friday.” (Ibn Maajah)

Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "How can I feel at ease when the Angel of the Trumpet, (Israfil) has put his lips to the Trumpet and is waiting for the order to blow it". He (ﷺ) perceived as if this had shocked his Companions, so he (ﷺ) told them to seek comfort through reciting: 'Hasbunallah wa ni'mal-Wakil [Allah (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)]".

Everyone and everything will die. In (55:26-27):

55:27

Where are the disbelievers? Where are the sinners? Where are the kings of this world? In (40:16):

That's why in Surah AlFatihah:

The Kingdom and ownership of everyone will disappear. Don't be deceived with what you own, because everything will disappear - except Allah. We have no power or authority.

Then it'll rain.

The Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said: “Between the two blowings of the Trumpet there will be forty.”
The people said, “O Abu Hurayrah! Forty days?”
I said: “I am not sure.”
They said, “Forty years?”
I said: “I am not sure.”
They said, “Forty months?”
I said: “I am not sure. Then Alaah will send rain down from the sky and they will grow as herbs grow. There is no part of a man which will not decay except a single bone at the base of the coccyx, from which he will be re-created on the Day of Resurrection.”

Scientists say there is no purpose or benefit behind our tailbone. But it's the part of our body we'll be recreated from - it's like a seed.
There are people who are burnt, eaten by beasts, etc but their tailbone is somewhere on earth, even if it's in ashes. And they still face the punishment or delight of the grave.

And Allah knows which tailbone belongs to whom, and we will all be recreated at the same time. This is the ability of Allah. In (50:4):

There are so many parables in the Qur'an which make a resemblance between the rain we see now, and our recreation from our tailbones on the Day of Judgement. In (7:57):

Our bodies will be formed. Once the body is ready, Allah will command Israfeel to blow the trumpet for a second time. In (39:68):

In (36:51-52):

Our souls will then go into our bodies and we'll all come out of our graves. Every soul will go into its right body, there won't be any mistake. This shows us the ability of Allah.

The experience will be intense. In this Dunya we live a life of our bodies, and the effect is felt on our soul, when we dream and are in our graves we live a life of our souls and the effect is felt on our bodies. On the Day of Judgement we live a life of both the body and soul.

This disbelievers will say:

Reflect on this. Although the disbelievers are being punished and tortured in their graves, when the day of Judgement occurs they'll forget the punishment of the grave. Because the Day of Judgement is far more severe.
In (10:45):

They'll feel as if they were in the graves for an hour or so. We might not have seen each other for thousands or millions of years, but it'll just feel like an hour.

We can reflect on this when we travel. When we're traveling it feels like a long but by the time we arrive home it feels like we never left.

If you think about it, we live in the graves longer than we live our life on earth. If we feel this about our time in the grave - then how will our time in this Dunya feel? So don't prefer the Dunya over the next life. We forget all the pleasure and pain we feel in life. Work for eternity.

So when we're resurrected our senses will be different. They'll be sharper. Our eyes will be able to see the Angels, the Jinn, our good and bad deeds, the Hellfire, etc. Our bodies will never die. No matter how thirsty or hungry or how severe or intense the pleasure or punishment is, it will remain forever. That's why in (29:64):

Who will be the first person to wake up? The Prophet Muhammed ﷺ.

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not give me superiority over Moses, for on the Day of Resurrection all the people will fall unconscious and I will be one of them, but I will. be the first to gain consciousness, and will see Moses standing and holding the side of the Throne (of Allah). I will not know whether (Moses) has also fallen unconscious and got up before me, or Allah has exempted him from that stroke."

How long will the Day of Judgement be? 50,000 years. It'll feel long for some people, while for others it'll feel short. In a Hadith:

The Prophet ﷺ said: “For the believers, the (length of) the Day of Resurrection will be like the time between Dhuhr and ‘Asr.” [Reported by al-Haakim in al-Mustadrak, Saheeh al-Jaami’, 8193]

We can reflect on this when we stand in a que. There are some people that don't wait - they have a free pass or use fast track. Allah makes us experience these differences in life so that we may remember the Day of Judgement.

------------------

In (22:1-2):

In (80:33-37):

You'll know who your mother, father, brother is. You haven't seen them for ages. But you don't care about them - and you won't just not care - you'll flee from them. Why?

That's why we should live our lives for Allah. We won't care about anyone else on the Day of Judgement.

In (19:93-95):

We can reflect on this during exam time. You're so engrossed and focused on passing the exam you barely look at anyone else. After the exam everyone becomes relaxed.

What will happen to the earth? The land we'll be gathered, accounted, and judged, won't be the same land we're walking on. It'll be a wide, empty land, with no landmarks. There will be no sin committed on it.

In (14:48):

Allah gave us the heavens to protect us and as a sign, the earth to live and to be buried in it. He subjected the sun, moon, etc. for us. When the Day of Judgement arrives, they will cease to have a purpose. That's why everything will be destroyed.

During our exam all our papers and books are precious and have a value. After the exam we shred it and throw it away. In (84:1-5):

We have beautiful different scenery in the world, although it will all be destroyed. Allah made everything so perfect - with إحسان. This teaches us that even if something is going to be destroyed or thrown away, do it with إحسان. Allah is المحسن, He loves إحسان, and enjoined it on everyone. Take care of your house, children, even fold your bed with إحسان. And Allah will reward you for it. In (67:2):

What will happen to the seas?
It'll turn into fire and explode.

In (81:6):

In (82:3):

What will happen to the Mountains?
In (20:105-107):

Due to the lack of Mountains to hold the earth down - in (99:1):

What will happen to the sun?
It will slowly disappear and have its light cut off. This will happen in stages, as will with the mountain.  In (81:1):

What will happen to the stars? They will be dimmed. In (81:2):

In (39:67):

We don't estimate Allah as He deserves. On the Day of Judgement He will grasp the earth, and will roll up the seven heavens.

It is narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that-he said: "The seven heavens and seven earths will be as small in Allah's Hand as a seed of mustard in one of your hands."

So don't look at how small the sin is, look at how great the One who you are disobeying is. You are disobeying the One who is

So hasten to do good deeds and forgiveness, He is also الرحمن، الرحيم. We are so tiny, we are nothing, but Allah bestows so much favours on us. الحمد لله that Allah is our Rabb. He gave us opportunities to be close to Him - Don't waste them.

In (21:104):

How will we be resurrected?

Narrated `Aisha: Allah's Messenger ﷺ said, "The people will be gathered barefooted, naked, and uncircumcised."
I said, "O Allah's Messenger ﷺ! Will the men and the women look at each other?"
He said, "The situation will be too hard for them to pay attention to that."

When we have natural disasters in this life, people don't care what state they are in, their concern is to save themselves.
We begin this life with no clothes, we leave this life with barely any clothes, and we will be resurrected with no clothes.
But we won't remain naked.

In (7:26-27):

This came after the story of Adam. Clothes are a favour from Allah - to cover our Awraat and as an adornment. But something better than this - لباس التقوى. It's as if our real clothes are Taqwa. Our Taqwa will be a means of clothing on us on the Day of Judgement.

The Shaytan tries to adorn nudity. The more naked something is the more beautiful it is. But it's animals who walk around naked. Shaytan doesn't want us to be modest. He wants us to be exposed.

We have Awra of the heart. And we need to cover it with the clothing of Taqwa. What are the عيوب القلب? Envy, jealousy, pride, etc.

E.g. I'm jealous of a person. I patch it with Taqwa and make Dua for them. I don't react to the feeling, I do the opposite of what I feel. This isn't hypocrisy - it's Taqwa. We can't extract this from our heart. But we need to fear Allah as much as we can.

E.g. I hate someone. Instead of oppressing them, being mean towards them, I think positive of them. I look at their good qualities.

E.g. I excessively love a person - and this can lead to Shirk and attachment. So I think of that persons negative qualities to bring them down in my heart, so my relationship with them is for the sake of Allah. Whenever you excessively love someone, Allah will show you that persons defects. So don't excessively love anyone, you'll be the cause of their faults being exposed. Be moderate with your feelings.

According to how much Taqwa you have in this life, will you be clothed in the next. And Allah will extract these ill feelings from your heart in Paradise. In (15:47):
