We need three characteristics in order to be a bearer of the Qur'an:
1) Reciting the Qur'an regardless if it is easy or difficult for you.
2) Recite the Qur'an repeatedly
3) Act upon the Qur'an.
The bearer of the Qur'an is not the one who merely memorises the Qur'an. Many people equate the two. If you bear the Qur'an it should have an effect on your attitude, behaviour, thoughts, and conduct.
Characteristics of the Bearer of the Qur'an: (Countinuation)
1) He loves with knowledge, He hates with knowledge.
2) He speaks about peoples faults with knowledge, He remains silent about their faults with knowledge.
Ex. In the science of Hadith, in order to classify Hadiths they would have to criticise certain narrators. This is required legally, and it's not considered backbiting.
Ex. You are allowed to talk about a potential spouses blameworthy characteristics.
Ex. When you are seeking a Fatwa and you have to describe a person or situation. Although it's better to ask generally than to specify.
Ex. If you need to warn someone of an innovator or a deviant person. But only talk about the mistake, don't go into extremes and start attacking them personally.
People abuse and defame people without having any evidence against them from the Qur'an and Sunnah. The bearer of the Qur'an talks about people with knowledge. People talk nowadays without fear of Alla
And if a person has a blameworthy character, the bearer of the Qur'an will not talk and discuss it with others. If you have nothing good to say about someone, keep silent.
3) He has made the Qur'an, Sunnah, and Fiqh his guide to every good and beautiful quality.
This is an indication for his success and happiness in this world and next. As a person's good conduct increases, as his rank with Allah increases.
HADITH: "The nearest and dearest to me among you is the best in conduct"
4) He guards all his limbs from what has been forbidden.
He guards his hand, his eyes, his tongue, his ears, etc. from committing حرام.
Ex. (24:30-31)
Women think that lowering gaze only applies to Men, although Allah commanded both genders with the same thing.
Allah didn't specify what to lower our gaze from.
"And don't stretch your eyes to what allah has given to other people"
Ex. When you look constantly at other peoples things, bags, watches, clothes, etc. Looking at what other people have.
Ex. Looking into other people's houses.
Lowering your gaze is an act of worship that you'll be rewarded for. When you fear Allah and are aware of Allah's observation on you, doing this will be easy.
5) If he walks, he walks with knowledge. If he sits, he sits with knowledge.
He will not take a single step without checking if it's right or not.
This shows us that the bearers of the Qur'an require knowledge. He is بصير and has بصيرة. He sees with his heart.
Someone who has a sound فطرة but doesn't have much knowledge may go to a place and not feel good about it. He doesn't know why but he felt uncomfortable. The bearer of the Qur'an not only feels bad about it but he can explain why as well.
He quits with knowledge. If he knows a place is affecting the level of his faith, he avoids that place.

The Characteristics of the Hypocrites in Surah Taubah:-
Bukhari mentioned in كتاب الفتن the Hadith of Hudayfah Ibn Yaman: "It was hypocrisy that existed in the lifetime of the Prophet, but today it is Kufr after belief. Their way of disclosing their hypocrisy is by rebellion against the rulers, competing for the Dunya, using righteous people for this purpose"
Today the hypocrites disclose their disbelief without fear. Hudayfah is talking about how it was during his time, how about now?
The hypocrites nowadays are more evil than the ones in the past because they reveal their hypocrisy. They kindle the fire among the believers to rebel against the rulers. All the فتنة that happens in the Muslim world nowadays is kindled by the hypocrites.
They twist and send messages from the Hadith and Qur'an that serves their aims, and the ignorant Muslims are fooled and respond to their call. They raise doubts in the hearts of the believers and sow enmity between the Muslims. They don't want the Muslims to be united.
If you refer to the Qur'an and Sunnah you will find what is happening in the world clearly is not right. سورة المؤمنون talks about how the believers are divided into sects, and Allah hates that.
The bearer of the Qur'an will not talk about the mistakes of the people. The hypocrites will scandalise and make it apparent, instead of advising the person secretly.
Hypocrisy is divided into:
1) Major Hypocrisy
2) Minor Hypocrisy
The Qur'an talks mostly about major hypocrisy. If Allah mentions a punishment, it means it's major hypocrisy. Major hypocrisy dooms a person to Hell. Minor hypocrisy is a major sin which if not fought against can lead the person to major hypocrisy. Don't belittle minor hypocrisy.
If a person dies without repentance and has this major sin, He may be one of the people of the Hellfire for some time.
The most distinctive characteristics of the person who is condemned with major hypocrisy is that he had faith then lost it.
In (63:3)
"ذللك بأنهم ءامنوا ثم كفروا فطبع على قلوبهم فهم لا يفقهون"
In (4:137-139)
They believed, then disbelieved, then believed, then disbelieved, then increased in disbelief. This is happening in the heart of the person and he doesn't feel it. "و هم لا يشعرون"
The person looks apparently Muslim, but his heart is believing and disbelieving until Allah sealed his heart.
Why does this happen?
In (2:17)
Imagine a person on a journey. He entered a cave which was totally dark. So he sought fire. When he kindled the fire, it lighted everything around him. Then Allah took away this light.
Did Allah wrong them, or did they do something so that Allah took away their light?
When you kindle a fire you need wood. If you don't bring more wood the fire will eventually extinguish. The person saw and knew the reality of this world, and the reality of the next, and the reality of Allah. But because didn't take care of maintaining his faith, and didn't take the means of increasing it, his faith slowly died.
He didn't acquire knowledge about the Qur'an, and didn't do good deeds, didn't implement what he learnt, didn't change his companions, etc.
Accompanying good people is not like accompanying people of this world. The people of this world will drag you away from Allah. Good companions will constantly remind you of Allah.
This person neglected his faith, in this way he lost his light. Allah took away their light because they didn't maintain it.
"صُم بكم عمي فهم لا يرجعون"
Apparently the person looks good, but there are no feelings in her heart. Check your feelings when you hear about hellfire, the day of judgement, etc. This is how you can measure your faith.
If a person is reminded about Allah and the Day of Judgment and it had no effect, it is an indication that his heart is hardened.
There are hypocrites whom Eeman never entered their hearts. They entered into Islam for a personal interest. These aren't the people whom we are discussing. The former is more dangerous.
The causes of losing faith in a nutshell:-
1) Not taking the means of increasing and maintaining their faith.
They don't give heed to their faith, Their main concern is attaining this world. They don't care about their position with Allah, the next world, etc. at all.
The most important characteristic of the hypocrites is that they are not truthful.
In (63:1)
The person who testifies is informing us of something that is already established in his heart. There should be a conformity between his tongue and heart.
The hypocrites are liars, when they said 'نشهد' they are telling us what is established in the hearts, and that's not what's really established in their hearts.
Why do they lie?
(63:2)
Their oaths are a protection/screen. They want to protect themselves and take benefit. Their aim is worldly interests. They want to keep their good image in front of the Muslims so they pretend they are supporting Islam.
They exposed their hearts to فتنة.
If you go to the sinners amongst the Muslims they will admit their faults and ask Allah to forgive them. But the hypocrites always think they are right and everyone else is wrong. You can't advise them because they don't take advice.
2) They don't pay attention to the hereafter
3) They covet after this world. It is their utmost goal, and will attain it by any means available. They don't mind lying and deceiving to attain it. They think good of themselves. They think they are righteous.
We have to check our statements. Is there a conformity between our statements and what is established in our hearts? If there is a contradiction it means that person is a liar.
They say that they love Allah and if you look at her actions it's contrary to what she says. What is established in our heart should appear in our limbs.
Love is not with tongue, it is with the heart.
The hypocrite and the believer resemble each other in outward appearances. They do the same actions. But they will be distinguished on the Day of Judgement.
Allah will give light to both of them, but the hypocrites light will be extinguished due to four things:
(57:13-14)
1) فتنتم انفسكم
When you want to purify gold from impurities you expose it to a high flame. This person exposed his faith to fire of فتنة, he burnt it.
There are two kinds of فتنه:
1) The one Allah afflicts with as a test, and if the person is truthful, Allah will save them. This is the Sunnah of Allah.
2) The one where the person put himself in فتنة.
This person has three descriptions:
a) He has no fear of فتنة.
b) He has confidence in himself. (ثقه بالنفس)
c) He exposed himself for a desire, or a worldly interest.
Ex. A man looks pious. He received a job opportunity to work in a mixed place. You may advise him against it, but he has confidence in himself.
Although the Prophet said, "I have not let after me a فتنة more harmful to men than women"
He says his Eeman is strong. And he is accepting this job because of high position, money, etc.
Ex. A woman gets a marriage proposal from a man from a deviated sect. She says she can change him after they get married, etc.
All the people who exposed themselves to فتنه, exposed themselves because of these three things.
Ex. Many people go to gatherings of deviated sects out of curiosity, and they didn't have sufficient knowledge and faith, they absorbed their disbelief.
Ex. A person associates excessively with the people of this world in pleasure and enjoyment, and he was driven away from the right path.
This world is so tempting. The scholars said, "If the person is drowned in this world, no one can extend his hand to help him, except those whom Allah have mercy on"
The Dunya captures a person's heart.
Whoever will drink from this world he will never be satisfied until it kills his heart.
Ex. The person could be exposing himself to doubtful matters.
The Prophet said, "there are doubtful and clear matters, don't approach doubtful matters, save your religion"
Whoever indulges in doubtful matters will fall into Haraam.
The person exposes himself and his faith to the danger of these places and matters.
2) تربصتم
3) ًارتبتم
4) غرتكم الأماني
