Q. What's wrong with celebrating the birthday of the Prophet ﷺ? This is a good innovation!
A. Allah said in (5:3)
People gather, eat, drink, even dance, claiming they do this out of love for him. If this was something good, Allah's Messenger ﷺ would have been the first to do it. But neither he ﷺ, nor his companions, nor the early generations did this.
This is something that started in the 3rd Century.
As for claiming that it is a good innovation, the Prophet ﷺ said: "...Abstain from innovations, for every kind of innovation is a bid'ah, and every bid'ah is misguidance and all misguidance leads to hellfire" [Sunan Abu Dawud, Kitab-us-Sunnah, Book 40 Hadith number 4590]
In addition to this, celebrating the birthday of the Prophet ﷺ is one of the means of committing Shirk. In it you find people invoking and imploring the Prophet ﷺ instead of Allah.
During these gatherings they do other disgraceful deeds which aren't worthy of being mentioned.
Q. The Christians celebrate Christmas in honour of Christ, and our Prophet ﷺ deserves more honour from us?
A. Veneration for the Prophet ﷺ is accomplished by following His Sunnah, acting upon his manners, actions, and Aqeedah, not in a manner that's not ordained by him and Allah.
Q. People use the Hadith:
Abu Qataadah al-Ansaari that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about fasting on Mondays and he said: “On (that day) I was born and on it Revelation came down to me.” (Muslim)
As evidence to justify their celebrations.
A. The Prophet ﷺ said fast, not celebrate. People feast on what they consider the Prophets birthday.
And he ﷺ fasted on the day, not the date, and this year the 12th falls on a Wednesday.
Attending these gatherings is also حرام, because you are participating in them with their evil and increasing them in number.
It is also حرام to eat from that meat because it was slaughtered for that purpose
