This Hadith tells us that every creature will die and no one will remain alive except Allah الحي القيوم.
الحي is the ever living, the One who never dies. If everyone around us dies except allah then why should we attach our hearts to people who die?
It doesn't matter how long we'll live, in the end death will be our end. A life that ends with death is not a true, real life.
Allah made this life an abode of trial. It is full of Imbitterment, distresses, etc. There is no one but they have a problem in their life. Allah made the life of this world full of trials.
If you display the life of the people, you can find if the person has a good wife he doesn't have good children, and if he has a good children he doesn't have a good wife, if he has both good wife and children he suffers from poverty, or he may have all but he'll suffer from illness. No ones life is perfect. Allah wants to tell us that this life is not the abode of settlement. The eternal life is the life in the hereafter. That is the life worthy of living.
This is not the life Allah wants for us. He wants the life of the hereafter for us.
This life is a preparation for the hereafter. It is just a passage, a crossway to the real, true life. That is the life worthy of living.
Allah called Jannah دار سلام
It is the abode of peace, safety, soundness. It is clear from every trouble and sickness. This is the abode we should look forward to.
The person who knows the reality of this life will work for the next. Allah chose the hereafter to be our final abode.
Whoever knows the reality of this life will not rejoice for its pleasures nor will he be sad for its distresses. It is a deceiving pleasure. متاع الغرور.
He knows it's just a trial and a test. Today he is happy tomorrow he is sad, today he is sad tomorrow he'll be happy.
When you come across prosperity be grateful and you will be rewarded, when you come across distress be patient and you will be rewarded. Be in between these two acts of worship: صبر and شكر until you die.
This life is full of disliked things in order that our heart won't be attached to it.
If you know the reality of Allah, this life, and the next, your heart will become soft. A soft hearted person isn't an emotional person, the soft hearted person is the person who has feelings towards the unseen.
Ex. If you hear the word Jannah, does your heart move? Is there any feeling? Or do you feel nothing?
You hear the description of the hellfire and its people. Does your heart move with fear? If your heart doesnt move it means you have no feelings towards the unseen. It means your heart is hardened.
When the soft hearted person hears about Jannah his heart longs for it.
The word death is something scary for the unbelievers. They don't want to hear about death. They just want to enjoy themselves to the maximum because they are scared and running away from death. And allah says, "قل أنا لموت الذي تفرون ملاقيكم"
Nowadays people conduct experiments to make themselves live longer. Will this protect them from death? This is the destiny of everyone. You will meet death in the end.
The unbeliever runs away from death, and for the true believer death is a moment of happiness, because he knows there is a meeting with Allah whom he loved throughout His life. He yearned the meeting of Allah. Death causes him happiness.
The believer is the one who spent his life obeying allah in doing good, helping the people, abiding to the law of Allah, is cautious in avoiding the unlawful and doing the lawful in regards to his food, clothes, earning, etc.
he is always thinking about doing the action that pleases allah. He is the person whom death is a moment of happiness.
He lived in this life to please Allah, every action he takes was to please Allah.
If you know that this life ends with death then you have to prepare for that day, when the Angels of death come to take the soul of the human.
When Jibreel came to the Prophet and made him choose between living in this world or death, He chose death.
He looked forward to meeting the Highest Companion. The believer knows the reality of things.
No one deserves our hearts to be attached to more than Allah. If you are going to meet Allah, will you please people at the expense of Allah's pleasure?
We need to know Allah by His names, attributes, and actions from the Qur'an and Sunnah.
الحي ، القيوم
Allah's life is perfect, it is not preceded with inexistence nor is it ended with death. No fatigue, illness, touches Him.
If Allah's life is perfect then all His essential attributes are perfect. His hearing is perfect, His seeing is perfect, etc.
In our فطرة we love perfection. Whenever you hear about someone who is perfect in their manners, way of life, etc. you would naturally hope to meet them. When you hear that Allah is perfect in all aspects, this should make your heart attached to Him.
Allah is القيوم. He is القائم على نفسه. He is rich, self subsisting, He doesn't need anyone or anything. We are in need all the time. We need food, rest, love, sleep, etc.
All is in need of no one and everyone is in need of Him.
Allah is in charge of disposing the affairs of every creation, whether they are humans, animals, Jinn, etc.
He creates them, provides for them, guides them, protects them, etc
The scholars said الحي entails all the essential attributes, and القيوم entails all the practical attributes (actions i.e. Giving life, causing death, giving, taking, etc.)
All the names of Allah fall under the names الحي القيوم.
Allah is قائم over every soul. Since you were a نطفه in the womb of your mother, Allah is قائم over you. Then you became an علاقه، مدغع, made you go from one stage to another until you were fully created in the womb of your mother. Then he brought us out of our mothers wombs. Then he provides for us, protects us, makes us see, talk, walk. Parents think they are the ones teaching their kids, but it is Allah who takes care of every person.
He takes care of you until you die.
Then why isn't our hearts attached to Him? Because of ignorance. We don't understand the meaning of القيوم and we don't notice the impact of Allah's قيوميه.
We don't deal with the Qur'an as we should, and this is making us have weak belief. This makes our heart attached to other people and not Him.
People who invoke the dead, they leave الحي and invoke dead people who can't hear them. The more you think and contemplate on the names of Allah, the more itll lead you to Tawheed.
قيومية = Allah is in charge of every creation, disposing their affairs.
We think that we are the ones in charge of our family, but it is limited. We are not in charge of their lives. We can't give them life and cause them deaths. We can't make their blood flow, etc. Allah is in charge of even the organs in our body.
When we are asleep, it is minor death. We are unaware of what is going on around us. Who is the true قيوم then?
We can't call anyone قيوم because no one is except Allah.
- The قيوميه of Allah in the Qur'an -
1) 28:76
Allah is mentioning the story of Qarun. He transgressed against the people of Musa.
The actions of Allah:
ءاتيناه
Allah had given him great treasures, such that the keys of the treasures were so big that strong men couldn't carry it. His people told him not to rejoice with ungratefulness, because Allah doesn't love those type of people.
Verse 77:
Actions of Allah:
اتاك
His people advised him to use whatever Allah had given him to seek the reward of the Aakhirah. And to not forget his portion for himself.
أحسن
And they advised him to do good as Allah has done good to Him. Allah gave Qarun money, and has done good to Qarun.
Verse 78:
The response of Qarun: After the people told him of Allah's actions on Him, He said, "إنما أوتيته على علم"
Notice how the same word is used.
It was said that Qarun had knowledge of turning metal into gold. This was knowledge Allah bestowed on Him. But he attributed the blessings to himself, not to Allah.
This is a serious matter.
His punishment - Verse 81:
Action of Allah: خسفنا
Allah made the earth swallow him, and there was no one to help him against Allah.
Verse 82:
When Qaruns people admonished him, he came out in front of his people with all his wealth and treasures. Those with weak knowledge envied his treasures and pleasures.
Look at what they said after Allah made the earth swallow him:
Actions of Allah:
يبسط
يقدر
Allah extends the provision to whomever He wills and constricts provision to whomever He wills. There are people whom Allah makes wealthy and others whom He makes poor. This is in Allah's hand.
لمن يشاء
This is according to His will. He knows whom to make rich, and whom to make poor. He knows when to give provision and when to withhold it because He is الحكيم. He puts everything in its right place, in the right amount. He knows what suits each and every person.
Allah knows money may destroy a person so He withholds it.
منًٌ
Allah favoured them by not making the earth swallow them with Qarun.
Verse 83:
Allah is informing us of a fact. He is exhorting his believing Slaves and inspiring them to aspire for the reward of the hereafter.
Actions of Allah:
نجعلها
The hereafter is for those who don't want haughtiness on earth. They don't want to be the first, the greatest, the highest, the known, among the people.
The Aakhirah is not for these people. It is for those who are humble and show humility. These are the winners on the Day of the Judgement. Not those who are proud, arrogant, tyrant.
Nor for people who create corruption on earth by committing mischief in the land.
والعاقبة للمتقين
Now, when you describe a wealthy person, what will you say? You'll say, "Allah has given him wealth, Allah has provided for him, etc"
We need to inculcate the actions of Allah in our speech. We need to attribute the blessings to Allah. This is having good manners with Allah.
2) 21:78-79
Allah is telling us about an event that happened with Dawud and Sulayman. They judged concerning a field. It was said that one man had a flock of sheep and another man had a farm. One night, the sheep ran to the farm and destroyed the crops. In the morning these men went to Dawud and Sulayman to judge between them. Dawud said to let the owner of the farm take all the sheep. Sulayman said to let the owner of the sheep give his sheep to the owner of the farm and benefit from it until he reforms his field again.
And Allah was a witness over their judgement.
Verse 79:
Actions of Allah:
فهمناها - Allah made Sulayman understand the situation
ءاتينا - Allah gave them both judgement and knowledge.
سخرنا - And Allah subjected the mountains and birds to glorify with Dawud.
Whenever you understand something, what will you say? "Allah made me understand" Instead of, "I understood'
We need to attribute these blessings to Allah. It's not due to our intelligence, experience, or our knowledge of the people, etc.
Verse 80:
Actions of Allah:
علمناه = Allah taught Dawud to make armor in order to protect ourselves from our enemy.
فهل أنتم شاكرون?
Relation between the beginning and end of this verse: Allah is the one who taught me, and I need to be grateful to Him for teaching us.
Allah is the One teaching us. We praise the teacher and forget to thank and praise Allah for the knowledge. Allah is the One who taught the teacher to teach you. It is Allah who teaches us.
Allah mentioned His action of teaching in many verses. Ex. Surah Baqarah (2:31-32)
لا علم لنا الا ما علمتنا
(2:282)
Allah will not give the knowledge of the religion to everyone. He will teach those who are truthful and sincere.
Never attribute this action to other than allah. Don't over praise teachers and wish to have a position in her heart, Allah is the one teaching us.
Don't let your heart be attached to the teachers. Let your heart be attached to Allah and he will teach you more and more. Every time you understand something, thank and praise Allah.
3) 28:
The beginning of this chapter is about the story of Musa with Firaun.
In verse 4, allah mentions five actions of Firaun:
a) علا
b) Divided the people into sects
c) oppressed the people
d) killed the boys
e) and let the women live.
Both Qarun and Firaun sought haughtiness in the land.
In verses 5-6, Allah tells us 5 of His actions:
a) نمن = Allah willed to bestow favour those who were oppressed.
b) نجعلهم leaders
c) نجعلهم الوارثين
d) Allah wanted to give them power and authority in land
e) And to show Firaun and Hamaan what they feared. Allah wanted to show Firaun that His will overpowered Firauns will. والله غالب على امره
If you read this story in Surah Qasas, you will see how Allah's will overpowered Firauns. He gave authority to Musa and Bani Israeel, and drowned Firaun. Notice the actions of Allah.
When you attribute all the blessings to Allah you will rely on Him in all your affairs, because you know Allah is قيوم over you. You will not worry, fear, etc. In this way your Eeman will increase.
4) 21:9-11
Actions of Allah:
فانجيناهم - Allah rescued the Prophets and their followers
أهلكناهم - He destroyed the wrongdoers
قصمنا - How many of a town did Allah destroy due to their wrongdoing
أنشأنا - Allah brought out a new generation
Whenever you see a town completely destroyed in the news, know it is the action of Allah. He destroyed that town and He did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves.
Attribute the correct actions to Allah, the ones mentioned in the Qur'an.
This should be our manners with Allah.
