Sunday 6 - (9/11/14)

The place of Eeman is in our hearts, therefore we need to take care and purify our hearts.

Ibn AlQayyim mentioned that the hearts are of three types:

1) The heart which is void of Eeman.
This is a dark heart. The Shaytan doesn't need to whisper evil in it, he is already dwelling in that heart.

2) The heart which is illuminated by the light of Eeman but there still resides darknesses of desire and disobedience.
Shaytan sometimes enters that heart and sometimes retreats. The fight between Shaytan and that heart is continuous. Sometimes the Shaytan is victorious and other times he is defeated.

3) The heart which is filled with Eeman.
There is no space for the Shaytan or sin in that heart. The veil of desire and sins have been lifted from it. The Shaytan cannot approach this heart at all, it is protected by its Eeman.
This heart is like the sky, protected from the Shayateen from stealing information. As soon as the Shayateen goes close to the sky shooting stars come and attack them. The believers heart is protected more and is even more precious to Allah than this sky because it is the place of Tawheed, of love of Allah, Eeman, Islam, etc.

The house of a king is full of precious treasures.
The house of the commoner has valuable items but not as precious as the Kings palace.
The house of a poor person has no valuable items.
If a thief wants to steal where will he go? He won't go to the King's house because it's protected, He won't go to the house of the poor because there's nothing to steal. He will go to the heart of the commoner which has some valuable items and is sometimes protected and sometimes not.
This is the example of our hearts.

A Jew went to Ibn Abbas and said, "Why don't we have waswaas in our prayers like you do?" Ibn Abbas said, "What does Shaytan need to do with a heart that is already destroyed?"

The Shaytan used to run away from Umar because of the Eeman he had.

The Shaytan uses his وسواس to overpower the people and this is one of the most serious and prevalent sicknesses.

The solution to وسواس:

1) You first teach the person that what they are suffering from is وسواس. Many people don't know that what they are suffering comes from the Shaytan.

2) You have to be gentle with that person and refrain from reproaching him.
Whoever is overpowered by the Shaytan is sensitive. A slight rebuke or reproach will cause them to feel lonely and misunderstood. This is the second stage, He will fall into depression. If it's not cured immediately it will become worse.

3) Repeat. They are looking for peace, so advise them little by little until you help the person overcome that stage in that life.

The وسواس starts as an idea that disturbs you.
You have to be patient with such people because if you don't help them they will stray far away from the right path.

The whisper usually comes when you want to sleep and as soon as you awaken. You think of one particular thing or person. If you do not repel this immediately it will continue.

Side-Solutions:
1) Reciting the Qur'an with understanding
2) Accompanying righteous people

Solution:
You need to study and understand the names of Allah mentioned in Surah Al Falaq and An Nas.

The difference between the two Surahs:
-> Surah Al Falaq is seeking protection from every evil Allah created and the darkness of the night, because the evil accompanies the evil of the night.
-> Surah An Nas is seeking protection from one internal evil which is وسواس.

There are three names of Allah mentioned in Surah an-Nas:

الرب
الملك
اله

Allah started the Qur'an with these three names and ended it with these three names. These names are very important in our lives.

In (23:116):

فتعالى الله الملك الحق لا إله إلا هو رب العرش الكريم

In (39:6):

There is a reason Allah joins these three names together.

We need to know the attributes of the One we are seeking refuge in and what we are running away from in order that our استعاذه becomes strong.

الرب

الرب is the most comprehensive name of Allah. All the other names of Allah are included in this name. It is mentioned around 500 times in the Qur'an..

الرب is the one who created everything in the heavens and the earth, who sustains His creation with all provision and provides them with all what they need to exist in life. He protects them, guides them, nurtures them according to His knowledge and wisdom. He up brings us up from a deficient state to a perfect state.

الرب is the One relieving our distress, responding to our prayers, rescuing the needy, removing our afflictions. This should bring about love in your heart for Allah.

The special nurturing of Allah is only for the believers. If you go to the one who is affected by وسواس tell them that Allah is nurturing them specially and that the calamity is a blessing from him. Remind them of how they were in a deficient state and how Allah granted them blessings in order that they love and trust Him more.

One impact of the special nurturing of Allah is that he guides the person to يسرا. He guides him to understand and explain the situation he is going through. Allah is the one enlightening him through the means.
He also removes obstacles that come between the person and guidance. It could be in the form of removing a bad influence in your life, etc.

Musa was afraid, but he became strong when he knew who Allah, his الرب is.
وقال موسى إني عذت بربي وربكم

You need to think good of Allah when you say أعوذ بالله. Be sure that Allah hears you and will respond to you. Don't think Allah will let you down, because then you are thinking bad of Allah.
Allah will be for you as you think of Him.

الملك

Our الرب is ملك. Whenever الرب is mentioned without ملك then the meaning of ملك is implied within الرب. But when ملك is mentioned alongside الرب every name takes its particular meaning.

If Allah is ملك then everything other then Allah are slaves to Him. What is the correct relation between the King and theSslave? The slave needs to know the attributes of His King. If he doesn't know His King very will not feel at rest, He won't know how to please Him.

To Him belongs the perfect might, ability, power, strength. He is عزيز، قادر، القدير، المقتدرين، قوي، الجبار.
Our mind cannot encompass how perfect Allah's might and ability is. But he showed us some of the impacts of His ability.

By Allah's ability:

1) He created the heavens and earth in 6 days.
2) He created everything in the heavens and earth
3) He gave different forms to his creation
4) He perfected the creation
5) He sustains every creature
6) He gives life and causes death
7) He turns the hearts
8) He will resurrect everything on the Day of Judgement
9) If He wills something He says be and it is
10) All the creation are subdued by Him

Our King is العزيز. If He commands something whether it is a universal decree or legal command it is executed.

Nobody can repel the command of Allah or run away from His dominion. All of creation is under his power.

Your Lord is the King. He is able, powerful and strong. No one can harm you when you are under Allah's protection. The believer is strong because of this.

Our Lord,is الملك, الرؤف الرحيم. He is the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. He will never forsake you if you run to him. He will take you under his mercy. Remind yourself of this. You have no one except Allah, and He is الرحمن ، الرحيم. In this way you will comfort the heart of the person who is afraid.

If a dear, trustworthy friend comes to you and tells you not to worry because she will provide you with food, transport, money, etc for the entire week you will sleep peacefully at night. And Allah tells us throughout the Qur'an that He is the one relieving our distresses, the King, our Rabb.

Our problem is that we don't know who Allah is.
When you say ملك الناس bring into your mind His perfect ability, might, compassion and mercy.

الملك ordered us to say أعوذ برب الناس and He will help you.

There is a wisdom behind the creation of the Shaytan and His evil whispers.
If there was no Shaytan there would be no act of worship called Istiaadhah. You would never say أعوذ بالله.
When the believer feels any whisper of the Shaytan coming he should run to his Lord, His ملك.
If your ملك is the protector the Shaytan will not dare to come close to you.

اله الناس

After knowing that Allah is الرب it will bring love to your heart. الملك will fill your heart with veneration of Allah.
When you love and magnify Allah you will worship Allah. This is why the names came in this sequence.
If you come close to Allah walking, He will come to you running.

Why is الناس added to each name?
It is added to الرب because He is their creator, nurturer.
It is added to الملك because their ملك is disposing their affairs, commanding them, they are all in His grip.
It is added to اله because after Allah created them, commands them, they should worship Him

Another reason is that this is an honour for mankind. Allah created man, Jinn, Angels, animals. But the most honoured creation of Allah are humans.
You are honoured, so how will you seek refuge and be disgraced by Allah?!

If the heart of the slave is occupied with pondering over the meanings of the names of Allah then the Shaytan will find no way to whisper in that heart.
The slave who loves His Lord and seeks refuge in Him will surely be supported against His enemy.

A magician whom Allah guided to repent narrated a story. He once had a magic show where he stabbed himself with knives and didn't get hurt. While he was doing that a young man entered the room and recited  آيات الكرسي. As he finished, the knives actually began to stab the magician. He was rushed to hospital, went through many surgeries, and survived. The Jinn visited him while he was in the hospital and he angrily asked them why they left him after they had made a covenant to serve him. They told him about the young man who recited  آيات الكرسي and promised to bring that man to the magician. The Jinn kept delaying the bringing of this young man. 6 months passed and they gave up because they couldn't overpower him. They tried to do magic on his clothes but were unable to because he would always recite  آيات الكرسي .
