Don't think الحمد لله I'm a peaceful person, everyone around me loves me and I love them, this doesn't apply to me, etc.
Allah will test you.
Allah will test you.
Out of Allah's mercy, He wouldn't test you until He prepares you with knowledge. And if you fail, He'll give you another test. If you pass, Allah will elevate you in ranks.
Ibn Taymiya said there are 20 points, if you remember them you'll be patient:
1) Remember that Allah is the creator of the actions of the people.
Whatever Allah wants will happen. Whatever He doesn't will won't happen. Nothing moves in the universe, not even an atom, except by His will. Don't look at the slave, look at the One who gave them the power to take the action. This will give you relief.
When you know this, you'll go to the second point:
2) Remember your sin.
Allah wants to warn you, to remind you. It's a message from Allah. He wants you to repent, to reach Him without any sin. Don't look at the people, look at Allah.
No slave should hope except His lord, and no slave should fear except His sin - Ali Ibn Abi Talib
3) Remember the good reward Allah promises you if you forgive.
Don't be patient outwardly while your heart is burning with hatred. This is the hypocrite. His outside is better than his inside, whereas the believer is better inside than outside.
People in front of harm are three types:
1) Oppressors - They take more than their rights
E.g. When we tell our children to not be weak but show that they are strong. We're teaching our children to be oppressors.
2) مقتصد - Harm them with a harm equal to what you received
3) محسن - Forgive and leave your right.
This life isn't the life for taking rights. Give the person their right and ask yours from Allah.
Narrated Abdullah: Allah's Apostle said to us, "You will see after me, selfishness (on the part of other people) and other matters that you will disapprove of." They asked, "What do you order us to do, O Allah's Apostle? (under such circumstances)?" He said, "Pay their rights to them (to the rulers) and ask your right from Allah." [Bukhari]
In (25:20):
"و جعلنا بعضكم لبعض فتنة أتصبرون"
Allah is testing you with them and testing them with you.
4) Remember that if you forgive, pardon, and be patient it will give you soundness of the heart.
You will reach the sweetness of forgiveness. Allah will love you. They harmed you but you reached a high level with Allah.
5) Know that if you take revenge, this will lead to your humiliation. If you forgive, Allah will honour you
The Prophet ﷺ, "...no one forgives except that Allah increases his honour.." (Muslim)
6) The recompense is equal to the deed.
7) If you get busy with revenge and thinking about it, you'll waste your time and lose your heart.
Even in prayer you'll be busy thinking, planning, and plotting. If you pardon and forgive you will empty your heart and body and be busy with things which benefit you. The most precious thing we have is our time. And our time is our life.
We should collect our heart on a certain aim and goal - Allah and the hereafter.
8) Remember that the Prophet ﷺ never took revenge for himself at all, and he is the best of all people, and honourable to Allah. He was harmed. If we know this, how can we take revenge for ourselves while we are full of shortcomings and our manners aren't like the manners of the Prophet ﷺ.
In (33:21):
The Prophet ﷺ never took revenge for himself for his own sake, but when Allah's laws were crossed, he would take revenge for Allah's sake.
Reasons we receive harm from people:
a) Because of the Deen; enjoining good and forbidden evil, calling to Allah, etc.
E.g. You are in a gathering and you tell your nephew to go pray and he gets angry.
Don't take revenge. Be patient because you did it for Allah. Wait for your reward from Allah.
b) Due to a calamity
E.g. A woman forgot to switch off the stove and her kitchen went on fire. Because of this her husband shouted at her and called her careless, etc. This is a harm that happened to her due to a calamity.
Instead of saying my husband is always shouting at me, I didn't do anything, etc. let her blame herself. Calamities happen because of our sins.
c) Due to a right not being fulfilled or taken away from you
Remember that you will not reach any goal in this Dunya unless you are patient. If you are a trader you need to endure traveling and bad weather and long distances to get the money in the end. You need patience.
