Allah didn't mention what He would increase you in. This means that He will increase you in every good. Just be grateful, and Allah will increase you.
Many people come to study just to increase themselves in information. This isn't what we want though. We want beneficial knowledge that goes into our hearts, changes our behavior, way of thinking, affects our lives and actions, not just external knowledge to show the people that you know.
The most important knowledge that we should seek is the knowledge of Allah. Allah brought us in this life in order to know Him, and accordingly worship Him. This is the purpose behind our existence in life.
Why is it important to learn about Allah?
1) To achieve Steadfastness
We want to die as Muslims.
The Prophet ﷺ said "Whoever's last words are لا اله الا الله will enter Paradise" [Abu Dawud]
Everything in this life can be compensated for whether it's a house, money, job, husband. But to die without saying لا اله الا الله or losing Paradise, that has no compensation. You've lost.
We need to know who Allah is, and what the meaning of لا اله الا الله is, in order to die upon this word and enter Paradise.
It's important for us to know that:
Steadfastness is an action of Allah
In (14:27):
التثبيت is the action of Allah. I can't keep myself firm, it's Allah who keeps people firm on the right path.
But does He keep everyone firm? Only those who believe.
What does Allah keep them firm with? لا اله الا الله
How? Allah will make them act upon it in this world and do acts of worship based on it. They will end their lives with لا اله الا الله and Allah will keep them firm in answering the questions in the grave.
He lived in this Dunya with his heart attached to Allah, so as a recompense Allah kept him firm.
Allah set astray those who wronged themselves,
How did they wrong themselves? By Shirk, Kufr, doing wrong, etc.
"و يفعل الله ما يشاء"
Allah does whatever He wills. But the will of Allah is related to His wisdom and knowledge. He knows who deseves to die on لا اله الا الله and who doesn't. He guides whomever He wills and misguides whomever He wills.
Every matter has means to be taken. I have to take the means in order that Allah keeps me firm.
What are these means? Look in the previous verses (24-25):
The scholars said Allah resembles this tree with the heart of the believer.
لا اله الا الله is fixed firmly in his heart, like the roots of the tree.
Because this word is firmly fixed in his heart, he does abundant good deeds and utterances, and it extends high to the sky.
Allah accepts his good deeds, and accordingly gives fruits - which is the reward.
What does it mean when we say لا اله الا الله is firmly fixed in the heart of the believer? All of us say لا اله الا الله but the believer fulfills the conditions of لا اله الا الله.
The roots resemble the conditions of لا اله الا الله:
1) Knowledge
He has knowledge about Allah. He's not an ignorant. This knowledge led him to:
2) Certainty
3) Acceptance
4) Submission
5) Truthfulness
6) Sincerity
7) Love
Fulfilling the conditions of لا اله الا الله are a means of keeping a person firm. Especially nowadays, with all the فتن around us, whenever any doubt or desire comes, nothing will be able to shake or uproot this tree.
Practically, what should I do?
1) Learn about Allah
How can I be ignorant about Allah and the greatest verse in the Qur'an (Ayat alKursi) consists of 27 Names and Attributes of Allah?
How can I be ignorant about Allah and Surah Ikhlas which talks about Allah is considered equal to 1/3rd of the Qur'an?
How can I remain ignorant about my Creator who created me?
The more you learn about Allah, the more your heart will be attached to Him. And you will live as one on earth for the One in the heavens.
People say so and so is a good teacher, etc. but when لا اله الا الله is firmly fixed in your heart, you will know that it is Allah teaching you, Allah benefiting you, Allah making you understand. Don't let your heart get distracted and attached to the people.
If you live as one on earth for the One in the heavens throughout your life, you will die upon it.
E.g. In the middle of the night I'm alone and I have a pain in my body. Everyone is sleeping. At that exact moment where does your heart run to? If you really live for Allah it'll run to Him. He is the One who never sleeps, while everyone around you is dead/asleep. The One in charge of everyone. If you just called out يا رب in your moment of distress, Allah would respond to you.
Allah makes us go through situations like these in order for our hearts to be attached to Him alone.
