Sunday 9 - (6/12/15) - العزيز 6

Continuation: How can I worship Allah by His name العزيز?

1) Have إيمان in this Name.
Believe that no one can overcome Allah, العزيز. This knowledge makes the believer strong and courageous.

2) Know that Allah's عزة is connected to His حكمة.
Allah's decrees befall us by His عزة, and nothing He decrees happens without a wisdom or a purpose.

3) Know that Guidance is connected to Allah's عزة.

In (14:4):

What is the relationship between العزيز الحكيم and guidance?
Sometimes when you advise a person who is doing wrong, they say 'Allah didn't will for me to be guided' and use this verse and the like to justify this claim.
Allah knew in advance that He would send Messengers to guide people, and wrote this in The Preserved Tablet. By His will, He sent these Messengers with guidance as a test for us. Allah then created in us the ability and strength to take an action.
If you obeyed, submitted, and accepted the message of the messenger, you passed the test. Accordingly, the second decree will be that Allah will guide you.
If, however, you rejected guidance and turned away from the message, you failed the test and the second decree will be your misguidance.
Don't neglect your role; you need to take the means of guidance.

By Allah's عزة, He sent Messengers, and misguides and guides.Whomever Allah guides, no one can misguide. And whomever Allah misguides, no one can guide. Why? Because He is العزيز.

He is also الحكيم. He will not guide the person who didn't accept the message, nor will He misguide the person who accepted the message. He puts everything in its right place.

Sometimes we are so keen to guide a particular person and we find that the more attention we give them and the more keen we are, the more averted they become. Why? Allah turned their hearts away in order to teach you that He is العزيز, and that guidance is in His hand, not in ours.

In (80:1-10):

Allah narrates an event that happened with the Prophet ﷺ. While he was teaching the Chiefs of the Quraish, Abdullah bin Umm-Maktoum, who was blind, came to seek knowledge. The Prophet ﷺ, out of his keenness to guide the Chiefs, turned away from him and focused on them. He  thought that if they were guided the whole tribe would become Muslim. He ﷺ didn't know that his responsibility wasn't to guide, but to merely convey the message. The Chiefs felt in no need to know about religion, nor did they care or give heed to it.

This shows us that when we teach people, we should not focus on a particular person or a group of people and be keen on them. This may cause them to turn away and reject the message. In the end, it's not our responsibility to guide people; it's to show and teach. Do so and leave them. If they are truthful, Allah will guide them. And if they are not, Allah will misguide them.
Don't kill yourself out of grief because they're not accepting the message. Guidance is in Allah's hand.
Also, it may not be the right time for that person to be guided. Allah knows the right time, because He is الحكيم.

How should I behave?

1) Know that you are commanded to guide and call people to purify themselves, but your job is limited to calling, clarifying, and explaining. Deliver the message, but don't be حريص. You don't have to run after them and force them to accept the message.
"و ما عَلِيك الا يزكى"

2) Be a slave of Allah. Submit to Allah's will. Believe that whatever Allah ordained will happen, and whatever He ordains is a test for you. Don't feel bad if the person doesn't accept your advice. Your words don't reach people's hearts by your effort. Allah is the One who guides, not you. No matter how much you tire and work to educate people, if Allah doesn't will for them to be guided, they won't be.

This is also a test for your sincerity and truthfulness. Ask yourself, Why are you so keen to guide that particular person? Is it because she is a noble person, or you love her, or because of another personal interest, etc? Whenever you find yourself concentrating on a certain person then analyze the matter. Many a time we focus on a certain somebody because our hearts are attached to them. It's important to keep personal feelings out of your Da'wah, otherwise it'll affect it.

3) Focus on the seekers of knowledge.
You should give more attention to the one who wants to learn. Leave the one who turns away to Allah. It is not your duty to ensure if a person who doesn't want to seek guidance and purity is pure and guided.

4) Pray for them.

In (16:37):

Allah is العزيز. Whatever He wills will happen. He knows who deserves to be guided and who doesn't.
You just do your best to guide the people generally, and Allah will guide whomever He wills among them.

E.g. You have students who don't have تعظيم of Allah, and a few amongst them are extremely argumentative. Don't prepare a lecture directed to these two or three people, leaving what the majority as a group need.

E.g. A mother does her best to guide her children and keep them away from bad influences. One of her children ends up going astray, and she wonders why this is happening.
How would you explain the situation to her? By telling her that Allah is العزيز, and guidance is in His hand. It is He who turns and guides the hearts.
Also, when she took the means she relied on herself and the means instead of trusting Allah. This is why she failed.

There was a mother who brought up her son on righteousness. She was very proud of him and would often compare him to other children, looking down upon them and their mother's efforts in bringing them up. This son ended up relapsing. Previously, he had used to pray all his prayers in the Masjid. Now, he completely abandoned the prayer. He started committing sins until he reached a point where he would begin to beat her. At this, the mother recognized her mistake and confessed that it was her own fault. Allah was nurturing her. She had attributed his guidance to herself, when it was Allah who had guided and blessed her son. For three years she prayed and cried and asked Allah to guide her son again, until one night her son coming crying to her begging for forgiveness.

Take the means, guide, and advise but know that guidance is up to Allah. Don't ever be proud and attribute it to yourself.

Constantly seek refuge in the عزة of Allah from misguidance, because guidance and misguidance is connected with His عزة.

4) Knowing Allah by His name العزيز will give you peace and tranquility.
Nothing can happen without the will of Allah. No one can harm you without Allah's permission. No one can benefit you except by Allah's permission.
When you know this, you wouldnt destroy yourself with sorrow and regret if you missed out on a worldly matter.

E.g. You own a piece of land. Another person came to know that the government is planning to start up a project in that area, so he buys this land from you for a cheap price. You didn't know and sold it to him. A year passes by and all the prices shoot up and this man is able to sell your land for triple the price.
Normally, one would feel upset, cheated, and deceived.
The person who knows Allah by His name العزيز knows that this is a decree of Allah, and no one can repel it. Allah's command is executive, and there is good in it for you.
Yes, the person may have deceived you, but you won't get everything here in this world. Know that whoever is cheated and oppressed in this world, the matter doesn't end here; it will be dealt with in the next life.
The believer, who believes in the عزة of Allah, will not say 'If' I had known this before I would have done such-and-such. "لو" opens the door for the Shaytan to mess with your mind.
The believer will say Qadar Allah and feel at rest.

Apply this example to everything in this world whether it is marriage, a job, sickness, etc.

5) Believing in the name of Allah العزيز will cause you to feel at rest towards your رزق.

In (42:19):

اللطيف has two meanings:
1) Knowledge
2) Kindness

Allah's رزق is connected to His knowledge, kindness, will, strength, and عزة. In order to understand the رزق, you need to understand these attributes of Allah.

Because Allah is kind to His slaves, and knows what is good for them, He gives them provision according to His will.

E.g. If He knows that broadening the Dunya for a servant will cause him to be heedless and diverted from the remembrance of Allah, or cause him to commit a sin, Allah will create a barrier between the person and attaining that worldly matter.
He will give him the perfect amount to keep his ايمان safe. Giving the person more or less may corrupt him.

You may work harder for a promotion or more money and you will not get except what Allah has written for you. Don't blame people. Allah didn't give you more than what you need because it is not good for you. Because Allah is kind to you. And yet you are killing yourself to get more.

How many times have we got upset because of worldly matters, not understanding this fact. No one can bring you the رزق of Allah if He wills to prevent it from for you, because He is العزيز. And Allah, العزيز, is able to give you your رزق. Don't worry about it, He will give you exactly what you need.

رزق could be religious or worldly, and it could be in this world or in the next.
E.g. Even love is a رزق. You may have a son who loves you a lot, and a daughter who doesn't like you as much. This is all رزق from Allah.  "يرزق من يشاء"
Don't be attached to anyone. Attach yourself to Allah and He will give you.

The name of Allah العزيز relates to our lives so much.
