سورة السجدة - Class 4b - 7/2/16

Verse 4:

No one brings good to us except Allah, no one removes harm from us except Allah, no one created us,  the heavens and the earth except Allah. When I know this then I should worship Allah alone. How can I worship other than the one who created me, brings good to me, sustains me, removes harm from me?

We shouldn't just inherit the religion from our parents and do the physical actions while our heart has nothing to do with the religion.

People worship idols because they think these idols can hear them, respond them, see them, etc. The first step to worshipping idols is believing that these idols have perfect attributes. The more you contemplate over the perfect attributes of Allah, the more you will attach your heart to Him, love Him, and worship Him. The more you know about Allah, the more you will abstain from sins.

Verse 5:

الأمر is of two kinds:
1) Legislative - (The commands, the religion, etc.)
2) Decreed -  (The Qadar)

Allah runs all the affairs. In one day He gives wealth to some, makes poor others, humiliates some, honours others, makes healthy that one, causes the other to fall sick, etc.

When you know that Allah, who has all these perfect attributes, is running your affairs, you will be content regardless what happens to you. This is the Muslim.

These affairs go down to earth.

"ثم يعرج إليه"
What goes up?
The deeds of the people of the earth, or the Angels, or Jibreel, or the souls.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Angels come to you in succession by night and day and all of them get together at the time of the Fajr and `Asr prayers. Those who have passed the night with you (or stayed with you) ascend (to the Heaven) and Allah asks them, though He knows everything about you, well, “In what state did you leave my slaves?” The angels reply: “When we left them they were praying and when we reached them, they were praying.”  [Bukhari]

When we talk about the distance in space we don't measure it in terms of kilometers or miles, but in light years.
The distance between the heavens and the earth is 500 years, so when the أمر descends and goes up it takes 1000 years.

In (22:47):

Verse 6:

Allah tells us 3 of His perfect attributes:

1) Knowledge
2) His Might (عزة القهر)
No one can change what Allah ordained.

3) His Mercy

In Verse 4 Allah talks about the creation. He created the creation with His knowledge, wisdom, and might. Is it possible for a creator to create whilst he doesn't have knowledge?

Allah then talks about a specific creation; the human being:

Verse 7:

"الذي أحسن كل شيئ خلقه"
This has two meanings:
-> Allah perfected His creation.
-> Allah taught each of creation how to live and what to do. He taught the birds to build nests. The bees to make honey.

Verse 8:

Allah is telling us our beginning. We are weak.

Verse 9:

"روحه"

Allah connects two things to Himself:
1) His Attributes (E.g. كلام الله)
2) One of His creation (E.g. ناقة الله)

Allah created the soul.

Abdullah Ibn Masud narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said,
“Each one of you is constituted in the womb of the mother for forty days, and then he becomes a clot of thick blood for a similar period, and then a piece of flesh for a similar period. Then Allah sends an angel who is ordered to write four things. He is ordered to write down his deeds, his livelihood, his (date of) death, and whether he will be blessed or wretched (in religion). Then the soul is breathed into him…” [Bukhari]
We are asked to be grateful. The first way to show gratitude is to worship Allah alone.
