سنة = Everything the Prophet said, did, and approved of.
The religion as a whole is the سنة of the Prophet.
HADITH: I have been granted the Qur'an and something equivalent to it
The Quranists who neglect the Sunnah and raise doubts about it are wrong because Allah commanded us to obey Him and the Messenger. How can you obey the messenger when you abandon what He said, did, and approved of? And it is the Prophet who explained the Qur'an to us. Allah taught Him the Qur'an.
If you really believe in the Qur'an, you should believe in the Sunnah.
Some people follow certain schools of thought and reject others.
Abu Hanifa said, "When a Hadith is found to be Saheeh then that is my Madhhab"
And he said, "When I say something contradicting the book of Allah the exalted or what is narrated from the Messenger, then ignore my saying"
Imam Malik said, "Truly I am only a mortal; I make mistakes (sometimes) and I am correct (sometimes). Therefore, look into my opinions: all that agrees with the book and the sunnah, accept it; and all that does not agree with the book and the Sunnah, ignore it"
Imam Shaafi'i said, "If you find in my writing something different to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, then speak on the basis of the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, and leave what I have said"
Ahmed bin Hanbal said, "Do not follow my opinion; neither follow the opinion of Malik, nor Shafi'i, nor Awzaai, nor Thawri, but take from where they took"
[Taken from: The Prophets Prayer by Al-Albani]
The person who follows the correct Sunnah will attain happiness in this world and in the next. He will perfect his faith if he follows the Sunnah.
20:124
This includs both the Qur'an and Sunnah.
Don't reject the Sunnah based on thoughts and opinions. As long as you have received correct Hadith then hold fast to it. And this is the methodology of all the four Imams
"If you obey the Prophet Muhammed you will be guided"
Allah said in Surah Nur,
Whether or not the ruling was in your favour you should not feel upset.
ثم لا يجد في أنفسهم حرج مما قضيت
We have to accept whatever the Prophet judged with, with a good heart.
