The true bearer of the Qur'an recites the Qur'an while taking account of himself:

He asks himself these 41 statements. When he recites the Qur'an, he recites it with understanding, reflecting over what he is reciting, and asking himself if he is applying what he recites. If he doesn't act upon it he reprimands himself.

E.g. Whenever he passes by a verse about الصبر and sees himself not patient in situations he asks himself, "When will I be one of the صابرين?"

He presents himself to the verse he recites.

Every time he passes by a noble character and a high moral he educates and enforces himself to carry out the matter which Allah mentioned in that verse. This is how we should behave with the Qur'an.

His concern is to understand that which Allah has imposed upon him, following his command and avoiding his prohibitions.

When will I beware that which my Lord has warned me of: a fire whose heat is severe; its depth is great and its grief is lengthy. Its inhabitants do not die that they may rest; their sins are not forgiven; their tears are not shown mercy.
Every time their skins are roasted, they are replaced with new ones so that they will taste the punishment. They regret when regret does not benefit them, and they bite upon their hands in sorrow at their falling short in obeying Allah and their embarking on the disobedience of Allah.

While doing this, he reminds himself of the Day when he will meet Allah and stand in front of Allah and Allah will take account of him. He reminds himself of the punishment Allah had prepared for those who disobey Him, and the reward for those who act upon His command. He reminds himself of the different kinds of remorse and regret people will have on the Day of Judgement. He doesn't want to be of these people.

Thus one of them says:

Another says:

Another says:

Another says:

Another group of them says, with their faces turning in different kinds of punishment:

One of the Salaf took a person who was driven away by the Dunya to the graveyard and said, "If you were in their place what would you wish for?" He said, "I would wish Allah would send me back to this life to do the acts of righteousness which I didn't do" He said, "You are now living your wish; so take action and don't waste your time and life"

The bearer of the Qur'an doesn't need to go to the graveyard, because when he recites the Qur'an these scenes come alive in his eyes. When Allah speaks about the Day of Judgement in the Qur'an it is as if he's standing in the place of gathering. He lives every verse he recites.

Reprimanding oneself and educating it with one Qur'an brings great fruits. But we need to train ourselves upon this because we are not used to reciting the Qur'an in this way.

So this is the fire, O assembly of Muslims, O Bearers of the Qur'an! Allah has warned the believers of it more than one place in His book, out of mercy from Him towards the believers. Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said:

He also said:

He then warned the believers against being heedless of what Allah has obligated upon them and what He has entrusted to them not to lose, and to guard His limits that He has entrusted to them, and not to be like the others who rebelled against His command so He punished them with different types of punishment. Thus He said:

He then informed the believers that the People of the Fire and the People of the Garden are not equal, saying:

He mentions examples from the Qur'an which revive your heart and increase your awareness of the next life, thus helping you be of the صابرين، متقين، etc.

This is how we should read the Qur'an. We have to read every verse, pause, reflect, and check ourselves. If you are not applying it reprimand yourself, and then take the means to apply it.

We have to bring up ourselves and our family members according to the Qur'an.
